CHAPTER 5
<<CHP 4
Y/n was getting ready to head over to Emily's. Kim had a surprise awaiting for everyone at her place. She was currently alone in the house, it unnerved her slightly, luckily Quil said he'd pick her up. Comforting her knowing she wouldn’t be alone for long.
Slapping on some earrings last minute she rushed down the stairs. After hearing a vehicle pull in sure enough Quil was at the door. “Hey!” Y/n greeted opening the door to let him inside. “Yo” Quil replied as he reached in for a hug.
“Been awhile” he said as they headed inside together. “Yeah it has but hey we'll be having some fun today. And getting to update one another” y/n said rushing around for her house keys, purse, and jacket. Quil unsurprised strolled around looking at the state of the house.
Compared to their grandparents, it was starting to look modern, pieces of art hung on the walls. Some made by y/n some were not, ambient lighting placed around the house, it looked like there was a woman's touch in the house.
“It looks so nice in here now with you and Kim here” he complimented as he made his way to the living room. Noticing the change from his grandparents taste to the girls. “Thanks! Kim has been helping with decorating” Quil looked at the living room coffee table. Multiple books were spread out along with other items.
Turning his head he recognized the title “Myths and legends of the Quileute Tribe”. He hastily picked it up before looking up at y/n. “Where did you get this?” Quil questioned in a harsh tone making her look at him.
“Uh the bookstore? Where else?” She laughed as he skimmed through the pages. His face looked concerned making y/n question him. “Everything alright? Y'know they're just stories don’t you” she tried to joke again but it fell on deaf ears.
Quil looked slightly upset as he found a few pages she highlighted and tabbed. The chapters about the “cold ones” and “shape shifters” made his eyes widen. She watched his eyes following the notes on the margins she wrote in. “Is there a problem?” Y/n asked as he clasped the book closed in his hands.
For a moment he paused, sighing he lowered his head, putting the book to his face eyes closed tight. Mumbling something to his self before turning back to her. “Can I borrow this? I haven't seen this book since grandpa was around. I'll bring it back once I'm done I swear” although he seemed eager she didn’t question it much.
She shrugged her shoulders saying “go ahead” y/n was slightly confused. But when it came to Quil she wasn't totally surprised by his behaviour either. “Alright well you ready?” he asked as she nodded. Both heading out to his truck together.
Pulling in she could already see how busy it was at Emily's. Strings of lights and glass bottles hung everywhere in the trees. She could see even the back of the house was lit up. “Oh wow so Kim pulled out all the stops” Quil acclaimed impressed by the scene.
“I wouldn't expect anything less” y/n smiled as she hopped out the truck. Immediately greeted by Seth, Thomas, and Damien. Seth came bursting out as the other two strolled behind. “Y/n you made it! Just in time” Seth smile bright whilst the two stood with stern faces.
“Just in time for what?” She asked walking inside to see Emily scurrying around the kitchen. “Hey guys come on in to the back! Everyone's out there at the moment” Emily was busy shaking a hot pot by the handles.
“Woah do you need any help? You might burn yourself” Y/n rushed to her side only making Emily giggle. “You can try but she'll just refuse. I told her we don't need popcorn but she insists” Sam said coming from the back door.
“Yeah I'm fine y/n the popcorn is almost done. Besides home made is best” Emily insisted as she continued to shake the pot. Sam went over to Emily mouthing the words “I'll help her” to both y/n and Quil. Before nodding his head towards the yard.
The two stepped outside to see everyone visiting. It was decorated beautifully with long porch lights strung throughout the trees to the house. The glass bottles were also hung back here, reflecting the light everywhere, a cozy environment.
There was a projector screen, music videos were being shown on the side of the house, loud speakers set the vibe. A steady fire was going as everyone sat around it. “There you guys are! Finally” Kim greeted from where she sat with Jared. Cuddled up together on a chair with blankets.
“We got drinks in the coolers all kinds” Jared pointed with his lips to the drink area. Again two coolers were filled with drinks like at the bonfire. One filled with different sodas, the other filled with alcoholic beverages of all sorts, everyone could decide for themselves. Quil immediately reached for a beer making y/n eye him down.
“What? Claire and her mom are fine this is my free time” he happily cracked it open to guzzle it down. She shrugged and grabbed a cooler for herself. Deciding to just take it easy sitting on one of the chairs.
Embry, Paul and Leah came running down from the hills suddenly. Despite it being sundown and the trees being dark. Upon seeing y/n there everyone's eyes widened with surprise.
“Oh!—” Embry exclaimed as the three came to a halt. They were lightly dressed considering it was still pretty cold out. Y/n found them strange making a confused face. They all greeted her after looking at one another awkwardly.
Leah and Paul strolled over to the coolers, picking out a beverage, whilst Embry went inside to see Sam. Y/n figured Paul and Leah would be drinking like they did at the bonfire. Paul came and sat right beside y/n surprising her. “Hey” he greeted as he twisted open a cold water bottle.
“Hey” she said watching him chug it like nothing. “So I take it you’re not drinking tonight?” Y/n asked nonchalantly catching his attention. Paul smiled as he twisted the water bottle close. “I just got off work, patrol actually, of course I’m gonna drink. But I’m just tryna get some water in before hand.” as soon as he uttered the word “patrol” everyone turned their heads at him. Unbeknownst to y/n as she smiled focused on Paul.
“Patrol huh?” She quizzed making him straighten his posture. “Uh— Yup—“ Paul quickly opened his bottle swigging down water to avoid answering. Sam stepped out with bags of popcorn on a tray. “Order up” he said aloud making the younger boys rush to get them. Before he could even set them down the boys ripped a few open.
“So Sam? Can I ask a quick question?” Y/n looked up at him. “Yes of course go ahead” Sam insisted smirking at how Paul whipped his head at him. “Well any one of you guys could can answer. But it’s just I’ve been meaning to ask you guys but… What do you guys do exactly? Most of you guys are security right? What’s that like?” Y/n was genuinely curious which Paul could see. Paul started to profusely choke on his water.
Sam opened his mouth to answer. Avoiding Paul’s intense glare hidden from y/n’s point of view. “Patrol just means we’ve been cruising around the Rez, tryna see if anything’s happening, making sure everything’s okay. ‘S all” he explained before drinking his beer quite fast.
“Yep that’s all” Leah said glaring at Paul intensely also. Y/n at this point was wondering if they were all so intense for no good reason. Finally taking a hint Sam turned to head back inside to help Emily. “You okay?” Y/n simply asked Paul as his full attention went back to her. “Yeah I’m good I just drank too fast” his answer made her laugh softening the look in his eye.
“So how’s your painting going? Hopefully no more accidents” he asked looking at her. Y/n always seemed to be pulled into his eyes, they were dark, low, and intense in a good way. “No but It’s going. Still a lot of progress but it’s been fun working at the school. Seeing Emily is one of the best parts about the job” Y/n exclaimed.
“That’s good” was all Paul said as Embry stepped back out. “Hey y/n I heard you almost went splat on the pavement the other day at school” Embry laughed coming down the steps. Paul looked upset up until y/n laughed. “Yeah almost until this guy came and helped me. I was being nosey at something when my ladder tipped” She explained making the rest laugh.
“Nosey? Nosey at what?” Paul asked making y/n flash to Renesmee. Bringing up the ugly feelings she had been trying to push down all evening. Her smile fell slightly as she shook her head. “It doesn’t matter now I ended up not seeing anything” trying to brush it off. Paul’s stare lingered for a second longer trying to examine her.
The three youngest boys came to sit with the rest of the group. Seth, Damien, and Thomas all seemed to cling together y/n noticed. “Oh so that was you on the ladder outside” Damien pointed out of no where. “Everyone has been talking about you” Thomas added as he ate a bag of popcorn.
“Really?” She asked curious while Thomas nodded with a mouth full of food. “Yeah but mostly about how you’re taking up space at the court” Damien blurted making Embry smack his head. Y/n gasped at the sight but Damien seemed to not even notice his hit.
“Did you see our fight? We totally kicked those guys asses—“ Seth blurted making Thomas elbow him in the stomach. He keeled over to side making Leah laugh loudly. “No but I heard about it. I seen Paul and Leah drive you guys home” y/n answered.
“You didn’t see it? You were near by when it happened right in the parking lot. Aren’t you painting at the basketball courts?” Thomas questioned making y/n think back. “Well usually I have headphones in so I don’t notice much around me” y/n nervously giggled as everyone shook their heads.
“Hm, makes sense” Paul said making y/n turn to face him. A smug smile spread across his lips as he looked at her with low eyes. She softly smiled and shrugged her shoulders once more. “She’s always been like this” Quil added his two cents suddenly.
“Yeah I remember how spaced out you were when we were kids. Always off in your own world” Kim said as a matter of fact. Waving her hand across twinkling her fingers in the air when saying “your own world.” Earning a laugh from everyone including Paul. Her ears flushed pink instantly.
Y/n couldn’t help but scoff offended by her cousins. “Hey I’m not that spaced out—“ she tried to defend herself. Quil and Kim both said a dragged out “eh—“ in unison disagreeing with her.
“This isn’t about me anyways—Back to you boys why did you guys even get into a fight? Not to mention, why didn’t I see you guys in class? I was going around consulting and didn’t see any of you” Y/n said attempting to change the subject. “Hey that doesn’t matter right now!—“ Seth tried to argue back as the other two boys got riled up.
“Some guy was tryna test Damien to fight. Saying he could take him no problem” Thomas explained as he cracked into a soda. Damien leaned back in his chair with a smug face. “I needed to relieve some stress so it was my lucky day” he calmly said arms crossed.
“Now we can’t ride the bus and have to sit through detention” Seth said as him and Thomas groaned in agony. Paul and Jared laughed cheering to each other from afar. “Ah I remember those days. The days when you couldn’t get charged for anything” Paul sighed reminiscing.
