FORMER Cebu City councilor Sylvan “Jack” Jakosalem is back in the intensive care unit (ICU).
According to a radio Y101 announcement, he was taken to the hospital last July 26. Jakosalem was a disc jockey (DJ) at the FM station before he got ill.
Former Y101 DJs Mike Solon and Chad Songalia, along with other DJs, have organized a “radiothon,” which began last Friday.
Former DJs from the 1980s and 1990s went on board and manned telephone lines to accept pledges for the former councilor.
The radiothon, which is called “Back for Jack,” will continue every Friday of this month.
The money that will be raised will be given to Jakosalem’s wife Sharon to help with his medical expenses.... (cont)

Sylvan “Jack" Jakosalem has been left paralyzed from a recurrence of Neurocysticercosis — a parasitic infection of the brain. After falling into a coma, several surgeries, and being confined at the Intensive Care Unit of a local hospital for months, the overwhelming emotional and financial strain of Jack’s ordeal has shattered his life and that of his family’s.
This plan will begin to consolidate all activities and events aligned for the effort to help raise funds for Jack’s continuing battle with his illness, and his recovery. It is through close collaboration with individuals, partners and groups involved that these events will be realized.
