All these low empathy bitches and then just Will Graham with so much empathy he's vibrating
(not mine, belongs to original poster)
Another analyzing post, this one is something I just recently noticed. In season 1 where Will's encephalitis started getting worse, there have been animal statues and a painting in the background that fit a bit too well to the situation.
The first feature I've noticed was the horse painting in Dr. Sutcliffe's office.
It almost perfectly applies to Will, according to the research I have done about the symbolism behind it. A white horse can be associated with purity or good fortune, in addition with the blood that explains, in Will's case, the symptoms of his encephalitis he has to go through to be able to fully embrace his true nature.
Then there is this black elephant statue, right next to Dr. Sutcliffe, which is not very easy to see but that is probably also the intention of it.
It refers to, again, Will's encephalitis but more in the sense of a major problem that is almost to everyone somehow obvious but is being ignored or not taken seriously. For example by Jack.
Dr. Sutcliffe finds it out pretty quickly. But again with "the elephant in the room" he shows Will that it is nothing neurologically wrong with him.
The last statue, a turtle that was in Hannibal's office, kind of hidden behind Jack.
It doesn't match too well with Jacks personality, but a point that refers to him would be the hard shell representing protection and symbolizing the ability to withstand challenges.
This is somewhat of a color theory post for the trial scenes in season 2. It is also just a theory I kind of made sense out of in my head.
No idea if someone already did something similar but if so then it is more of a reminder or new information for people who just started watching Hannibal.
So in the scenes from the trial the color scheme was rather neutral and everyone, not including Hannibal and partially Jack, was wearing simple or boring colors (brown, dark gray, black, beige, etc.). Nothing extravagant. Hannibal was kind of standing out from the audience with his gray/red suit, the detailed tie and the white shirt.
In the first trial scene, where "Will's" murders were shown and described, a woman is in the audience with a red cardigan sitting behind Will, which could prove that the color has a different meaning for Will than for Hannibal.
For Hannibal the color represents mostly power, leadership. For Will it may represent anger and violence. But both of them likely associate it with blood, considering the circumstances.
The woman was only shown when Garrett Jacob Hobbs and Abigail Hobbs were mentioned and when Will was described as having remarkable visual memory and being the smartest person in the room. That description probably made him feel analyzed, which obviously he doesn't like.
When Jack and Freddie Lounds held their testimony, the judge was wearing the same red tie, which could mean that they are relatively on the same level of importance in Hannibal's eyes.
(Both weren't killed by Hannibal, even though they were both attacted).
In Frederick Chilton's case the judge wore a different tie.
Not much of a difference but this tie is almost completely red, comparing the other one which is about half red half silver/white. Meaning that Chilton does not have much of an important role for Hannibal or rather only uses Chilton for his own purposes, similar to Alana. During these three testimonys, none of the witnesses wore red.
When Hannibal was holding his testimony, he was the one wearing a red tie while the judge was wearing a brown/beige striped tie.
That could indicate that, metaphorically, Hannibal feels like he has more power over the judge and can make the same decisions as if he is the judge and the judge the witness.
Hannibal's testimony was more or less useless for the judge, which made Hannibal feel disrespected and had no other choice but to kill the judge to get Will out of the BSHCI.
