I need more queer romcoms like Crush it's literally so refreshing and just nice to watch queer movies not entirely based on coming out or anything. It was just two girls falling in love and IT WAS THE CUTEST SHIT I'VE SEEN
can you do one where madison finally confesses her feelings for zoe after showing multiple hints bc she’s jealous that zoe is hanging out with mallory so much
YES!! I love this idea a lot! :) I also decided to add a few extra elements to this idea...so hopefully you like it!!
Also sorry for the delay on posting!!
“Did you guys even know I was dead?”
“We knew.”
Madison cannot help but replay that interaction over and over again, the image of Zoe’s cold stare engraved in her mind. The emotionless gaze Zoe gave her keeps Madison awake, even though she is extremely exhausted after coming back from Hell; she just cannot shut her mind off!
She finally has enough of lying in this room, alone, and gets up. She cannot sleep anyways, so she might as well do something to occupy herself! Madison climbs out of bed and quickly grabs a hoodie, pulling it onto herself, before exiting her room and going downstairs.
She expects to be the only one awake, considering how late it is, and is surprised when she hears low talking coming from the living room. She stops at the bottom of the stairs and listens for a moment, trying to figure out who is down there with her.
“Wait, wait, so you’re telling me you contacted some random, serial killer spirit?” A girl asks. “Just to save Madison?”
“She was my friend,” Zoe replies. “That’s what friends do, Mal! It’s like...something you’d do for Coco.”
“You’re not wrong...”
Silence goes between them for a moment.
“Have you heard enough of my stories about Madison for now?” Zoe continues.
“You barely told me anything, Zoe!” Mallory replies. “Come on!”
“I...I don’t really want to talk about her, honestly.”
“But I thought you two are friends.”
“I just don’t want to get into everything. Now, how about we get back to watching Parks and Rec?”
“I’m not going to protest there!”
The TV is turned on and there is the sound of low conversations coming from the show, which Madison blocks out. Did she really hear that? Does Zoe really hate her? She lets out a little sigh, trying to clear her mind. She swallows hard and heads to the kitchen, looking through the fridge for something.
Nothing catches her attention though, which means only one thing to do now! Madison opens her former favourite cupboard, the liquor cabinet. Fortunately for her, the cabinet is pretty stocked up, so she grabs a bottle of vodka and heads up to her room for the remainder of the night.
- - - -
When morning comes, Madison quickly changes into a more typical outfit of hers and goes downstairs, cautiously, still thinking about what she heard the night before. This time, Madison walks into the living room, which is where Zoe was with the other girl the night before.
To her surprise, Madison finds Zoe asleep on the couch, but she isn’t alone. Curled up lazily on top of her is an unfamiliar brunette. Madison cannot help but role her eyes; she dies and goes to Hell, and instead of trying to help her Zoe just replaces her ‘best friend’? If they were EVER that!
Madison seats herself on one of the armchairs, ignoring the presences of Zoe and the other girl, as she goes on her phone to distract herself. Soon enough though, the others wake up.
“Wow, look at that!” Madison scoffs out, eyes still glued to her phone. “Benson and her girlfriend are up! I guess I’m easily replaced...”
“A pleasure to see you, as always Madison,” Zoe rolls her eyes.
“We aren’t girlfriends.” Mallory adds, seeming to get defensive.
“Oh, of course not! That’s why you two lovers fall asleep on the couch together?”
“Lay off, Maddie, sh-”
“Don’t you dare call me that!”
“Okay, okay! Geez. Just Mallory and Coco are actually a coup-”
“Zoe!” Mallory hits her arm lightly. “You weren’t support to tell anyone!”
Madison smirks; that’ll cause a rift between them!
“Shit! I’m sorry, Mal!” Zoe apologizes.
“It’s okay just…be more careful.” Mallory smiles at Zoe. “Coco and I still haven’t agreed to tell everyone and I don’t really want the whole Coven finding out just yet.”
What the hell?! She thinks to herself.
“Breakfast?” Zoe asks.
“I think I’ll pass.” Madison replies.
- - - -
Over the next few days, Madison decides there is only one thing she can do; try to win Zoe over! She starts off with the way she knows best, which is buying Zoe gifts, but it doesn’t work. Madison knows that Zoe isn’t like that and prefers other gestures, like offering help or just being kind!
Regardless of how she does it, Madison just needs to show Zoe that she has changed and is different now! With that thought in mind, Madison does something she thought she would never do! She goes to Zoe’s room and knocks on the door. After a few moments, the brunette answers, a polite smile on her face.
“Can I help you teach some classes?” Madison asks, quickly.
“What?” Zoe asks, confused. “Why?”
“Because I want to help out a little around here, and try to get involved or whatever.”
“But the old Madison woul-”
“She’s dead, Zoe! I’m different, really.”
Zoe thinks for a moment, contemplating what to do.
“Please,” Madison insists. “And plus, I’ll get to spend more time with you and see what you do around here!”
“So?” Zoe questions.
“So I want to know what you do around here and I’ve missed out on a lot of your life! This will help me catch up!”
Zoe thinks for a minute, as if contemplating what to do. Is this a good idea?
“Okay.” She finally agrees. “Class is in a little bit so just...meet me there.”
- - - -
Madison spends the next few days teaching classes with Zoe, which actually is quite nice! She gets to know some of the girls as well and gets to see Zoe interacting with them. Zoe looks so comfortable and confident teaching, which makes Madison like her even more (somehow).