“You say that as if both our dads weren’t tryna send us to juvie” Jared laughed. “God I don’t miss those days, forever having to save your guys asses, oh wait— I still am” Sam said as him and Emily finally sat down to enjoy themselves.
Everyone erupted with laughter at Sam’s comment. Jared mocked Sam in an annoying manner. Whilst Paul just gave a fake laugh as he showed him the finger boldly.
“Wait what do you mean they weren’t in class?” Leah questioned making the three boys freeze instantly. All sat stiff and quiet looking at y/n with pleading eyes. Too bad y/n wasn’t great at reading them.
“Well the first day on my job I went around consulting students. Basically just asking them what they want on the walls. I don’t remember seeing any of you there” Y/n pointed out drawing all the heat off her onto them.
“That was earlier this week wasn’t it?” Leah questioned connecting the dots. Before anyone could say anything the three jumped out of their seats and ran. Leah raised a fist watching them storm off. “Fucking idiots” she hissed out angrily as the rest laughed. “So that means they’re still skipping class” she said opening a cold beer.
Sam raised his arms in defeat with a heavy sigh. “I’ve been coming by to check on them in class and they’re usually there—” Emily tried to defend them. “But not often enough obviously” Leah spat harshly making even y/n jump back. Emily's smile faded into a soft frown obviously disappointed in herself.
“Well she has her own class so when would she have time?” Y/n said matching Leah’s tone. Leah was the one to sit back slightly from the surprising tone of y/n this time.
“Besides I bet you have to go on your break to check on them. Right? Or somehow during your own class” y/n added not seeing how nervous everyone around them became. Emily simply nodded in agreement making y/n raised her hand towards her. “See?” y/n pointed out and Leah’s lips tightened to a straight line.
Everyone instantly got more nervous at the sudden tension. “Look they’re young and they’re boys on top of it. They won’t listen to no one” y/n offered as Leah sat in silence. She sat for a moment before exhaling a deep breath.
“It’s just—I’m the one who catches shit every time he misses. Seth put me as his emergency contact so anytime he skips I get the call. And now it seems I’m gonna have to be the one to break the news to my mom” Leah explained making the guys exclaim loudly.
“Dang that’s cold of Seth who would’ve thought” Jared laughed as him and Embry cheered this time. “I should've done that when I was in school” Embry seemingly joked but when y/n looked at him he was seriously thinking of it.
“I'll talk with them” Sam assured Leah, the two sat looking at one another, before she got up and stormed inside. “I gotta call him” she loosely explained before slamming the sliding door.
“Jesus Leah” Kim exclaimed jumping at the sounds of the slam. Quil simply got the speaker and slid the volume up louder. Y/n sat awkwardly gripping her drink wondering if she should have said anything different.
Paul reached to put a hand near hers, placing it on her arm rest, catching her attention she locked eyes with him. “Don't worry about her. She just worries about Seth a lot. Nothing personal” he assured her and almost immediately her nerves settled. Y/n smiled softly as the corners of Paul's mouth lifted.
“I need another one” Quil sighed as he headed back to the coolers. It seemed Quil amused Paul somehow as he chuckled lightly. Eventually everyone started to have a great time. Visiting and chatting loudly amongst each other as the alcohol started to hit.
Leah was gone for what seemed like a long time. Coming back outside she was still in a sour mood as she slammed the sliding door. Sam choked on his beer “hey watch it!” He exclaimed. Leah snapped her eyes sitting back down with a huff.
“Well the boys took off but I located them”
“Where are they?” Jared asked as she shook her head. “They took off to this house party. I'm just gonna leave them alone” she sighed cracking into a beer, easily downing it, before crushing and tossing it to the side.
Obviously upset the girls sat letting Leah have her moment. But the guys didn't seem to care as they kept the same smiles. “Leave em be they deserve a break too” Quil pressed. Y/n could see how flush his face was. Meaning his beers must be hitting nicely now. Leah flared her nostrils ready to argue before Kim jutted in first.
“I can’t wait for warmer weather” Kim said bundled up in a warm blanket. Eager to speak on anything besides her younger brothers. It was still early spring the breeze nipped everyone’s skin now that it was dark. Leah sat back with a huff before going on her phone again. Seemingly calmed down as the conversation carried on.
“Can’t wait for more bonfires, beach parties, powwows, ugh I love summer” Emily said leaning back in her chair. “It feels good to actually have another woman here. It's always just me, Kim and Leah” the three of them agreed. Emily took off inside suddenly throwing off her blanket to the side. Sam sat confused and lonely as he placed his arm back to his side.
“Always out numbered by—” Kim said before Embry and Quil started to wrestle on the ground. The two bursting with laughter thumping each other on the ground. “Them” Kim flinched as Quil was slammed to the ground on his back.
“Jesus” Y/n said as Quil was getting choked out from embry, keeping him in a dead lock, legs wrapped around Quil to keep him still. Y/n leaned back in her chair towards Paul who stood up abruptly.
“Okay! Knock it off” Paul's voice boomed as he waved his hand at the two. “Got your ass easily” Embry said pushing Quil off him. Quil was obviously drunk as he staggered laughing getting up. Embry pulled him from under his arm and shoved him in one of the chairs.
Emily came back outside, carrying four drinks, and a sharp knife. “Ladies gather around me” she said as the three looked at each other confused. All getting up to join Emily as she handed them each a drink.
“A cheers to us four ladies! Shot gun!” Emily said as she held the knife eager to stab a hole in the drink. “Oh okay? We’re doing this? Okay we’re doing this” y/n said suprised at her sudden excitement. The guys all just laughed watching this go down.
The three girls watched Emily struggle until Leah intervened. “Move I'll make the holes” she grabbed the knife and stabbed a hole carefully into their drinks. Scared Emily would cut one or more of them in the process.
“1 2 3 drink!” Kim cheered as they all cracked the side and started to chug. Y/n closed her eyes as she struggled to down the liquid. Leah finished first placing the drink down before stomping it flat. All the guys sat back stunned and amazed at the girls.
“Agh” y/n said as she wiped her mouth. Kim stumbled back burping loudly before screaming “whoo!” loudly. All four laughed out loud as they felt the liquor hitting their bloodstream.
The rest of the night was filled with endless karaoke songs. They were simply watching music videos on the projector. But everyone sang and partied like they were performing for their lives.
All the confidence no shame holding anyone back thanks to the liquor. The girls, especially Kim, all got drunk faster than the guys. But even the guys were actually letting loose. A rare sight and treat for them all.
By the end of the night Quil was too drunk to drive home. “Maybe I should just make him sleep here or something” Emily suggested as they all stood over him. “Ugh c’mon! You promised and said you could handle it!” y/n cried out realizing she was out of a ride home.
“I can!” He argued trying to sit up before getting the spins. “Fuck” Quil groaned fighting the urge to puke as he slammed back into his chair. “Nah he can go home and puke in his own bed. Jared” Sam said shooting a look at Jared.
All he did was nod before throwing Quil over his shoulder like a sack of potatoes. “You” Jared said turning to look at y/n. “You're riding with us” he stated as a fact before walking away to the truck Quil in tow.
Y/n sighed with relief as she followed behind Kim. There was no way y/n wasn't drunk as she held onto Kim's hand before stumbling. An arm grabbed her and held her close to their side. She could tell by the body temperature alone it was Paul as she looked up at him. Making her feel even more warm and bubbly on the inside.
“Here I'll help you” he stated as he held his left hand on her back pulling her in, holding her right hand, guiding y/n to the truck. She felt she was walking on air strutting confidently by his side. His body was firm from his toned muscles, and the way his hands were rough and calloused, made her even more elated to be held by him.
Reaching for the truck door to open it he immediately grabbed the door before her. “What are you doing?” He questioned harshly making her snap out of it for a second. Looking at each other confused he opened the door and stood to the side. Signaling with his hand for her to enter and sit down.
Y/n stood there briefly taken aback as he raised his eyebrows. “So?” He questioned as she snapped out of it again rushing into the truck. “Y’know” he said holding the door open. “It was good to see you tonight.” Paul surprised y/n as she smiled back. “I’m glad I got to see you too Paul” she admitted making him smirk so handsomely.
“I hope you’ll come around more often now that you see how fun we can be”. Taking a moment he looked down at her lips then trailed back to her eyes. She sat with her heart fluttering, unknowingly leaning in, he was also as he opened his mouth to speak. Looking through his eyelashes y/n felt almost in a daze.
“Ugh hurry up! I gotta piss” Quil slurred ruining the moment completely. The two frowned and sighed shaking their heads at him. Y/n scoffed and pushed Quil away from herself. Quil just groaned annoyed as he brushed her hand away.
“Well anyways— Goodnight y/n” he said as she nodded waving him bye “Night” y/n said simply. Shutting the door he tapped the truck twice signaling Jared everyone was in. With a loud rev of the engine they drove down the driveway.
Looking out the window watching Paul walk away he turned to look at her. Calmly he waved before heading inside Emily's. She sat staring out the window drunk and in her feelings about him. The small spot on her back where he held y/n burned into her.
“Fuckk” Quil wretched up and let out an ugly cough. Sending her straight back into reality. “Get a bag!” Kim cried out as y/n scrambled to find something to puke in.
The whole ride home y/n had to nurse Quil, it reminded her of the old days, when it was just the three of them. Now they were grown and living their own lives it felt bittersweet. Quil leaned his head on her shoulder as he brushed his hair back.
The weekend came and went, y/n and Kim spent most of it hungover, Sunday was their last recovery day. Before both had to gear up and start the work week. Y/n's second week of painting at the school. She was in a routine at this point with the mural.
Standing on her ladder she brushed against the wall. Feeling an unnerving energy on her back she turned around to see that same strange girl from before. Staring up at her with curious eyes clutching a black book.
