A/n: This took way too goddamn long to finish. Nothing was right when I wrote it and I got frustrated every time and just left it alone. Sorry yet again for the slow update. âč
Part one Part two Part four
After confessing to Grayson in the middle of a bathroom what you barely grasped yourself, life went on. Life went on in a way where no matter how much Grayson tried, whenever he looked at you, he got this far away look in his eyes. A look you knew was one filled with self-doubt, his thoughts overtaking his being, making him think of the absolute worse. A look that he cornered you with two days later, practically forcing you to tell Ethan.
Telling Ethan seemed almost more heartbreaking than it was when Grayson found out. Ethan the ever-present Twin with the wall around himself. The shyer twin despite his protests. The one who felt so much but hid it so well. But it was like when you uttered those dreaded words, the damn holding Ethan Grant Dolanâs emotions shattered, and a tidal wave of heartbreak threatened to drown you.
To you, the ever-present rock that was Ethan was crumbling and you didnât know how you would be able to live with yourself. Didnât know how you were going to be able to go on living knowing that you were putting the two most important people in your life through pain. And you were. You knew you were, could see it in their too stiff limbs. Could see it in the way their smiles didnât quite reach their eyes. Could see it in the way that even when they were filming for their fans, they were stilted. Almost like their heart couldnât be all the way in it because of what you were causing them. And that was almost enough to get you to reconsider. They loved more than anything what they were doing. Loved creating content for their fans, loved being absolute dumbasses for a living. And you were causing their career harm. But although there were many times you wished you could change your mind you never did. You held strong, held tight to your decision to continue for however long you had, to live your life one cough at a time. One cursed petal at a time. And for a while, that seemed to work. For two months, life went on.Â
You continued to go about your life, creating content for your own fans, albeit a little slow on the updates, but there, nonetheless. Continued to coexist with the crazy Dolan twins. Continued to go on about your existence like you werenât one day going to go out in ablaze of vines wrapped around your lungs. The coughing wasnât as common as it was in the beginning. You figured out early on that the trigger was stressful situations. That any type of confrontation of what you were dealing with, would send petals tumbling from your lips like a tidal wave. Ethan and Grayson both realizing that the more stress you were under, the shorter your life span. Both boys made it their sole purpose to ensure you werenât too stressed. Going out of their ways to make sure you didnât have to worry too hard about anything.Â
Even if it meant putting themselves under more stress. If it meant more time with you on this earth with them, theyâd carry the literal world on their shoulders to do so. Each caring gesture from them was like another knife being jammed into your sternum. With every smile that didnât reach their eyes, with every laugh that trailed, off your heart broke even more. There truly was nothing you could have done to make them happy again.
You thought just being there would be enough, but you knew it wasnât. You knew they were burning the end of the candle. Knew it in the way Grayson touched you in a way that made you feel so fragile. Made you feel like fine china. When you were anything but. You were strong. Stronger than anyone could ever think.Â
Just when you thought everything was going to be reluctantly okay, another mountain was put in front of you. Except this mountain went by the name Ethan Grant Dolan.Â
If it were completely up to you, you would have gone the entire time you were still allowed to walk this earth, without telling a single soul about the one causing you to die. Would have taken it to your literal grave. Took the secret you kept so close to your heart and locked it away and thrown it to the bottom of the darkest deepest ocean. But just like every other moment spent with the twins, you were surprised by their bluntness. Surprised by their observant behaviors. Because for you your feelings were incredibly hidden. That your heart's darkest desire was locked away. Apparently not hidden enough for Ethan to have cornered you the way he had.
It wasnât difficult for the twins to finally convince you to move in with them. One look at their incredible puppy dog looks and you were putty in their hands. One muttered âplease Angel,â from Grayson and your entire resolve crumbled like ash on the ground. Packing your loft wasnât difficult when you had two eager man-children helping you.Â
Packing the back of Ethanâs Jeep while Grayson was out grocery shopping was oddly serene. Something that had left such a sense of calm washing over you, you never expected for the question to fall from his plush lips. âAre you ever going to tell him?â
Head rising to meet Ethanâs gaze your eyebrows rose slowly, âTell who what?âÂ
Ethanâs hazel eyes were wide and honest in his gentle stare, âTell Grayson that you love him.â
Mouth opening and closing like a fish out of water you shook your head. Shook your head at the absurdity of the moment. Here your best friend was, laying your biggest secret out in the open like it was common knowledge. Like he didnât know that just by his confession your heart wasnât hammering away in your chest. Like your entire body felt like it was going to shut down from his words alone.Â
Shaking your head frantically you stared up at him, eyes wide, âIâm not in love with Grayson. What are you talking about?â
Shaking his own head, body leaning against the side of the jeep, speaking as if you were a small child who didnât understand something, âYouâre in love with my brother, and itâs killing you.â
Breathing rising in tempo you shook your head once again. Face falling to one of absolute devastation. Flowers slithering their way up your throat threatening to slide past your lips like a flowing river. With one breath to the next, your body was curling in on itself. Heart dropping to the pit of your stomach, eyes welling with unshed tears.
