@babeimnotsorry
they could never make me hate you, madara
i want to make new hashimada fic rec list so badly😔
“We're grown men. Shinobi.” Madara said, and there was truly no anger in his voice. Only a light, almost sad surprise. “And you’re giving me… flowers.”
Hashirama lowered his gaze even further, to the moss, to his own knees.
“They... reminded me of you.”
this damn fic put me through absolute emotional hell. it completely wrecked me, even though it had a happy ending
the flower language in hashimada’s relationship is absolute peak. damn, i love this fic so much i’m gonna reread it like a hundred times
and the title… god, i didn’t even realize the author would tie it in like that at the end. it’s a masterpiece i have nothing to say
madara’s duality is my favourite thing ever
you have this absolute beast, a legendary shinobi who single-handedly wrecked the five kage and started a war just because he’s that guy. he’s cold, hot, ambitious, and looks down on everyone
…but on the other hand, the moment hashirama shows up, madara flips into full hashirama-senpai~ mode. hashirama really won at life by having someone THAT devoted to him
to madara, nobody else even exists. like that one iconic line from the naruto game: 'you still can’t touch me, you’re not hashirama.' the man's standards are literally just are you senju hashirama? no? then MOVE
creating a character this insanely powerful — both mentally and physically — only to make them so hyper-fixated on one single person (excluding his love for izuna, ofc) is ABSOLUTE PEAK
okay, i officially couldn’t help myself and read that ongoing hashimada fic
i hate unfinished works. but then i saw that this fic gets updated pretty often, so I just decided to go for it and read it. damn, i don’t even know what to say
this fic is absolutely destroying me: the symbolism (it’s literally in the title and everywhere in the text. it’s not just a story; it’s poetry), the psychology (the author literally dissected them. hashirama is torn between his duty and his own feelings, while madara feels as though he no longer has a place in this world… the internal monologues are heavy), mutual pining&angst (the way depression is portrayed here is just haunting... hashirama and madara experience it in such completely different ways. they are both aching for each other, but the way their suffering manifests is worlds apart. i honestly can’t handle this)
this is so emotionally charged that i’m just staring at the wall now. it’s a masterpiece of mutual pining, angst and feelings realization. please send help
…the title "Where Wood Remembers Fire"... i am absolutely obsessed. it’s so fitting, so tragic, and so beautiful. would let it break my heart again and again
madara caught hashirama before he fell
…and went down himself instead
that’s all for today guys
Your analysis of Madara and hashirama is fun to read !! I was just wondering if you would consider writing a fic ? 💗
thank you very much!
i would love to, but english isn’t my first language and i don't think it's possible...
I LOVE YOUR BLOG SO MUCH
Just wanted to say it!!!
<3 <3 <3
oh. my. god.
thank you very very very much! your words are so precious to me ❤️
your posts inspired me to make a playlist of muse's most mashimada-coded songs and im having so much fun mwehehe
(its most of their discography xd)
to be honest, i'm not that familiar with muse’s discography, so i’ll definitely be looking forward to your post to see the vision
that sounds so interesting!
every time i listen to hysteria by muse, i can't help but think of hashimada
why? because it's not just a song about simple love; it's an anthem of obsession bordering on madness
the entire instrumental is such a perfect fit for them. that heavy, distorted bassline and the relentless, chaotic energy of the song capture the frantic, soul-consuming tension of their bond—it's the sound of two lives spiraling into each other, a collision they can neither survive nor escape
the line “i want it now / give me your heart and your soul” is so madara-coded. it's not a plea—it's a violent demand to possess hashirama's very essence, even if it brings the world to its knees (the fact that he literally bit off a piece of hashirama's flesh… that is the definition of hysteria)
it's literally the soundtrack for two people who are obsessed with each other, unable to be together, yet incapable of letting go
tiktok reminded me that some people still think madara is a sexist and it’s honestly so... weird? like, our only "proof" is that one single moment in the manga where he calls tsunade a "weak woman"
madara doesn't hate women — he just despises weakness. to him, most people (men and women alike) are just background noise or kids playing war. his internal ranking system is binary: you’re either "worthy of a dance" (like hashirama or might guy) or you’re just dust under his feet
when he insults tsunade, he’s just picking the easiest, most obvious jab to bruise her ego. it’s typical mid-battle trash talk, not a life philosophy. he had a massive personal trigger regarding hashirama: tsunade isn’t just a kunoichi to him, she’s the granddaughter of "that guy." his words were just a way of saying: "your grandad was hotter and stronger, and you’re just a pale shadow." it pissed him off that the descendant of the god of shinobi wasn't as powerful as the man himself. if she weren't a senju, he wouldn't have even bothered to pay her that much attention