“I thought you'd use spray paint” she said in a hushed tone so faint y/n could barely hear. “Spraypaint?” She questioned as the girl nodded “I do sometimes on certain areas” y/n pointed to the ground where the rest of her materials sat.
“It looks nice so far” the girl commented, y/n at this point climbed down, since she could hardly hear her. That and she wanted to be close to her spray cans in case she tried to nab them. As much as y/n liked the kids here she knew better. It'd be her luck they get into her paints and vandalize something.
“Thank you” y/n politely said as the two looked up at the mural. “How long will it take?” The girl asked as y/n shrugged her shoulders. “I'm tryna finish in less than a month but we'll see” y/n answered as she looked down at her book.
“Is that a sketchbook?” She questioned making the girl smile. The girl had brassy brown hair tucked into her hoodie. A fair complexion with brown eyes and mouse like features. Her baggy hoodie made her look bigger than she really was.
“I draw too just a different style than yours” the girl opened up the book and skimmed through the pages. Her art was talented and expressive, the style was a mash of anime and abstraction, y/n studied her drawings as she flipped through the pages.
“So what’s your name?”
“Maislyn, I know it's not as good as yours but—”
“No no this is great! Really” y/n said as she basically took over going through the sketchbook. Most were drawings of her classmates, nothing crazy, there were portraits of them sitting in class. A different face each time as she studied their proportions.
Turning the next page both sides were filled with drawings of a single girl. Long wavy hair that flowed effortlessly, dark alluring eyes that followed her through the pages, she seemed so familiar it shocked y/n. A slender figure with porcelain skin and copper coloured hair.
The rest of the pages were filled with different angles and portraits of this one girl. Some done in black graphite some were fully coloured. All of the drawings you could see it was the same girl.
Y/n guts turned in knots of curiosity and a familiar fear. All her hairs standing attention on her back and neck. The next page the drawings were done in a red almost brown colour. Before she could even continue Maislyn tore the book quickly from her hands.
The two looked at each other shocked as y/n raised her hands in defense. “Sorry—” they said in unison as Maislyn frowned upset. “Sorry it's just I'm shy about the rest” she said shutting the book closed hugging it to her chest.
“No it's okay—really. I think your work is great” y/n complimented her which seemed to suprise her from the look on her face. Instantly lighting up with a happy expression. “Really?” The girl asked as y/n nodded sincerely.
“Really” she repeated before the bell rang loudly signaling class ended. “I gotta go. I just wanted to say how I like your… painting so far” Maislyn tugged at her bags quickly shoving her book inside. Y/n tried to say goodbye but the girl took off in a scurried manner.
She wondered more about Maislyn and who she was. Taking a short moment to ponder before getting back to work. Mindlessly stroking the wall with paint she kept flashing back to the girl in the sketch book. How familiar and drawn in she felt staring at the pages.
A few days passed and Maislyn made it a habit to stop by to see y/n working. Walking by and waving at her on her way from classes. It encouraged others, including Seth and Thomas who liked to bug her, stopping by and watching her work. She had seen the older boys around, Colin, Brady, and even Damien. But they must’ve thought she wasn’t cool enough because they avoided her and Emily like the plague.
Although she felt slightly confused and uncomfortable it wasn't something she couldn't handle. Y/n had gotten used to seeing Maislyn the most. She wondered who she was and more about her artwork. She hardly answered any of y/n’s questions about herself. Instead it was more like she quizzed y/n about everything art related.
Packing up her bins of paints and spray cans she headed to her car. Today she planned to leave earlier than usual. Y/n was leaving with the rest of the kids. Everyone rushed past her in a hurried almost panicked manner.
She knew there were a lot of kids at this rez school. In fact she was used to the busy crowds and rush hours. But everyone was rushing to the back parking lot where she was headed. Unusual since most of the kids go on the buses. The school bus parking lot was on the complete other side of the school.
That’s when she froze in the parking lot. Renesmee stood at one of the cars surrounded by groups of people. All enamored by her charm she stood conversing with them effortlessly. Everyone walking past glanced back at her more than once, by the amount of attention she was getting, anyone would think she was someone famous.
Y/n watched how people were basically ogling her down. All she had to do was smile and everyone would erupt in excitement. Some eventually worked up enough courage to talk to her. Stopping in their tracks just to turn around and talk to her.
Immediately Renesmee laid eyes on y/n, dark orbs pulling her in intensely, Renesmee looked slightly annoyed for a moment. Not that anyone but y/n noticed as she smiled waving goodbye. Her hair flowing effortlessly as she strutted away from the crowd.
Getting into a car with three other rez kids. Maislyn being one of the three sat still covered up in a hood. People still gathered around the car curious of Renesmee and the group. “Shit” y/n cursed as she was over run with an unsettling feeling in the pit of her stomach.
Watching the car speed out of the parking lot. Everyone still buzzed about the mysterious new girl suddenly hanging at the rez. Y/n stood dumbfounded at the crowd seeing how disappointed they were at her exit.
“Hey there y/n” Seth said loudly shocking her as he came from behind smiling. “Seth! You scared me” she exclaimed, he just laughed amused by her reaction, “Gotcha” he teased her cheekily.
In the corner of her eye she was distracted by Damien, Colin, Brady, and even Thomas. Who she didn’t realize were staring down the crowd just as she was. Both turning away she watched them get into a truck before speeding away.
“I brought the rest of your supplies. Y’know you're very trusting of your stuff here” Y/n realized he was carrying somehow everything in his arms. Bags filling his arms and his hands carrying all her bins effortlessly.
“If I were you I'd put everything under a lock and key. Also how do you even load up the ladder? It’s huge. I was having a hard time folding it up so I just left it is that okay?” Seth said as y/n couldn’t help but giggle at his efforts. Finding him so endearing and sincere.
“Thanks for the help but the ladder belongs to the school. Maintenence will take it inside. You saved me a lot of hassle” she was relieved to have Seth near her for some reason. Her nerves already settled, Seth stood with a strange look on his face, y/n felt he needed to say something.
“Whats the matter?” She asked making him sigh scratching his head nervously. “I was wondering if you can give me a ride home? I still can't go on the bus until next week” he explained as she agreed. “Damn they're still on you for that fight?” She asked as they walked to the car together.
“Uh…” Seth trailed on as he sheepishly stepped towards the passenger side. “Oh so you got into another fight huh?” She hit right on the nose, y/n could tell by how Seth laughed nervously, shaking her head she couldn't help but stifle her laugh. “More than a couple of fights if I'm being honest…” Seth admitted honestly.
“Well… I guess I could give you ride. Seeing as you saved me by loading up everything” she teased sarcastically as the two hopped in the car. Seth smiled at ease after her reassurance. “You just gotta remind me how to get to your place. Sue is your mom right?”
“Yep. I’ll point out the roads as we go along”
Cruising down the rez her and Seth sat together in the car. “Whoo I'm glad you were around otherwise I would've been walking by now” Seth sighed with relief head sticking out the window.
“Where are the rest of the boys today? Don't one of them have a truck?” She asked knowing fully well she saw the two leaving when they left. “They're busy” he shrugged not even trying to answer.
“What about Leah? I thought her and Paul were picking you up from school since the whole bus ban”
“Nah that was a one day thing. They basically told us to walk after that day”
“That's pretty harsh” y/n said thinking of how the two could even let them walk. Considering the dangers of bears, cougars, and other dangerous wildlife that's common on the rez. Or even worse rez dogs that come in packs.
“Eh to them they're teaching us a lesson I suppose”
“I guess” y/n said shrugging her shoulders. “Yeah but Leah will be happy to see you” he insisted as he stuck his hand out gliding his hand on the breeze. “You think?” Y/n genuinely asked making him scoff out loud.
“Of course she and the guys can't stop talking about you” Seth smiled and clasped his hands together under his chin mocking his family. “It’s always ‘y/n this’ or ‘y/n did that’ ‘where's y/n?” He mocked all the others funnily making her giggle. She sat thinking of all them and their mannerisms. “Oh really?” She teased amused by his words. “Really. Honestly sometimes I get annoyed of them— not you of course! But just how they can bug so much. Leah gets upset the more than I do” he continued on.
“So who asks me about me the most?” Y/n was curious as Seth suddenly shrunk down into his seat. Completely opposite from his honest rambling just a second ago. Seth’s face became flushed pink as he smiled looking away. “I can't just tell you” he bashfully admitted before she pressed on.
“C’mon at least a hint?” She pleaded as he shook his head no profusely. “A small one please? I’m so curious” y/n's mind kept going thinking of which of them would ask about her the most. Maybe Leah? Or even Embry? The thought of Paul instantly made her heart beat fast. But she quickly shot herself down thinking why would he ask?
“Okay okay” Seth let up as he raised his hands in defence. She sat eagerly switching her attention to him and back to the road quickly. He smiled before putting one finger up on his lips to express keeping it quiet. “My only hint is that it’s someone you'd least expect” he answered making her turn to look at him. A cheeky smile spread across his face as she frowned at the vague hint.
“That's it?”
“That's it”
He insisted as he shrugged his shoulders before turning away. Hiding his smirk by looking out the window. Y/n pouted as she continued to drive. Something that seemed to amused Seth as he covered his smile.
Wondering who it could be, with her luck it'll be one of the younger boys, like Thomas or something and Seth trying to push him to her. Luck was hardly on her side when it came to love it seemed.
“Anyways I messaged Leah and she’s home”
“Oh okay did you want me to take you to her place instead?” Y/n asked making Seth confused as he made a face. “What do you mean?” He asked making her puzzled as well. “Leah and me stay together at the same place” he explained only making her more confused.
“I didn't know she lived with you. At your mom sue's?” Y/n was suprised making Seth laugh out loud. “Uh yeah where else would she live?” He said as y/n felt slightly flustered. “I dunno but I just assumed she lived alone or something” y/n said while Seth pointed to her next turn.
