Funny interaction with my Japanese teacher today. We are going to watch Grave of the Fireflies for our class, and she comes into the tutoring room with a book.

She asks, "I'm assuming you've seen the movie before?"

"Yes, three times."

"Well, to prepare for the movie, you should read this book. It's not very long." She hands me the book, "It's a collection of stories, it's a children's book."

It's 200 or so pages and has a lot of Chinese characters that I don't think are in children's books... Will I have time to read the entire thing before Tuesday? Probably not. The first story is about a whale.

As far as I know, she doesn't lend any other students books and novels. She always lends me interesting ones though. One was a Japanese poetry book, and the other was Hakase no Aishita Suushiki (The Professor's Beloved Equation.)

She might lend me her books because she always sees me reading Japanese books outside of class (even though they're mostly BL.)