once tsunade proved her strength and smashed through his susanoo, he acknowledged her power. he even compared her to the raikage (a man!) and admitted she was actually stronger than him, even if she was slower
the perfect contrast is mei
she’s a woman, she’s a kage, but she’s not a senju. madara has zero beef with her and never once mentions her gender. instead, he objectively admitted her techniques were impressive
madara judges everyone on the same scale — their power level and their will:
hashirama: the unreachable ideal. the only one who actually makes his heart race
might guy: "i, madara, declare you the strongest!" he recognized a man with no special genes as a god of taijutsu
sasuke: appreciated his eyes (choku-tomoe)
naruto: didn’t take him seriously at first, but later recognized him as a worthy opponent
tsunade: clowned her for "weak genes" at first, but the second she broke his defense, he acknowledged her strength
mei: recognized her abilities as effective without any extra comments
onoki: despite mocking his age, madara acknowledged his "unwavering will"
madara's ultimate goal (infinite tsukuyomi) was literally about saving all of humanity. there’s no room for discrimination in his utopia — everyone is supposed to be happy in an eternal dream. his ideology isn't built on gender supremacy; it's built on the idea that the world is broken and he’s the only one who can fix it
madara isn’t a sexist. he’s just an arrogant man with his own system of values (power) and hashirama-sexual who constantly compares everyone to his one true rival. if you are "weak" in his eyes — you’re gonna hear about why you’re pathetic, regardless of your gender
so true
…i’m still not over the fact that hashirama and madara are literally romeo and juliet…
first meeting at the ball? they had the riverbank. a place where they weren’t senju and uchiha, just two kids skipping stones
feuding families? the montagues and capulets are literally toddlers compared to the years of bloodshed between the senju and uchiha
the balcony scene? instead of a balcony, they had that cliff overlooking the future konoha where they planned their "happily ever after"
shakespeare made his characters die in less than a week. kishimoto was like: “too easy. let’s make them build the embodiment of their dream, lose their understanding of each other, have madara go into exile, return with a demon fox, die, get resurrected many decades later just to lose and die again..”
that’s it. curtain call. shakespeare is crying in the corner because at least romeo and juliet didn’t wait a hundred years just to say: “we’re still on the same side.”
this isn't just a tragedy, it's Tragedy with a capital T. and i can’t believe that kishimoto created such a canonical story about “star-crossed lovers” by accident
but you know what?
shakespeare’s couple fell in love in 0.5 seconds and died before they even knew each other’s favorite color, but hashirama and madara spent an entire century building a world and destroying each other just to realize they were each other’s only home
…the gold standard of slow burn…
madara uchiha’s love language is literally just “choose me over everything else no matter the cost.” he’s the type of partner to ask at 3 am: “would you still love me if i were a worm?” but like, with a straight face and a susanoo
let’s break it down
worst first date in history
when hashirama offers a truce, madara is like: kill yourself or your brother. he literally invented the most unhinged compatibility test ever… and it’s the only time he actually won. hashirama chose to end it all and told everyone not to touch madara after he's gone, proving their bond was worth more than his own life. madara saw that proof and finally agreed to the whole “konoha project”
hokage? nah, democracy
hashirama promises him the entire world and then goes “oh wait sorry my little brother said i’m not allowed to.” for madara, this wasn't just about a job title, it was hashirama choosing tobirama and the system over a personal promise. the first red flag that madara was just standing in a very long line behind the village
who is your real brother?
that one panel that still makes my heart ache. madara is leaving and asks: “you call me brother, but who would you actually kill—tobirama or me?”
this is peak “if we’re both drowning who are you saving first?” drama. since he didn’t get a straight answer, madara realized he would never be as important as blood ties and ideology
death by that one
valley of the end. hashirama says he’ll kill anyone to protect the village
hashirama: “you’re a gift from divine!”
also hashirama: stabs him in the back
it’s the final choice in madara’s head. village > madara
madara made hashirama his whole universe, but hashirama made madara just another threat to the status quo
madara spent his entire life asking the same question in different fonts: “am i your number one?”
but let’s be real: even dying for the second time, he just wanted to hear: “you were right, the village wasn’t worth it, you’re the most special one to me. let's go drink some sake!”