“No she stays with me and my mom.. But from the looks of it my mom will probably move out soon” Seth sighed as y/n sat confused. “What? Why’s that?” She questioned making him sit up straight, this was the first time she's seen him be serious, his smile faded into a tight expression.
“My mom has a new man she’s been staying with. Leah takes it hard since our dad passed and…” he hesitated almost like he just realized what he was saying. Y/n sat intrigued as she glanced over at him waiting.
“The guy is our dad’s best friend” he confessed shocking y/n as she sat with her mouth agape. “… Yeah…” Seth trailed on as y/n apologized “Sorry it's just—that’s shocking”. Y/n recollected her composure and stayed attentive to Seth’s feelings.
“Yeah so… Leah should be home anyways” Seth stopped his self before moving on about the shenanigans him and the boys got into today. Y/n on the other hand kept thinking of Renesmee. Maislyn was with her right now, y/n felt her hands clam up, thinking of how they were alone together.
Driving down the rez roads turning a tight corner, two cops belonging to Forks sped past the two, lights flashing with the sirens on loudly. “Woah!” y/n exclaimed as they rushed past her with immense speed. Seth and her turned in their seats to see which direction they were headed.
“Those guys were from forks. Must be something serious if they're on the rez” Seth said eyebrows furrowed with worry as they continued to look for where they were going. Y/n wasn't sure what to say as she sat worried just as much. Trying to ease her nerves after getting surprised by the cops.
Maislyn kept running through her mind. The unsettling feeling rushing over her as her palms started to coldly sweat. Her guts felt like they were sitting in a tight heavy knot. She felt the need to know more about her.
But how? She wondered as her eyes focused on the road blanking out on what Seth was talking about. Until she realized and looked at him. The two were surely peers growing up maybe Seth would know more of her.
“Hey Seth I gotta ask you something” She asked making him stop rambling about the boys. “Do you know of a Maislyn? I don't have her last name” Seth sat thinking for a moment before even answering.
“I… Think she’s in one of my classes? I dunno I hardly see or hear anyone talk of her. She's a quiet girl who's hardly in school. I grew up with her on the rez but I hardly ever talked with her. Why do you ask?”
Her hopes quickly deflating after his answer. “Nothing it’s just… She's been coming around me when i’m working lately. I just wondered who she was” y/n felt she should've explained her self more. But instead she just kept quiet about how curious she really was of her.
“Yeah well she’s been in and out the reserve all her life. That and she’s hardly at school” Seth didn't seem interested enough to care or continue. Pulling up to Sue's approach Leah and Paul stepped out of the house. Y/n's heart started to beat steadily as the two approached the vehicle.
“Hey” Leah greeted her with a smile as y/n rolled down her window. “Hey guys” she replied watching Paul say something to Seth as he hopped out of the car. Thanking y/n before exiting the car.
Stepping up to the window to join Leah he smiled at her. “And how's y/n doing today? ” he asked leaning his arm onto the car door to peer in close. His scent wafting in the air as he leaned in, faint notes of a good smelling cologne, covered by the scent of rain and wet earth.
“I’m doing good, what are you guys up to?” She could feel her cheeks flushing warm. Trying to not focus on how close he was to her. It wasn’t extreme but it was enough to get her heart pounding nervously.
“Just picking up a few things before we clock in for work. Evening shifts” Paul stated as Leah scanned curiously over y/n's car. Peering through the back windows to see what was inside. “Uh—” y/n said confused as Leah peered inside close to Paul.
“Where you headed after this?” Leah asked making y/n feel on edge suddenly. Paul stood back and crossed his arms glaring at Leah. Y/n hesitated briefly “I'm going home after this. I gotta check on Kim” her answer seemed to satisfy the two of them as they nodded in agreement.
“Good. It’s best you do” Leah insisted as she leaned back from the car window. “Be careful of your surroundings when you're going inside later. There's been a few cougar sightings recently—” Leah said before getting cut off.
“Is that why we seen the cops flying past here earlier?” Seth interrupted as he ran from inside the house to them. Shoving his self in between Leah and Paul to face y/n. The two looked at each other annoyed before becoming serious.
“What cops Seth?” Paul asked as Seth continued on nonchalantly. “Me and her were on our way here when we passed by two. Both were from forks headed south bound” Seth described as Paul looked at y/n for reassurance. Nodding her head “it’s true they had the lights on and everything” she insisted making Leah and Paul look at one another.
“Y/n” Paul said in a low calm voice before leaning down to see her eye to eye. “Drive straight home later and make sure you girls stay home tonight” he commanded, and although y/n wanted to refute him, the look in his eyes told her otherwise.
“Where is Kim actually?” Leah asked as y/n shrugged her shoulders. “Last she said she was waiting at home for me. I still have to go into town to pick up our takeout” y/n answered as she re-read Kim's last text on her phone.
Paul looked slightly worried at her. Even though it seemed he was trying to disguise it. Something didn't feel right to y/n in the slightest. Now seeing these two in duress made her spiral in her mind even more.
“Is there something going on?” Y/n insisted making the two straighten their posture. “No of course not just… looking out for you” Paul slightly hesitated but the words comforted her. “Awe well that's sweet of you both.. But I'll be safe on my own I swear. It’s just a quick trip into town and then home” y/n insisted.
“Thanks for bringing my brother back. But next time you don't need to bother” Leah said making Seth make a face at her. So did y/n as she was taken back by her words. “Wha—?” He pouted as Paul snapped his head at him.
“What do we keep telling you?! You can't keep fighting in school. Next time we'll make sure your ass walks home” he practically hissed and y/n could swear Seth looked like a hurt puppy. Even y/n was surprised at how stern they were on him.
“Isn't that pretty harsh though?” She questioned trying to help Seth out. The two looked at her before back at Seth. “No” they said in perfect unison which intimidated y/n. They seemed so similar now that she was around them more.
Seth held his head down before heading inside. Embarrassed by the twos behaviour he stormed off. His obvious urge to slam the door was stopped by Leah's intense glare. Sighing deeply she paused to recollect herself.
“Really y/n I appreciate you looking out for him. But I don't want him getting used to you giving him favours” Leah insisted making y/n feel offended.
“Me?—”
“Seth is way too used to being babied— Him and the other boys. I've been trying to teach him to have some control and self reliance. Now he’s gonna try and use you as a scapegoat—” Leah continued to lecture her as both y/n and Paul were surprised by Leah’s behavior.
“Me? A scapegoat?—”
“Yes exactly”
“Jesus Leah” Paul said as y/n felt on edge suddenly. All y/n tried to do was a good deed, help one of her friends out, that was all. So to be met with a hard lecture from someone she was eager to see? Pissed her off in all the wrong ways more than she thought.
Gripping her hands on the wheel she bit her tongue to hold herself back. Not seeing how clenched Paul's own fists were. Or how his teeth were clenched tight as well.
“Well I just need her to know this is a bad idea. He shouldn’t be getting used to free rides” Leah continued on with no remorse it seemed to her. “Leah—” Paul spoke up before immediately getting taking over by y/n. She whipped her head at Leah to stand her ground.
“Well he helped me haul all my stuff so I figured I owed him at least one ride alright?Jesus besides you're the one crying about being careful of cougar sightings. Why would you want your little brother walking alone that far?”
She practically spat out earning a surprised look from the two. Leah stood stunned at y/n's reaction not expecting her sudden outburst. Mouth open slightly she must’ve realized her own sour attitude. Paul stood with a smug demeanour.
“Well I gotta head out. Just drive safe and go straight home. Okay?” Paul insisted once more with a pleading look in his eyes. Trusting him and his heed she nodded. Heading inside to join Seth Paul left to avoid the awkward tension and leave the two alone.
Y/n realized she just had an outburst in front of not only Paul but Leah too. Sighing deeply she hung her head low thinking of Paul’s smug look. It was her first time acting in such a way in front of Leah so she sat nervous awaiting her reaction.
“Sorry y/n I didn't mean to sound so bitchy about Seth or to you. It's just… Ugh I'm at the end of my rope with him” Leah sighed running a hand through her soft black hair. Y/n sat quiet for a moment before letting her tight grip on the wheel go.
“The reason why I’m so upset is because he has detention today until at least four thirty to five pm today” Leah confessed as y/n instantly regretted her actions. “Oh god” she sighed as she looked up at Leah apologetically. “No it’s okay there’s no way you could’ve known” she tried to comfort y/n “I see why you’d be upset at me though ugh” y/n groaned at her mistake.
“But you're right about giving him a ride home. There are cougar sightings and I appreciate you looking out for him. I wouldn’t be surprised if he went back on the bus again if you weren’t there. I'll be there to pick him up from now on—”
“Leah it’s okay I get things have been stressful lately. So take it easy on yourself. Okay? You’re a great sister to him. He’s just a young shit ass that’s all. None of them listen no matter who says what” y/n could sense the stress rolling off her. Becoming more understanding and kind once she apologized.
Leah stood for a moment as she softly smiled and nodded. “Thanks… I think that's all I needed to hear. The guys—especially Paul try their best with him. And with me but” Leah said shrugging her shoulders. Y/n giggled slightly as Leah looked at her with an apologetic look.
“Serious y/n I'm sorry for bitching at you harshly”
“Leah I'm okay I can handle it and I know you're stressed out right now. I made a mistake today too what with my attitude and saving your brother from punishment. Do you think I’m gonna go home and pout?” Y/n teased finally making Leah break into a smile. “No but I know who would definitely pout” she pointed to the house making them laugh out loud.
“Leah it’s alright so don't sweat it. I’ll talk to you later?” y/n asked as Leah nodded in agreement. “Yeah I'll check in with you later” she waved before y/n pulled out of the driveway heading back home.
The deadline for the mural was coming quick. Now that the principal and faculty wanted it done sooner. They all wanted to do a big unveiling with chief and council, their only free slot was within the next week, so it meant overtime for y/n. Even going far as to paying a rush fee so she couldn't slack.
