Baby Tapir News
Hello baby tapir fans! After a long hiatus I have three pieces of BabyTapirPhotos-related news to share with you.
Last week I attended the Tapir Specialist Group’s 2017 Symposium in Houston, which was a good time and I made a bunch of new tapir conservationist friends. On the way home, I had the chance to stop at Ellen Trout Zoo in Lufkin, Texas to see Amirah, who recently moved there to pair with a male tapir. The zoo is gorgeous and peaceful, and she has a reasonably nice outdoor exhibit to live in. Unfortunately she was sleeping in a spot where I couldn’t even make an attempt to get a photograph. Second, Ketawa’s photos are now available in book form! Ketawa: The Life of a Baby Tapir launches today on Amazon in both physical book and Kindle. If collects the best 300 of my photos of him, including a few that never made it here.
Third, and the best news of all, is that Bertie is pregnant again, and expecting sometime in the early part of 2018. So a few months from now we should have a third tapir to add to this project. Look forward to more posts when that happens!
Look at that wiggly little baby tapir nose!!!
Slurp!
The energetic baby tapir at Touroparc Zoo is already a crowd-pleaser!
There are only 800 Baird's tapir left in Nicaragua, and deforestation, encroaching farmland, illegal sales and poaching are all affecting their numbers. But a zoo reproductive program aims to increase their numbers.
Way to go Nicaragua!
This baby tapir just wants to say hello!