the fact that we have the powerful shinobi being so desperate for validation that he literally grew his ex’s face on his chest just to have him close… if that isn’t the ultimate “i’m still not over us,” i don’t know what is. he took the phrase “you’ll always be in my heart” and turned it into a terrifying reality
i really love the theory that madara and hashirama were the ultimate case of unrequited love. like, if you actually look at the canon, it’s not even a rivalry, it’s just one man making another his entire universe while the other person had a whole world to care about. let’s talk about it
I. childhood: awakening the sharingan
everyone knows that for madara, growing up in an era of constant death, hashirama became the first and only bright spot (except for izuna, obviously)
canonically, the sharingan awakens from intense emotional trauma. madara awakens his when his friendship with hashirama — the only person who understood him from their very first meeting — is officially declared impossible because of their last names
this is the first moment of his "broken heart." madara trusted hashirama with his vulnerability, and from that moment on, his psyche was locked onto this man
ll. the founding of konoha: the attempt to be number one
despite the massive pain of losing his brother, madara gave himself a chance to live "normally" and trust hashirama to fulfill their shared childhood dream
when konoha was built, madara hoped that he and hashirama would rule side by side, just as they had dreamed as kids. madara only recognized hashirama; after izuna's death, he became the only person close to him, his only priority. but hashirama still had tobirama and the entire village
when hashirama became hokage and started listening to tobirama and the villagers, madara realized he was just "one of many" in hashirama’s heart. hashirama loved the village more than his friend, and that was the beginning of the end
lll. leaving and loneliness: the life of a ghost obsessed with the past
madara gave up on having a personal life. while hashirama starts a family with mito, madara chooses to stay alone. he has no wife, no followers. all his connections are purely functional (like with obito later). he literally "preserved" himself in his feelings for hashirama because he realized he would never feel anything like that for anyone else again
when madara decides to leave konoha, a crucial dialogue happens. as he’s leaving, he tells hashirama directly: “only you can stop me.” this isn't just a threat. it’s a confession of deep intimacy. madara is literally saying: “neither the uchiha clan, nor the village, nor the whole world means anything to me. you are the only one whose opinion and whose power have any influence over me.”
his entire life in the cave was just studying hashirama's cells and having a never-ending internal dialogue with him. for him, there was no world where hashirama wasn't the center of the system
lV. the fourth shinobi world war: the peak of obsession
madara humiliates the five kage, saying they are nothing compared to hashirama (poor tsunade...). he literally "advertises" hashirama, basically saying, “listen, look how great he is, only he is worthy of me.”
decades after his death, madara acts like a man who came to a date, not a war
until hashirama showed up, madara fought the shinobi alliance with the face of someone doing boring homework. but as soon as he felt that chakra, he literally bloomed. his line “i've been waiting for you, hashirama!”is the peak of his multi-year fixation on one person
while stabbing sasuke with a sword, madara repeats from memory the exact words hashirama said to him before his "death": “i won't forgive anyone who threatens the village, be they a friend, sibling or even my own child” this confirms madara’s obsession — he literally kept hashirama’s words in his head for decades!
V. the infinite tsukuyomi: an attempt to prove a point or "notice me, hashirama!"
madara wanted to create a world without pain and sacrifice, where no one would have to feel what he felt. but on a deep psychological level, it was an attempt to prove to hashirama: “your village failed, my way is better.” it was a cry from a man who wanted the only person who mattered to finally admit he was right
when madara finds out he was deceived, his world crumbles. but he doesn't waste his last breaths cursing zetsu or kaguya. his final thoughts and words are addressed to hashirama. in anime he asks: "hashirama, where did i go wrong?" it’s not a question to fate; it’s a question to the only person whose approval he ever needed. even as he dies, he continues this dialogue that started at the river decades ago
as he dies, madara feels hashirama’s presence — the only person in the world who matters to him. madara admits defeat. he looks calm but deeply sad. he talks about his dreams "crumbing." hashirama calls him "comrade." until the very end, hashirama saw him as a "partner in a dream." madara, however, saw hashirama as the only reason that dream even made sense
the tragedy of madara is that he is an uchiha. for this clan, love is obsession, madness, and sacrifice. his biology forced him to feel an intensity of feelings for hashirama that the latter physically could not feel in return. for hashirama, it was a strong friendship, but for madara, it was an obsession
madara was ready to burn the world for hashirama
hashirama was able to stab madara in the back with a sword for the sake of peace
madara would never have done it first. he always chose hashirama. hashirama always chose the idea
madara uchiha is the greatest example of how you can be the strongest person in the world but remain absolutely powerless before someone who is just a "good guy."
of course, hashirama loved madara, but he loved him the same way he loved tobirama, konoha, and the world
the tragedy of madara is that he wanted to be exceptional to hashirama, but became only a part of his great legacy