Y/n had to work in the evenings now which made her on edge. What with all the cougar and now more recently bear sightings. She didn’t want to wear headphones after the kids left school. In case anyone tried to do anything to her. The school park was known for vagrant behavior after hours.
It's been awhile since she seen anyone outside of Kim and Leah, she hasn't even seen Emily and the rest of the gang, it's been over 2 weeks since any sight of them. Well almost three weels but who was counting? All claim they're busy working mainly dealing with whatever sightings of the next big animal.
Even Maislyn was missing from the school. The people who knew of her said she was constantly away from home. So no one really knew where she was most of the time. It did worry y/n since she somehow got used to her visits.
Maislyn wasn't the only one to go slightly missing. There were other kids of the school who weren’t showing up like they did. Strange sightings of them in the woods were talked about. When they were in school they'd wear hoodies to cover their faces tightly. Adamantly wearing them even on warmer days.
From what Emily told her during lunch breaks, there was a wide investigation into the lives of these kids after school, especially with kids like Maislyn. An initiative to try and get more kids back into school.
Coming back from lunch she headed up to the mural. There she could see Maislyn sitting against a tree nearby with her eyes tightly closed. Upon closer look y/n could see she was sweating profusely but shivering cold.
“Hey Maislyn. Long time no see” y/n greeted making the girl flinch harshly. Confused by her startled reaction she watched Maislyn closely. “Hi” she weakly greeted making y/n worry.
“Something wrong? You look a little pale” y/n examined her further until the girl snapped her eyes and scrambled to get up. “I'm fine. I just didn't sleep well” Maislyn blankly stated ignoring her own obviously poor state.
Maislyn's hood was off for once, her neck was slightly covered by her hair, but not enough to cover the patch she had on. Secured by medical tape y/n gasped seeing such a sight.
The girl instantly threw on her hood and brushed her hair to her sides. A lame attempt to hide what looked like fresh wounds. “Are you ok?” Y/n asked making the girl nervous as she nodded her head profusely. “Of course I'm ok” y/n watched as she continued to shiver and coldly sweat.
“Did you eat lunch? Or did you need me to get someone? You seem really pale at least let me check your temperature” y/n offered but it only made Maislyn on edge more. She reached out to help her but she only made her flinch.
Standing up she was off balance backing away from y/n. “Jeez I swear I'm fine! Alright? See you” Maislyn said practically running away from the scene.
“Maislyn!—” Y/n attempted to call out before letting out a defeated sigh. Deciding to head to the front desk she told one of the teachers of the situation. At least notify the faculty of the incident. They stated that they've been calling her household to no avail about her attendance already.
They would make another phone call per y/n’s request. But there wouldn't be a guarantee they'd get the message. One of the teachers mentioned to y/n they were close to getting CPS involved.
The day passed and with no sight of Maislyn, even going as far as to ask Seth once more about her, she gave up on checking in. But the thought of her neck patch kept her in a dark place. Placing her anxieties into a passion for working hard.
The next day there was still no sight of her. Y/n felt so hopeless about the situation, what she could do, didn't amount to anything. All she could do was bury herself in work.
Brushing mindlessly she worked over the wall deep in thought. Not noticing how the kids already left school grounds. Eventually even the schools staff left for the day and she still didn't pause for moment.
Thats when the lights around the school suddenly turned on. She hadn't ever stayed this long in the evening. Which made y/n panic stopping immediately. Realizing what type of mistake she just made.
She began to hurridly pack her things, she didn't even realize how dark it had gotten, it made her nervous knowing she was alone. Just like she manifested instant trouble she could hear something.
Sobbing could be heard from a distance, scanning around she couldn't see anyone, but the cries were close. “Hello?!” Y/n yelled out hearing her own voice bounce back from the mountains. A moment passed and the cries started to echo again.
“He—lp m—e!” She heard someone barely get clear out clearly. Making y/n feel worried more than anything. Something in her gut told her to investigate.
Jumping off her scaffolding she immediately followed after the noise. Loud wails and sobbing echoed through the trees as y/n hurridly pushed through the bush. “Where are you?!” Hello?!” Y/n continued to call out.
Hearing a choking and coughing noise she followed it. She could hear someone was hyperventilating the more she came close. Coming to a clearing lay a hurt Maislyn who clutched her neck.
“Wha—?”
“Help me!” Maislyn choked out lifting her hands from her neck to reveal blood gushing out from a punctured hole. Y/n rushed and fell to her knees to apply pressure. Pressing hard on her neck Maislyn kept crying looking terrified.
“Ah!” Y/n exclaimed unable to stop the bleeding. Ripping a piece of her shirt she placed it in her wound. Eventually wrapping another piece tightly around. “What happened?!” Y/n questioned making Maislyn try and collect herself.
“Her” was all she could choke out as she weakly pointed to the right. Turning her head to see a silently crying Renesmee who's mouth was bloody. It sent straight shivers down her spine. “I— I didn't —” Renesmee sobbed out as she stared at her own bloody hands.
“What did you do?! Bite her?!” y/n yelled as she continued to apply pressure on Maislyn's neck. “Yes” Maislyn cried out as she lay weakly instead of crying loudly like she was.
Now that the blood stopped gushing y/n looked across Maislyn's neck. Noticing other healed puncture wounds, all in the form of human bite marks, even on Maislyn's arms there were bites. It made sense why she was so covered up constantly in hoodies.
“I just—I don't know what happened—”
“You bit her!”
Renesmee stood crying and confused as she profusely shook her head. “Maislyn I'm so sorry” she pleaded as Maislyn's energy depleted with every second, y/n began to panic as she scrambled for her phone, but before she could Renesmee stepped forward.
“Back away!” Y/n cried out as she fiercely protected Maislyn who's eyes were fluttering close. “Shit!” She exclaimed slapping the sides of Maislyn's face to keep her awake. The phone slipping from her hands from the blood making it slippery.
“I didn’t mean to I swear! Maislyn please!” Renesmee sobbed as y/n could hear her stomach rumbling loudly. “I—I” She clutched her stomach like it was painful. Glaring up at y/n Renesmee heaved with heavy breaths.
“I swear all I wanted was to be your friend! Anyone's friend!” Renesmee screamed out as she started to heave and huff angrily. Y/n felt frozen as she watched Renesmee shake with what she couldn't tell was rage or sadness.
“Renesmee?” She questioned as Renesmee clasped her hands to her face. “They can't be right they just can't be” Was all y/n could barely make out as she mumbled and grunted to herself. Focusing her attention on the cold still Maislyn, she checked her pulse, it was faint and she was getting paler by the minute.
“Why didn't you want to be my friend y/n? This would've never happened if you just let me be your friend!”
“How is this my fault? I hardly even know about you let alone know you! You're the one who bit the shit out of this poor girl!” This seemed to upset Renesmee more as she cried into herself.
“All I wanted was to explain everything to you. Since the moment we met. That's all I want to do! That's the least you deserve” she said making y/n pause for a moment. “What do you mean everything—” y/n was cut off by the sound of Renesmee's loud groans.
“I don't know how they can do this. I tried. I tried so hard! It’s not enough” Renesmee cried out as her breathing picked up and she started to pant. Closing her eyes tightly shut before looking up at y/n and Maislyn.
“I'm sorry… I-I'm so sorry it's just— I'm starving. So starving” Renesmee's stomach growled with a deep hunger even y/n could sense. But she could also tell how much pain she was feeling with each passing stomach rumble.
Locking eyes with her all y/n could focus on was how dark they were. Like a black hole pulling her in she was stuck in place. Every instinct telling her to flee, but she wouldn't abandon Maislyn, Renesmee resembled a wild animal ready to lunge and devour her whole.
Y/n didnt even have the time to flinch before a huge gray wolf came rushing out the bushes. Standing in front of the two fiercely in a defensive stance. Renesmee gasped and lost her footing stumbling back before catching her self.
Y/n sat with widened eyes trying to figure out if this was truly happening. The wolf growled in a low tone as it lowered its self in front of the two of them. She couldn't believe the sheer size of the beast as her heart raced.
Renesmee’s face contorted into an upset look as her eyebrows furrowed down. “You can't hurt me and you know it” she taunted as the wolf growled louder. Snarling and barring it's teeth the two were in a stand off.
Y/n wondered if she and Maislyn were on the menu, a fight to decide who gets what part of them, frozen in fear y/n sat clenching Maislyn's hand. All she knew was that she couldn't move a muscle. And that at least she would die along side this sweet girl.
With a loud banshee cry echoing out of Renesmee’s mouth, y/n curled into a ball covering her ears, the wolf leaned back and growled deep. The two collided in the air faster than y/n could even react. All she could hear was loud snarling, Renesmee's voice as she struggled, and how intense the wolf basically rag dolled her. Tossed to the side Renesmee laid where she landed still.
The wolf followed her and stood over her examining with it's nose. Even going as far as to nudge Renesmee's body. Still warm and breathing but passed out from the collision.
Letting out the breath she could no longer hold in y/n watched the wolf turn it's head to her. Her heart instantly raced as she decided between fight or flight. It's eyes fierce and wild with intentions she couldn't handle.
Gritting her teeth she stood her ground and locked eyes with the beast. Waiting for adrenaline to rush over her, maybe she'd able to do something, anything to defend herself. The wolf stepped forward making her shut her eyes out of reaction.
A beat passed and she sat awaiting, until she could hear rustling in the bushes, sensing the rumbling of the ground it took off in the opposite direction. Holding her breath until she realized it had left.
The tension in her body became increased as she turned to Maislyn. Her body colder than it was earlier but the pulse was steady. Faint but albeit she was alive as y/n focused on where her phone was.
Thinking of who to call she debated on who first. Police or Security? Or maybe even Quil he would know what to do. Y/n didn't realize how terrified she was as her hands shook with fear. Tears welling up she could hear loud foot steps of someone steadily coming to her.