You knew why you were dying. But it was so different hearing it out loud. So different hearing it be uttered from a mouth that wasnât your own. It all felt so much more real somehow. Like Ethanâs words had found a way into your thoracic cavity with such ferocity they werenât going to be letting go anytime soon. Words echoing and reverberating around in your chest, slamming again and again into every bit of your body that felt. Rendering you useless in only a way love truly can.
Falling forward fully, you collapsed your body into the warm strong chest in front of you. The damn that was holding your walls back, crashing down around you. Tears falling steadily from your eyes, breath catching in your chest between each in and out. Soft wails escaping your mouth with each haggard sob that wracked itself from your body. Ethanâs own strong arms coming to wrap around you, to catch you as you fell. The way they had for so many years now. Forever being the one to be there when you broke. To help you put the pieces back together again.Except this time, you werenât sure if your pieces could ever be put back together again. Werenât sure if the man in front of you was ever going to be able to help when the cause was someone who would never love you back.Â
Hands sliding up and down your back, up through your hair and back down again, brought you slight ease. The familiar rise and fall of the chest your cheek laid on, settled you slightly. The steady heartbeat, the thump thump thump of it all caused your tears to settle some.
âShhh, shhh. Youâre gonna be okay.â Lips pressed against your hair, words spoken into your head as if that would resonate deeper.
Tightening your grip around his body you clung to the warmth he provided. Clung to the safety of your best friend.
Arms tightening around you, âYou have to tell him Y/n. He deserves to know. He deserves the truth.âÂ
Shaking your head, you dug further into his chest, âWhat so he can feel guilty? So, he can feel pity for me?â
Arms tightening around you, Ethanâs voice took on an edge, âHe could never pity you and you know that. Gray isnât like that.âÂ
Blinking the last of your tears away your body going slightly tense in Ethanâs arms, âI donât want him to know, because I donât want it to ruin what we have.âÂ
Sighing deeply, Ethan pulled back from the hug slowly, âHe deserves the truth, Y/n. Just think about telling him.â
Before you could truly process the weight of his words he was pulling away and walking back into your apartment to collect the last boxes. Swallowing past the lump you still felt in your throat, you followed, feet feeling like they were being weighed down. In a blink of an eye, you were completely packed away and saying goodbye to the home youâd known for three years. Saying goodbye to the last bit of freedom you had. Said goodbye to the past and pushed forward knowing no matter how bleak your future may look, you were going to live it to the fullest.
Living with the twins wasnât anything you werenât used to. You practically lived there before officially moving in that it was second nature. Living there however caused a shift in the dynamics. One of the twins always finding a way into your room late at night. Sliding into your bed like it was their own, seeking comfort in the fact that you were with them for one more day.
Grayson spending the most time curled up on the other half of your California king. Claiming your room had âmore natural light.â But deep down you knew. Knew he was scared that you werenât going to be there when he woke up the next morning if he slept in his own room.
Walking in on Grayson and Ethan talking in earnest to one another. Their inner fears surfacing where they sat around the fire pit one night. Overheard the way Graysonâs voice broke when he said your name. Saw the faintest gloss shining in Ethanâs eye from a distant. You knew deep in your gut you should tell Grayson. Should somehow manage to man up and let him know that you were so madly in love with him. But you knew that there was a possibility he would never feel the same no matter what you told him. The smallest sliver of a chance that he could was what always held you back in the end. You didnât want pity love.
