Aspects of Jounouchi I Actually Can’t Think About That Much Because They Destroy Me:
- The way people who don’t know him hear his bragging and assume he needs to be taken down a peg, when in reality he’s been so repeatedly put down by the people in his life
- He wears those sneakers everywhere but one of them has a hole through it from the day he got them so like… does his foot get wet when it rains??
- He thinks if he can get his father clear of debt they can “forgive and forget” and “get along like a father and son should” (I can’t remember if that’s exactly what he says but it’s something similar)
- Like he just wants to be able to believe that his father is (could be) a good man… he wants his father to think HE’S a good man…
- The way he’s internalized that idea it’s his responsibility to fix things so much he thinks it’ll be his fault if Shizuka goes blind
- He never stops trying but he blames himself for too many failures if he thinks anything that goes wrong is his fault (you know, since he should have taken care of it). Like in the anime, when he “fails” to get Exodia back: “It’s not okay. It’s always this way with me.”
- I think he kind of meant it when he said he wasn’t bullying Yugi (before he learned better) because being taught “how to be a man” is probably one of the few kinds of interactions with his dad he can put any kind of positive spin on and so he thought he was doing the right thing for Yugi in some way
- He wears dog tags but we’ll never have a canon explanation for who he got them from or why he wears them
- He hates the dark and sleeps with a light on at least some of the time
- According to Honda he always looked out for the weaker guys in the gang and wouldn’t go after guys that weren’t as strong as him… like again, he was just a kid who wanted to be a good man and didn’t know how…