Grabbing the nearest stone she armed her self. Whipping around she raised her arm in defense. “Woah woah woah! Y/n it's me” Paul came running out of the clearing.
He wore denim pants, a t-shirt, and a black jacket as he came up to her. Already confused and bombarded by this whole situation this pushed her to the brink. Her mind racing a million miles a minute.
“Paul? Wha—?” she said as he came up to her immediately grabbing and disarming her. Kneeling he held her hand and brought it to his side. Y/n was gasping for air at this point from how in shock she was.
“Hey it's alright I swear it's all over now” Paul said in a low soothing voice as y/n steadily calmed her breathing. Feeling the warmth of his hand spreading throughout the rest of her body. Her hand relaxed as he finally tossed the stone away from them.
“Paul? What just?—”
“I know, I know this is all crazy, but I swear I'll explain everything” he assured hands on the sides of her shoulders. He looked away down at her neck and chest intensely.
“You're not hurt anywhere are you? Anything at all? Did that girl bite you?” Paul scanned her as he firmly grabbed her wrists. Twisting them gently to examine close. “No I'm not hurt or bit. I was just working— Then suddenly I heard screaming. I came and found her like this” she explained in a rushed manner.
Turning away from her he focused his attention onto Maislyn. Making her snap back to the reality of the situation. The despair swirling in the pool of her guts.
He checked her wrist for her pulse, then her neck, before listening to her chest how steadily her breathing was. “We need to get her to help quickly. You did good bandaging her wounds the way you did” Paul assured.
His eyes lingered on the part of her stomache that showed. From when she ripped her shirt for bandaging. Taking off his black jacket Paul wrapped it around y/n.
The scent of him calmed her immensely and made her focus on reality. “Smart thinking. Now y/n I need you to trust and focus on me. We need to leave right now. Follow me” was all he said as she quickly closed the jacket on herself.
As he went to get Maislyn ready to grab off the ground y/n could see Renesmee. She lay still and beautiful as ever like a princess in a deep slumber. Only the blood and dirt on her clothes shattered the illusion.
“What about her? Is she dead?” She questioned as Paul didn't even bother to look at Renesmee. “They'll get her” he simply stated as she furrowed her eyebrows in confusion. “I'll call 911 we can get them both help right away” she stated looking for her phone.
He simply placed a gentle hand on her wrist before shaking his head. “The cops won't come. Even if they do they can't help us. Right now we need to focus on getting you two help. That thing will get help as this girl will. It just won't be from us” Paul stated firmly.
Sam and Embry came out of the shadows as if Paul summoned them himself. They began to examine her just as Paul did to Maislyn. Who was currently picking up and holding her bridal style.
“Come with me” Paul commanded as he waited for her to get up. Even going as far as to offer a hand while still holding Maislyn. She nodded and took his hand getting up swiftly.
The two stepped out the bushes and rushed down the path. Y/n was completely stunned by everything happening so far. Paul was going so fast it was hard to keep up with him. But he lingered behind and constantly checked that y/n was close.
As much as y/n desperately wanted to drill Paul with questions, she knew it wasn't the time at all, and that she should focus on Maislyn's survival only.
Everything in her knew fully well what Renesmee could be. But she just didn’t want to even think something like vampires could be real. It was making her spiral into a dark place as her vision began to tunnel inward.
“Y/n? Y/n focus I need you to focus. Sit with her in the back I’ll drive where are your keys?” he asked making her toss them to him. Sitting in the back she had Maislyn's head on her lap.
“Just keep her steady, I know this is all scary, but just trust that I'll handle everything from here on. Okay?” Paul insisted. Usually at any other point y/n would hate a man being this pushy and demanding. But this was the energy she needed right now to focus.
“I trust you Paul. But I just need to know what the hell is Renesmee? A cannibal? And what even was that wolf? It was huge! Please tell me you have even the slightest clue on what's going on here” Y/n asked stroking Maislyn's hair nervously.
Paul sat in silence for a moment, speeding at a pace y/n never felt before, hands gripping the wheel tight. His head rested right up against the seat.
“She’s a vampire” he stated once again simple as ever. She scoffed until she met his eyes through the rear view mirror. The serious tension in his face said it all.
“I knew it! I knew it… I just didn't want to believe it” she tried to choke down the fear rising up. But her grandfathers stories came flashing back to her, his words and voice, right down to what she imagined of the so called “cold ones”
Thinking of the book she recently read before Quil took it from her. Everything snapped into place until Paul swerved perfectly onto a familiar dirt road. They were headed to Leah and Seth's house somehow.
“Hey! This isn't the way to the hospital!”
“I never said we were going to the hospital”
“I thought you said we were gonna get her help?!”
“We are!”
He argued as he basically did a drift into the parking lot. Sue and Leah were already waiting outside as they rushed to the car. ‘What the fuck’ y/n thought visibly upset as Leah opened the car door. She didn’t even have time to say anything before Leah carried away Maislyn.
Carrying her upstairs to one of the bedrooms. Sue gave out clear commands as they rushed off inside. The two women began to talk about what to do next. Paul opened the door for y/n “let's go” he offered his hand once more. Grabbing it the two rushed inside behind Maislyn up the stairs.
“Jesus how many times did she bite her” Leah said as Maislyn laid on the bed cut out of and stripped of her hoodie. Her figure was smaller than y/n realized, she had bite marks on her wrists and neck, some were healed but the ones on her neck were fresh.
“I've counted at least 10 so far” Sue stated as she examined Maislyn's eyes with a flash light. “I have no choice we need to call the ambulance. She’s lost a lot of blood. I don't have access to any blood banks” Sue explained making Paul and Leah immediately dismiss her.
“Exactly how are we going to explain this to the doctors there? They'll call both cops and CPS on this girl with bites like this”
“You know we can't do that mom”
The two rambled on what the best option was as Sue looked at the two. She wore a sorrowful look making the two shake their head. “Don't say it” Paul said as y/n watched all of this go on by where she stood against the wall.
“We need to call Dr. Cullen” Sue stated as a deep silence fell over the room. Paul huffed angrily before storming away. Rushing down the stairs to the front entrance. Slamming the front door open and closed abruptly. Leah sighed deeply as she agreed with her mom.
“I'll contact Jacob and get him to make all this shit happen. He owes us” Leah sighed as she pulled out her phone. Walking away downstairs to head into the dining room for privacy. Y/n stood looking at Maislyn shaking with fear, stress, and everything in between.
“That was quick thinking of you to rip your shirt off for this girl” Sue stated as she smiled softly at her. Y/n looked up at her with a blank look before snapping out of it.
“Oh… Yeah I guess it was quick”
“It’s given this girl some time. In fact you saved her”
Although it was obvious Sue was trying to comfort her y/n felt so hopeless. Accepting the reality of vampires being real, she struggled with the reality of being hunted like prey, were they targeting natives because crimes against them go under the radar? And what would Maislyn’s life be like after this ordeal?
Struggling to face the reality of everything at hand. Sue must’ve noticed as she glided over to her. Calmly wrapping one comforting arm around y/n. “And for you I think I'll call your grandmother. There's a lot to explain and it'll be better for you to hear it from her” This instantly perked up y/n's spirit. Already feeling relieved thinking of her grandmothers comforting hugs.
“Really? Thank you because my phone is—” she gripped it as it was covered in blood. The two paused to look at it before Sue gently pushed the phone down.
“I'll get Leah to get you a change of clothes. I'm sure we have something in your size until you go home” The two headed out to the hallway. Going to find Leah in the house somewhere. Paul suddenly came back inside holding the door open unintentionally.
“Stay inside” he demanded as the two looked at him confused. Over his shoulder they could see three figures standing tall in the middle of the driveway. Y/n eyes widened as she felt chills shiver down her spine.
All of them were stunningly beautiful, they seemed chiseled out of stone by Michelangelo his self, unrealistically gorgeous y/n knew instantly that they were vampires.
End of chapter 5 with a first look at the Cullens. I wonder if y’all can guess who will be making a surprise appearance next chapter? Again apologies for such long waits in between updates. Idk if anyone knows but I update this on Ao3 also, and I swear the Ao3 curse finally got to me, I fell down a flight of stairs over a month ago. Long story short I injured my wrist (nothing broken or fractured just sprained) so it delayed everything in my life for a few weeks. Including my job which I focused more on than this sadly. Tbh I’m just lucky I didn’t die from the fall bc it was pretty fast 😭
Also idk where the name “Maislyn” came from but personally, living on a rez you come across names with a lot of “something-lyn”, “something-ie”, “something-Marie”, definitely a lot of interesting names. (I know someone named Magejkyl pronounced as magical…) so it felt fitting to make the character more real to me. I know the wait times are long but TRUST I don’t plan on dropping this fic. This has technically been in the making since like 2020? I had an earlier version of this story which is still available. But point and case being I plan to continue until this is finished. Stay tuned for more in the future 🫶

CHAPTER 1
>> CHP 2
Y/N did not expect her life to turn out the way it has. She led a normal life, as normal one can be, at the age of twenty one. Like most her age she was confused on what she wanted in life. What she knew was she wanted to be an artist. That’s something she always knew.
At the start of the year her grandfather Quil Ateara III passed unexpectedly. It was a huge loss for not only her family but the community of La Push. Y/n’s home reservation, where her grandfather had served on council for many years, a well respected elder.
As If any of it wasn’t enough for y/n the family decided to read his will. Discovering he had left her with the estate and property under her name. Yet it was never brought it up to her in their many visits. Shocking the whole family it caused an uproar.
Her own mother was surprised at this news. Everyone figured he’d leave everything to at least one of his children. Her grandmother Molly was the only one not surprised. Instead she ensured that y/n would move in by the end of the season. And that no one could argue since it was her husbands will.
