Welcome to Archery Class. In Archery class, there are three types of students; ones that hit the bullseye, ones that miss completely, and those that somehow end up with arrows protruding from their bodies. In this course you will be learning about the ancient sport and how to use it effectively. Be warned, if you misbehave, I have good aim. Applications may be found at: /apps

Why do you wish to switch classes?: Before entering Bansin I was part of a specialized agency, which focused primarily on people which special powers— like ourselves (demigods). I’ve been taken in by this agency due my ability to manipulate and use pure electricity and use it to my will—Which in most cases ends up with me forming a bow and arrow as my weapon of choice. I’ve had intensive training in archery because of this.

Before I started manipulating a bow and arrow, I was a part of the archery club at my old boarding school, so I know how to handle traditional gear as well.

What is your current grade?: A+

Wondering how to check your grades?

Well, here's your answer! Professor Way has been using an online grading system called Engrade. If you do not wish to make your own account to view your grades, that's okay! You can use the communal account for the entire class. Just follow these simple instructions.

Note to Muns;

It has come to my attention that this skills test games iS RIDICULOUSLY FUCKING HARD OMG.

So just play to the best to your ability and have fun with it. I'll probably just take whatever score you send in that you got (remember to screenshot it and submit to the class page!) and add like 5 points to it. No worries.

So say I got a 53/60, I'll add five to that so it'll be, 58/60. Unless you want to make it so that your character seems to be dropping in skills, then let me know what score you want for your muse.

Lesson #2: Stance/Shooting + Assignments

Lesson is for normal class only. Assignments below for ALL class levels.

Textbook Used

To learn about the proper stance, check your textbooks. There are a few basic things to remember when taking your stance before a target.

The Shooting Line

This is the white line that you see drawn before the targets. You will straddle this line with your feet shoulder-width apart. Make sure your feet are parallel to the shooting line, as well. This is called the square stance. Keep your hips straight as well, in line with the target. You must straighten up your posture, but not too much as your chest will curve out, rather so that your spine will be vertically in line. If you are shooting with a right hand bow (you pull the string with your right hand), make sure your left foot is the one closest to the target. And vice versa.

Shooting 

There are four steps to remember to this process;

Straddle - You have taken the correct shooting position.

Nock - Nocking the arrow means to place the arrow on the part of the string called the nock. This keeps the arrow in place before it is shot. When you hear a clicking sound, this means the arrow has been nocked. The arrow should then be resting on the arrow rest.

Set - Keep your arm parallel to the ground. Make sure your bow is vertical as to make sure your arm is not rolled outwards, this may result in your string snapping your forearm. Make sure your lower back is flat and your chest is not curved out towards the bow. Your arrow must be held between your first and second knuckles and you must used three fingers to shoot.

Draw/Load - Pull the string back, but to your/its limit. You don't want to snap the string. Remember to check that your arm and posture are good. To keep the arrow at bay, use your index finger on the hand holding the bow to keep the arrow in place.

Anchor - Your thumb should be up against your cheek while your index finger is at the crook of your mouth. 

Aim - Using your dominant eye, line up the arrow tip with the target. Want to know which eye is your dominant eye? Make a triangle with your thumbs and index fingers. Place an item in the distance in the center, like a clock or a picture. Now close your right eye, then your left. With which eye did it move the least? That is your dominant eye.

*Note that there is a small percentage of people who are ambidextrous with their eyes.

Release - Take a breath in, hold it, and let the string go. Remember to make sure that your hips are in line with the target and that they have not turned.

Follow through - Hold your release position for 3 seconds before moving. If you move right after releasing, you may mess up the arrow's path and move it off course. 

Assignment - Due Whenever

AP CLASS: You already know the basics so... tada. You have a skills test. Go to the class page and follow this route.

Class info > Class materials > Game: Bullseye > Enter your name > Start Game > Baltic Seas Tournament

Play the first four rounds (6 arrows) Then submit your score to the class page. It should be xx out of 60 points.

Honors Class: Laughs there's no one in this class yet. BUT. You will also be doing the skills test. However, you will only shoot the first three arrows which are shot at 30m. I expect 9s and 10s. 

Normal Class: You may play any of the games on the class materials page. Just send in a screen cap to show that you did so along with your score to show that you at least tried to practice. I will also be assigning you into groups for a project coming up soon.

Lesson #1: Knowing Your Weaponry + Assignment

For ALL classes (including Honors/AP)

Before you are able to even step foot onto an archery range, you must first know your equipment and what it does. In this class, we will be providing you with the basic equipment you need to start;

A bow: You will receive a basic compound bow for learning and practicing purposes. Compound bows usually shoot further than recurve bows, and compounds shoot more in a straight manner, making it easier to hit your mark. The recurve bow is lighter but requires more form and arch after release to hit the target. Compounds are also heavier and take more force to draw and may feel mechanical at times when drawing them. If you would rather have a compound bow, you are free to trade it out for one.

Arm guards: Arm guards help to protect the archer's arm after the arrow and bowstring are released. This way if the bowstring ever comes in contact with your arm, it won't hurt. Though after a few practices, you should at least be able to shoot without the bowstring hitting your arm; that usually messes up how your arrow flies. We will provide you with one leather armguard. 

Finger tabs: Finger tabs are used to protect your fingers when the arrow is released. You will be receive a set of finger tabs. 

Arrows: Though you will not get "personal" arrows per say, but arrows will always be available at the range. Try to pick out arrows that do not have damaged fletches. If they are missing parts of their fletches, please break them and toss them. They are not useable. In the normal class, you will get arrows with blunt safety tips, while honors and AP will work with sharp tips. 

As always, the targets will be up at all times at the range and switched out when they have accumulated too many holes. Read or look over your textbook page quickly and know your weaponry well. It will be on an upcoming test.

Assignment: Due Whenever

Since you now have your weaponry, looking at the diagram of the bow below, name the parts of the bow. You may label a text post from #1-8 then name them. Please tag the post, baa:homework.
