A very good way to add a quick boost of health to a meal is to include anything that smells n tastes herbal, floral, pungent… coriander, onions, garlic, rosemary, basil, chillies, cumin, turmeric etc etc etc…. They add a whack of polyphenols and flavanoids and antioxidants and immediately improve the health profile of your food. So like, instead of a plain grilled cheese (inflammatory, low nutrition), add basil and finely sliced shallots to that mf! Rub spices all over your chicken! Make a raw sauce with green herbs, olive oil, garlic and use with everything! Coriander and green chillies and spring onion in your slaw! Herbs and spices are cheap n fast n taste incredible n protect your body with crucial plant based nutrition.. what more could you want 🌱

Coconut/Cane & Cutlass is a fluid rumination on the psyche, collective memory, history and imagination of Indo-Caribbean cultural identity. This poetic rumination on exile and displacement is mediated from the perspective of the filmmaker, a mixed race Indo-Caribbean lesbian who migrated to Canada over thirty years ago.

“Coconut/Cane & Cutlass metaphorically speaks about the enclosure and denial of queer sexuality in the Caribbean through a multiple layered front screen projected image of two women vertically posed in an intimate moment, framed behind the barbed wire – conjuring the censored queer body and antiquated buggery laws in the Caribbean against expressions of queer sexuality. It became this far greater political commentary than simply being this personal film. I also utilized the paired image of two women to take the viewer on a historical journey which began with the voyage from India across the Kala Pani (black water) to the Caribbean. These dual images of mother-daughter, lovers, sisters, they could be anything, the representation of these two women was symbolic of the fluid journeying motif in the film.” — Mohabeer, 2015 [x]

I love aging, and I think one of the worst lies patriarchy tells women is that aging makes us irrelevant and worthless, that aging is something to be ashamed of. As with everything in patriarchy this lie has a malicious intention, and it runs like a straight line through patriarchy’s stories of wicked witches and scary crones. Aging women, older women are stronger women, more independent women, women who’ve lost their insecurities and who do not live to please, and there’s no bigger threat to the system of male dominance and female subordination. Of course women need to be taught to worship youth and of course older women need to be hidden away under notions of them being irrelevant and pathetic or strange, because otherwise women would be much more difficult to control, and older women would take over the world. The strength women unfold within themselves when they get older is unyielding; it stands tall as a tree and has deep, deep roots. Men have much to loose in women realizing this. Women have everything to gain.