Even if it was passed onto her mother, or her many uncles and aunts, no one wanted to uproot their lives to live in the house. In fact the family was ready and planning to sell the house. Deciding to split the money between everyone and cut their losses on the property. But her grandparents wouldn’t have any of it happen.
And so it was y/n was on her way to her “new” house. Her grandmother Molly had already moved in to her sisters home. As a way of keeping an eye on each other now that they’re both older.
For y/n it was all so fast but an opportunity would never come like this again. For she had been desperate for a place on her own. A studio apartment wasn’t an ideal space for someone who loved, well, space.
It was a three story house with a wrap around porch. Fit with five bedrooms and one bathroom. As she drove y/n thought of how expensive and difficult it could get to maintain such a house. But she figured she’d at least try before trying to get a roommate.
Although it was all new and quite stressful to think of. Y/n was excited to be back in her beloved home of La Push. She had only visited a few times throughout each year. And as of late she hadn’t been around much with life catching up to her.
Driving down the same old roads she couldn’t help but feel nostalgic. How many summers she spent here and what good memories were made. The scenery was always something y/n favoured especially the tall beautiful pine trees.
Despite the constant downpour of rain it made y/n happy. Even just the smell of rain and dirt made her smile. It was a moment y/n wanted to savour for herself, entering the reservation, it felt like she never left.
The road was wet from soft rain throughout the day. The clouds blocking the sun from shining. Looking at the sides of the road the hairs on her neck suddenly spiked. A weird feeling in her gut began to twist and turn.
As she looked on each sides of the road it felt eerie. Although she drove down familiar roads it didn’t feel right. As if there were eyes peering a hole in the back of her neck. Rubbing the spot in comfort she tried shaking off the unsettling feeling.
After all she was stressed and tired after a long drive she convinced herself. Upon seeing the house she was relieved. Her grandma was supposed to be here before her. But her car wasn’t parked in the driveway.
Parked in the car y/n sat awaiting for either the eerie feeling to go away or for her grandmother to arrive. As she sat and decided, she noticed in the window stacks of boxes, she had sent her stuff beforehand. With the help of her cousins they moved everything inside.
Impatient and no longer anxious she got out of the car. The property has a clear and neat tree line. The backyard was a huge open field filled with wild flowers. Although at the moment it was still too early in the spring for such flowers. The field sat in colours of yellows and browns.
Y/n searched around the area in case of anything. Taking a short moment to look. With nothing around she headed inside. Deciding to unpack until her grandma arrived. She grabbed the rest of her belongings from the trunk.
Sure enough It didn’t take long for her grandma to pull up in the driveway. As y/n headed outside to meet her she felt even more relief. Seeing the soft smile on her grandma’s face brought her comfort.
“My girl! You’re finally home” she said into her neck as they hugged tightly. “Yep! Finally home for good” y/n replied holding onto her grandmothers hands. The two headed inside to catch up with one another.
Her grandmother Molly and her were always close no matter the distance. In times of need she always called her for advice. To be living more close to her was a blessing in itself.
“I would’ve been here long time ago but I had a meeting. It ran longer than it was supposed to” Grandma Molly took her grandfathers place on council once he passed. As she felt it was her responsibility to him and the community. The people had also unanimously agreed for her to take the position.
“It’s alright grandma it gave me extra time to unpack” which was mainly just her clothes. Scanning the room over the endless boxes her grandma fussed over y/n.
“There’s plenty of time for you to do that. Now that you’re home” her grandma smiled warmly once more. “You’re right but it’s just I need groceries” y/n replied as she looked around the fridge.
“I left you plenty of dry goods in the cabinets. But I took what was in the fridge and freezer. I figured we’d go now and shop for something more fresh” y/n wasn’t surprised at her grandmas smart and thoughtful thinking.
Agreeing the two stepped out of the house. Only to be met with the arrival of her cousin Quil Ateara V. Pulling up in his black truck he wore a cheeky grin. Immediately he stepped out and rushed in for a hug.
Quil was another one of her cousins she grew up close with. Besides herself Quil was close with their grandparents. Majority of the family relied on Quil and his help. It comforted y/n to know she’d see him more often now.
“Good to see you sis” he said as the two pulled away from each other. “You too! I was gonna text you but I’m glad to see you! I’ve been meaning to thank you for the help. Moving the furniture for me was a huge help for real”
“Easy work. If you need anything just let me know” Quil was always cocky and loved to tease. He could be serious when needed to. It was something y/n somehow missed in their time apart. Although she knew that behaviour was bound to wear on her. For now she was enjoying the moment.
“We were just going into town. What are you up to?” Grandma Molly asked Quil. Shrugging his shoulders he replied “Not much just about to stop in at the house. Wanted to see if this girl was home yet or not” he smiled as he nudged y/n’s shoulder.
Y/n smiled before an idea popped into her head. “How about the three of us eat dinner? On me? I’m famished and I do owe the both of you” she replied as the two agreed. “You don’t owe us anything we’re family” Grandma Molly assured y/n as the two walked to the car. “But I will take you on that offer” she joked making the other two laugh.
“Well I have my truck so I’ll meet you girls where?” Quil asked whilst twirling his keys. The three threw out suggestions. Grandma Molly and Quil ended up squabbling over which place to eat.
“How about Carver’s? Y’know I haven’t been there in ages” y/n suggested trying to end the arguments. It worked as everyone agreed. Y/n and her grandma went together as Quil followed in his truck behind. The drive was short but eventful. As grandma Molly continued to give her an update on everyone in the reserve.
Somewhere behind them Quil had veered off the path. But y/n knew he would eventually come behind. Vouching to get a table without him until he came the two headed inside. As y/n held the door open for her grandmother, before she could enter, a man rushed to hold open the door.
“Here I got it” the man said, he stood tall way over six feet and was obviously Quileute, despite cold weather he wore only a long sleeve shirt. Y/n briefly looked at him before a surprise walked through the door.
“Y/n? Grandma Molly? Oh my god! It is true you’re finally home!” Out rushing was her cousin Kim Conweller. She grew up with her close, the two were always together, but recent years they’ve been in and out of touch. The bond between them has never faded.
Growing up Kim, Quil, and y/n were close as a trio. They were the eldest out of their cousins. It had been awhile since the three of them were under one roof. Y/n felt overjoyed at her so far warm welcomes from everyone she’s seen.
The two hugged tightly albeit y/n was surprised. “Kim! Hi yes I’m home for good now! I’m glad to run into you” she smiled as Kim gushed. “Grandma here told me a few weeks ago you were moving down. I wasn’t sure if you actually were but here you are!” Kim gushed with a bright smile.
Y/n smiled back before looking up at the man who held the door. Who stared down at y/n, with curious eyes, it felt like the two somehow knew each other. Kim took notice and nervously laughed clutching onto his arm.
“Sorry y/n you caught me off guard. This is my boyfriend Jared Cameron and this is my cousin y/n“ Kim introduced the two as Jared reached out for a handshake. When she did he wore a welcoming grin holding a firm grip on her hand. It was almost like it burned to touch him with how warm he was y/n thought.
She had heard of Kim speak of Jared when they talked. Even when he was nothing more than a high school crush to Kim. But y/n never knew anything more than his name and who his family was. She has always been curious as to who he really was.
“Great to meet you y/n I heard a lot about you from Kim” Jared said as he stood beside Kim. Making y/n look at Kim with an eyebrow raised. “Hopefully she didn’t say too much” she joked as the rest of them laughed slightly.
Before Kim answered she gave a quick glance to Jared. Then with a bright smile she replied “Of course not! I’ve just been excited to know you’re back home. It’ll be nice to have a close girlfriend around” Kim said as it was true.
Y/n was the only girl she knew who was into feminine interests. Such as beauty, fashion, and everything in between. When these two meet it was always a blast.
“Yeah me too I’m glad to have seen you Kim. You should stop by the house this week. Once I get more settled in” y/n offered. After all it’d be great to have a visitor or a helper to unpack. It’s been long enough since it was just the two of them.
“Yeah of course just send me a text. Well we better get going it looks like we’re holding up the door here” Kim said as more people pulled up to eat at the diner. As they all started to leave Quil finally arrived. As he got out of the car he rushed up to the group.
“Hey bro” Quil said as he walked up to greet Jared. Who wore a smile bright as Kim’s when they briefly hugged. “Hey~, I’ll see you at the house, alright?” Was all that was exchanged as Quil gave a nod in response. The couple leaving in Jared’s truck.
‘Wait what house?’ Y/n thought as Quil ushered them inside. Sitting down it was a quaint dinner between the three of them. It felt familiar and refreshing for the three of them. The last few months darkened by the death of Quil Atera III.
The three talked about everything going on in each others lives. How their grandma worried about them and their future. Willing to help in anyway she can. Quil’s silly jokes and stories entertained them throughout the evening.
Finishing up their dinner they got it ready to take home. As it was getting dark Quil offered to take their grandmother home. Quil said “You need to catch up on your rest sis. Really it’s no problem” y/n knew she couldn’t argue.
As she looked up ready to leave she seen two people coming through the door. First to walk in was a girl with long soft auburn curls, skin that was beautifully pale and somehow glowing, her features were delicate and pretty.
Her beauty took the breath away from y/n. For she didn’t look like she was real more like a doll. It was hard to believe someone could look so ethereal.
Behind her came a tall man with broad shoulders. He was also tall dark and handsome, another obvious Quileute man, wearing a leather jacket. The two gave off such a powerful impression it was almost unreal as they stood together. His eyes were fierce but dark as he looked over at their table.
Quil took notice from the look y/n had on her face. Turning around his heart dropped into his stomach. The two men looked at one another with disbelief. “Jacob” he said rising from his chair, this earned a smile from the man, who y/n assumed was Jacob.