If he hadnât loved you in all these years, he wouldnât with such a confessionÂ
With enough sorrow leaking through every wall, the three of you decided it would be a nice change to get out. To go someplace you could all just breathe and not worry too completely about the inevitable. So, with slight reluctance from the twins, you managed to convince them to go to a Halloween party. Managed to get them psyched enough to go.Â
Convincing Grayson wasnât too hard considering you knew his love for the season. Convincing Ethan was a little harder since the last place he wanted to be was some random party. But in the end, his need to just be normal for one night and let go outweighed his nagging mind.Â
So, with a fist pump to the air, the three of you headed out. The twins each dressed as boxers for the night, decked to the nines, fake bruises here and there to add effect. You choosing to go as the classic Lara Croft tomb raider. Decked with thigh high heeled boots. You were on a high just knowing you were going to be having fun soon.Â
Before youâd even left the house, standing there waiting for an uber, Grayson couldnât keep his eyes off you. Wide eyes raking your figure whenever he thought you werenât looking. Taking in the way your skin was on display. Welcoming the way your smile was slightly more blinding than usual. Heart rising in tempo with the newfound feelings slamming against his ribcage. Mind turning and turning in confusion for the way his heart soared at your proximity, something churning low in his gut.Â
Something he had never felt when you were near. He was used to feeling happy when you were near. Used to feeling contentment, safety, and familiarity. The same feelings he got when Ethan was close by. He wasnât used to the way his palms got sweaty when you leaned against him to steal warmth. Wasnât used to the way just the sight of your body sent him into confused arousal.Â
Mind caught in a tangle of webs he didnât notice the pair of identical hazel eyes burning holes into his body. Didnât notice the way his own twin watched the two of you interact with his eyes shining like he just knew what was going through his brothersâ head. Like he could practically see the way his twin was battling a war he had no chance of winning. Grayson didnât notice the smirk that was ever-present on Ethanâs face at the way you and Grayson would gravitate towards each other. Like two magnets drawn to each other. Â And you were.Â
That night was the first night in a long time where you allowed yourself the simplicity of the closeness that came with being near Grayson. Oblivious to the shift within the person next to you. Completely clueless to the wandering eyes. Clueless to the weight that those eyes held when looking upon your face. Oblivious to everything but the way your body was thrumming with excitement, anticipation, and slight nerves.Â
The ride in the uber was much the same. The three of you settled in the back with anticipation buzzing through your veins. Content that the three of you were even in the same place and were willingly choosing to have fun. Ethan once again tuning the world out in favor of his phone. Texting and smiling at only god knows who. Grayson choosing to stare out the window mind in a mess. Trying to decipher what all these sudden feelings meant.
Before any of you knew it your uber driver Josh was pulling up to the location of the party. The three of you sliding out of the back with kind thanks towards Josh. Linking arms with the twins you drug them up the path towards the house. Towards Kian and JCâs house where the party was being held. That despite the previous history between Kian, Ethan, and their ex, you were all on amicable terms.Â
Walking into the house you could easily hear the music, feel it in your bones. Could see the laughing people dancing all about. Taking in the bright, light feeling of finally being at a party when all youâd done the last three months was wallow, was a blessing in disguise. Walking fully into the house you let go of the twinsâ arms in the immediate search for something to help you have a little more fun.Â
You werenât a drinker. Never had been, but tonight, tonight you wanted to have pure fun. Spotting what you were looking for, you saddled up next to JC who was pouring three shots one for each person in front of him.Â
Throwing your arm around his, you ruffled his curly hair, âPour another one for little ol me?âÂ
Tilting his head to look at you, a bright smile spread across his face, âYo! Y/n long time no see!âÂ
Smile widening you gave him a one-armed hug, âYea I know. But I came here to have fun, so pour it up, Castillo.âÂ
Rolling his eyes at your use of his last name, he grabbed another shot glass and poured you some tequila. Reaching forward you grabbed your glass, clinking it with the people in front of you. Taking in you were cheering with JC, Ricky Dillon, Franny, and Crawford. Letting out a bright cheer the five of you downed the shots like they were water. Franny wincing slightly before reaching for a lime to chase the flavor down.Â
Smiling you pulled away from JC to take in where the twins wandered off to. At first glance, they were nowhere to be seen. Upon further inspection, you noticed Ethanâs red robe in the corner laughing brightly with Corey, red solo cup held loosely in his grip. Eyes wandering further you found Grayson in his blue robe flopped on the couch, dragged into an intense game of Mario Kart with Kian.Â