“Brother” was all Jacob said as the two collided into a tight hug. Holding each other for a moment. As the two broke away Jacob patted Quil’s shoulders. The fierce look in Jacob’s eyes faded away.
“I thought—“ Quil tried to speak before getting cut off. “We’re back home” Jacob said as he looked directly into his eyes holding Quil’s shoulders to keep him in place. They shared a brief moment together before Quil nodded. His lips tightened into a stern expression.
“Hi” the girl said with a voice so sweet and alluring. Taking away her focus it was all drawn in suddenly on the mysterious girl. “I’m Renesmee” She answered earning a smile from Y/n. “Hey my names y/n” Renesmee’s smile was so welcoming.
It felt like y/n was being drawn towards her more and more with each passing second. She was definitely being enchanted by her and her eyes. They were a shade of colour close to her hair, an almost honey brown, y/n and her eyes were locked. As the girl reached towards y/n to shake her hand Quil came quickly to her side.
Jacob suddenly put a gentle hand on Renesmee’s shoulder. Breaking eye contact it was like y/n snapped out of it, as if she wasn’t breathing before, she sucked the air back into her lungs. Leaning on Quil for support briefly. He looked down at her with concern.
“We were just getting a bite to eat me and her. I’ll stop by once I drop this girl off home” he told Quil as he cocked his head in response. “Back home already? Huh… Alright—” Taking a moment to rub y/n’s arm in support. He nodded as he grabbed his jacket and Grandma Molly’s arm.
“We have to get going” Quil said cutting the meeting short. “I have to get my grandmother home” he said as their grandmother tried to argue she wasn’t tired. Y/n was still trying to get a grip on herself. Feeling Renesmee burning a hole into her neck.
“I’ll be by later. I need to talk with Sam and the others” Jacob said with the serious look in his eye back. Quil nodded and as he turned y/n noticed the look on his face. As if he was slightly panicked trying to keep calm.
Grandma Molly silently placed her hand over Quil’s. Giving a firm but soft squeeze to reassure him. Quil’s posture softened, the three of them watching the two leave, y/n noticed how the energy of Quil and grandma Molly changed.
Y/n didnt want to bother the two and ask what was up. She felt it wasn’t appropriate instead deciding to just say goodnight to the both of them. As the two sped off in the opposite direction of grandma Molly’s house.
As she drove home she tried to calm her unsettled nerves. Reneesme was so enchanting and enticing, it was like she wanted to just submit to her, whatever she asked. It made y/n uncomfortable with how willing she truly was.
Trying to avert her focus she turned the music up and chalked it up to sleep deprivation. Maybe even anxiety but in reality y/n couldn’t put a finger on it. Who ever Reneesme was she was unworldly y/n thought before falling asleep.
As the week progressed y/n settled into her house and tried to figure out a routine. Which ended up just becoming eating, sleeping, unpacking, more unpacking, etc. A bit of shopping in between.
Already tired of her routine she wondered what type of social life there is out here. And when would she be able to find new friends. Her and Kim had been texting with each other frequently. Quil as well but both have been too busy to stop by.
It was still an adjustment living alone in such a big house. Didn’t help that every time she went places, like the grocery store, shopping for the house, she’d get that eerie feeling again. It wasn’t anxiety that was a feeling she was accustomed to.
For her it felt like being watched weirdly enough. Y/n had been shaking it off as moving in jitters. But in the back of her mind the thought of it all sat there. She didn’t feel afraid but more unnerved, feeling the back of her neck hairs raise, as if she needed to be alert.
Sometimes before bed, in her bedroom there was a windowsill to sit on, some nights she’d just gaze out into the tree line. Looking up at the moon in all it’s beauty. It was one of the only ways to soothe her nerves as of late.
All of it made her wish for a roommate some days. Living alone out in an open field was unnerving enough. But when she’d leave that’s when the feeling would arise. She wondered if it was spirits but the house was already cleansed thanks to her grandma Molly.
Randomly Kim arrived that weekend, unannounced but most welcome, y/n was wondering when she would come. “Wow you’ve already made the place your own huh” she said impressed with how she decorated. Definitely a change from the usual way it stayed for years.
“Yeah well I’ll be here for who knows how long” Y/n said as the two sat in the living room. The two talking about what each other missed on in their time apart. Which was mostly just Kim gushing on and on about Jared.
Y/n knew Kim was obsessed with this one crush of hers for years. But since they didn’t go to the same school y/n always wondered who the guy was. It was exciting to know he is as obsessed with her as she is.
“Yeah things have been great with him. Hoping soon we can have our own place together. On that note I hope you don’t mind but he told our friends about you. Since we don’t get much new people here they were excited. They all wanna meet you”
This piqued y/n’s interest, she couldn’t stand being in the house alone, the novelty of it all was starting to wear on her. “Really? I mean who are your friends?” She asked with a curious tint in her eyes which amused Kim.
“I mean~ I’m really close with this girl named Emily. She has a man named Sam who Jared is also close with. We usually just hang at her place since everyone else does”
“And who’s everyone else?” Y/n asked making Kim shrug her shoulders. “Most of them are Jared’s brothers, cousins, and friends he took in. In our friend group there’s hardly any girls. Just me, Emily, and Leah”
Kim went on about who these two girls were. Emily was a friend of hers she got close with in recent years. Around two years older than the two but she was carefree and loved by all. Her fiancé Sam was a strong but calm man, was always busy with work, but loves Emily fiercely.
Apparently a few years back she had been attacked by a bear. Luckily before it claimed her life Sam came with a shot gun and blew its head out. As proof of the kill they gifted the community jars full of bear grease. It was also how Emily was able to fix her face since it was torn to shreds.
Leah was described as stoic and honest, maybe too honest for her own good, a very independent person. But like the rest she was fiercely loyal and protective of those she loves. She was more of a boyish girl and hung with her brothers a lot.
“The rest is just guys like Quil, Embry, and Jacob I don’t know if you remember those guys” Kim said making y/n rack her brain about remembering them. “Yeah somewhat… But either way I’d like to meet them also” She said getting Kim excited and giddy as she squealed.
“Well~ I came over to ask if you wanted to come to this bonfire party. It’s this weekend and I told everyone you would come. Emily especially wants to see you” Y/n couldn’t help but feel flattered and excited. This was what she was wanting, to meet new friends, so why wouldn’t she agree?
“Yeah of course it sounds fun” she said making Kim squeal with excitement. “Okay great! Oh it’s gonna be so fun I’ll get dropped off here and come with you in your car if that’s ok?” She asked and of course y/n agreed.
“It’s just that Jared has some other errands to do I don’t wanna waste my time on that” Kim said making y/n giggle. The two girls continued their visit till dark before she left. Thinking of what they wanted to do this weekend.
Jared came in his blue heavy duty truck with loud pipes announcing his arrival. Like the gentleman he was he came to the door for Kim. Before leaving she promised she’d come spend the night this weekend. It gave y/n something to look forward to.
That night y/n followed her now usual routine. Sitting in her windowsill gazing out to the tree line. Tonight was a full moon that stood high above the trees and mountains. She gazed upon it until she felt tired enough to just sleep when she hit the bed.
As she slept she had a dream, of her alone in the woods behind her house, everything all felt real to her. How the cold air bit at her skin and shocked her lungs when breathing in. Looking down she wore only a white dress with no details.
She didn’t have any shoes on either. Feeling the crunchy dirt under her feet. Looking around she wondered what was happening. She could hardly see within six feet in front of her.
The full moon was bright as it shined down through the trees. Although beautiful it didn’t help much. Aware of her surroundings she couldn’t make out where was home. Trying to find the North Star or at least the Big Dipper for guidance.
The air was silent and very still a sign she knew wasn’t good. Her instincts told her she should be quiet. For she wasn’t alone in this vast wilderness. Feeling her heart beat start to race at a steadily rising pace.
In the distance she could hear echos of thumps, four legs on the ground running at top speed, right in her direction. Her heart started to beat faster and louder. Before she knew it she was on her feet.
She ran as fast as she could, it didn’t help she was barefooted, it messed with her speed. Panicked and alone she wasn’t sure where to go. All she knew was there was something coming for *her.* The pain of pine needles and stones beneath her steps.
Somehow she was sweating as she ran full speed. She could hear the noise of something on all fours running behind her. As she briefly looked behind she twisted her foot and rolled on the ground.
Crawling onto her knees in a hurry she was frantic. The fear of not knowing what would happen if she stopped. But it was like her legs were weak and her body frozen in place.
“I can help you” a familiar voice chimed in front of her making her jump back. She felt frozen as her eyes looked forward. A woman stood in front of her face hidden under the shadows.
Y/n’s eyes trailed up from her feet, by the time she got to her chest, she could see auburn hair flowing in the wind. It gave her brief solace seeing her, the girl from earlier, Renesmee. Thinking she’d meet with the soft enchanting eyes as she did before.
Only to be met with eyes that were so black it competed with the shadows. Her skin like diamonds under the moonlight. True fear ran through y/n’s veins as she was once again locked eyes with this girl. Everything in her body told her this was what she was running from.
A howl suddenly pierced through the valley and trees. It was loud and clear so much it rang throughout her ears. It sounded like the howl was right behind her somehow directly in her ear. It struck fear into the woman in front of her.
The howl made her snap out of the dream entirely. Y/n jumped out of bed and clasped her chest. Sitting in a cold sweat her heart beat pumped steadily. Wondering what her dream meant and why did the howl comfort her so much?
Finally finished rewriting this fic! This is a redo of my old fic named “Pale Moonlight” I did 2 years ago. I always liked the concept but I struggled on the timeline. Originally I wanted to set it during the actual events of the saga. But I ended up making this after the events of the twilight saga. As a way of seeing what the Wolfpack get up to with and without vampires. This is focused on them and their story. Not to mention a romance with Paul 💪 I do have the other chapters ready but I need time to edit them. In the meantime feel free to leave feedback 🫶