Laughing to yourself at the absurdity of the situation. Only Grayson would be at a party, playing Mario Kart. Heart soaring at the sight in front of you, you reached for the tequila yet again, taking a long swig. Hoping that the burn of the alcohol would take away the burn of your heart. That the bitterness of it would hide the way your heart called out for someone who didnât want you back.Â
Shaking your head, you moved about the house, finding Bobby and a few others on the back deck, with a bunch of pumpkins locked in on a pumpkin carving contest. Deciding tonight wouldnât be the night youâd dwell in your head, you sat next to Bobby, grabbed a pumpkin and began to let go of your sad thoughts.Â
About thirty minutes later, with your mixed drink gone, a pleasant feeling flowing through your veins, and stomach aching from laughter it was finally time to decide the winner. Somehow a crowd had gathered watching as the five of you pushed and sabotaged each otherâs pumpkins. Everyone burst into laughter when you got the evil idea to chuck Domâs pumpkin into the pool. Laughter was loud in the air as you watched as he tried to retrieve it without falling into the pool himself.Â
Crowning the winner was a whole other debacle itself. Considering the deciding vote was a very tipsy Corey who thought Bobbyâs spider's web was better than your really sick vampiresâ teeth.Â
Pouting you shoved a floundering Corey into the pool, sending Dom who was still trying to get his pumpkin, flying into the pool. With a triumphant fist pump, you found your way back into the house, grabbing another drink as you past the kitchen.Â
Finding who you were looking for you slid up to them, dancing your fingers across their open side. Fingers tracing the tattoos just on his ribs, you looked up into Ethanâs glossy whiskey eyes. A sign he was well on his way to feeling great himself, âYo Etee, dance with me.â Before he could even think about protesting you were setting the both of your cups down and pulling him towards your body.Â
Wrapping your arms around his neck, your bodies began moving in sync to the music. His own arms settling around your waist, as the both of you tilted your heads back half singing half screaming the lyrics.Â
Ethan pulling back momentarily to do his signature dance, before pulling you back to his body. As the song changed you turned around in Ethanâs arms, your back pressing against his body. The beat slightly more sensual, your bodies following suit.Â
Head falling back onto his shoulder your eyes took in your surroundings. Took in the way others were dancing, laughing, taking shots, making absolute fools of themselves. Took in the air of sheer joy radiating off of everyone and reveled in it. Continued to sway your hips in time with Ethanâs the both of you just enjoying the feel of the other's body.Â
Ethan eventually pulling back at the shout he heard of someone exclaiming there was pineapple pizza. Rolling your eyes at the overgrown five your old you grabbed your cup downing it, before grabbing Ethanâs and swallowing that one down. Your body warm in ways that only alcohol running through your system could cause.Â
Deciding to go find Franny to dance with you were stopped by a gentle grip on your wrist. Your body being pulled back against a strong chest, a chest you were all too familiar with. Your entire being melting into his arms, as they wrapped around your body.Â
Soft lips grazing your ear with the whispered words he spoke, âDance on me like you did with Ethan.âÂ
Swallowing past the feeling collecting low in the pit of your stomach, your arms came up to rest on his neck, your hips rolling back against his. Twisting and turning in a way that caused your insides to heat up in an entirely different way than when you were dancing with Ethan.Â
Graysonâs hands sliding up and down your bare sides. Fingertips dancing along your sensitive ribs, as his own hips pressed against your ass in a sensual roll, that had your breath hitching.Â
A nose trailing gently along your shoulder and up to your ear caused your hips to stutter slightly at the sound of the slightly slurred words coming from Graysonâs lips, âYou definitely werenât dancing like this with E.âÂ
Turning around in his arms body pressed tightly to his you stared up into his eyes. Hazel all but encompassed by black, your own words coming out mixing together âI wasnât?âÂ
Humming deep in his chest, he pulled your body impossibly closer to his, sliding one strong thigh between your own, âYou know damn well you werenât.âÂ
Raising a challenging eyebrow, you rolled your hips forward, âOops?âÂ
Pressing forward, his hands sliding down your lower back to rest on the top of your ass, head moving lower, lips inches apart from yours, âDonât sound too convincing there.â
Licking your lips, eyes glancing at the way his eyes tracked the movement, becoming even darker. Eyes flickering up to his, body moving unconsciously with his. The slow grind enough to drive you wild with desire.Â
Like your every nerve ending was on fire with him this close to you. Leaning up on your toes mouth open softly, watching as Graysonâs own head moved closer to your own. Bringing his mouth that much closer to yours. Every instinct in your body telling you to go for it. To take what you want and not look back. To finally push yourself over the edge and fall into the waters of Grayson Dolan.
To snuff out the doubt and drown in the love you held for the man in front of you. Right and wrong fighting for the final say in your brain. Fighting for you to either fall or snap back to reality.
With your eyes closing, your choice was made, and you fell into your decision lips first.