Even better than that, Zoe is warming up to her...somewhat. They’re talking a little bit, which helps Madison with trying to show Zoe she cares. The big question is if it is working or not!
On this particular morning though, Madison’s hopes are halted when she sees Zoe and Mallory laughing together in the kitchen, having breakfast. Sure, she is happy with Zoe having friends, but really? Their ‘friendship’ seems a little bit too flirty and touchy.
“You know, you don’t have to lurk.” Someone says.
Madison turns around and finds Coco standing there.
“I’m not lurking.” Madison scoffs out.
“Sure.” Coco chuckles as she now moves to stand next to Madison.
Madison had met Coco recently and the two have only talked briefly, which is when Madison brought up Coco’s relationship with Mallory. Now, the girls stand in silence while looking at Mallory and Zoe.
“Aren’t you dating Mallory?” Madison asks, seeking confirmation.
“I am.” Coco nods.
“And that doesn’t bother you?”
“What?”
“Her and...and Zoe? They’re practically shoving their tongues down each others’ throats!”
“No, no! Mallory and Zoe are just close, like sisters. Zoe has been a really good mentor to Mallory for her entire time at the Coven! They just click well with each other, but there isn’t anything romantic happening between them!”
Madison nods, but still isn’t convinced by it. There has to be something she could do to get Zoe to pay more attention to her over Mallory!
- - - -
Madison continues to help Zoe with teaching, trying her best to show that this ‘new Madison’ exists, but it doesn’t seem to work well! At each of Madison’s nice actions or offers, Zoe just says a simple ‘thanks’ and nothing else! She is struggling to flirt and make it apparent to Zoe, which is flustering since Madison is normally quite the skilled flirter.
How much clearer am I supposed to make this? Madison asks herself.
All she wants is to get closer to Zoe...somehow. And she just happens to have a good idea that might work.
“Zo?” Madison asks, looking up from the papers she is marking.
“Yes?” Zoe looks over to Madison.
“Can I, maybe, move back into your room?”
“Uh, why?”
“I just…I don’t like being alone. And I kind of…I kind of miss sharing a room with you…”
“Really?”
“Yeah! I mean, we were friends and everything. And you always made a great roommate.”
A small smile creeps onto Zoe’s face and she nods.
“Yeah, okay.” Zoe replies. “I’ll help you move some of your stuff in right after we finish up with marking these. Okay?”
“Okay.”
- - - -
At first, being Zoe’s roommate is great! Things seem to be working out well, the girls are chatting up until late hours of the night and they are getting along with each other as if nothing happened!
But soon enough, Zoe stops sleeping in their room and ends up spending more time on the couch with Mallory; watching movies, playing board games and just hanging out with her until they both accidentally fall asleep on the couch.
Madison tries to be cool about it, always saying ‘of course’ or ‘have fun’ whenever Zoe tells her she’s going back downstairs. Secretly though, she hates it!
Why is Zoe spending all this time with Mallory and not me? Madison asks herself. How much more effort do I need to put in for her to notice? Why can’t she just say something?
Madison sits down on the couch in the living room around 11pm, knowing that Mallory and Zoe usually have their movie night. This time, she is going to join the two!
“Oh, hey, Maddie!” Zoe smiles as she walks in holding a bowl of popcorn, Mallory by her side. “Mal and I are watching a movie tonight.”
“That’s fine!” Madison shrugs. “I’ll join.”
Zoe and Mallory don’t protest and instead sit next to Madison, Zoe between her two friends holding the popcorn. Soon enough, the movie starts and there is silence between everyone until a sad scene comes on. Madison looks over at Zoe and sees her tearing up.
What do I do? She asks herself.
She finally decides on doing something and extends a hand over to Zoe, as if offering her to hold it. Before she even notices though, Zoe is pulled into a tight hug by Mallory.
“Don’t cry,” Mallory giggles.
Zoe chuckles in response.
“Yeah, don’t cry.” Madison tries to wedge her way into their interaction.
She quickly slips her arm around Zoe, trying to pull her off Mallory and into her own embrace. It doesn’t work though, Mallory continuing to hold Zoe tightly. She shoots Madison a confused look, unsure what the blonde is trying to do, but she doesn’t say anything.
Instead of just giving up or laying off, Madison tries to pull Zoe closer to herself and push Mallory way. It doesn’t work, since Mallory is hugging Zoe quite tightly, but this still doesn’t stop Madison! Zoe pulls herself out of the hugs she is receiving, noticing that the girls are almost fighting over her? It’s rather weird.
“I’m going to head upstairs,” Zoe stands up.
“Oh, okay.” Mallory frowns.
Zoe gives her the two a forced smile before walking upstairs. Madison and Mallory sit in silence for a little while before Madison stands up.
“Where are you going?” Mallory asks.
“Upstairs.” Madison scoffs out.
Mallory is about to say something but doesn’t, knowing that there is no point! Sure, Madison is acting cold and bitchy towards her, but that’s just how Madison acts (or, at least, to her understanding, that’s just her charm!).
Madison heads up to her shared room with Zoe. As soon as she steps in, she finds Zoe seated on the bed. Zoe instantly stands up, an upset look going across her face which makes a pit form in the bottom of Madison’s stomach.
“What was that about?” Zoe snaps, somewhat yelling at Madison.
“What was what about?” Madison rolls her eyes.
“You think I don’t notice how you were acting around Mallory?”
“I didn’t do anything!”
“You were practically pushing her away from me!”
“So? I was trying to comfort you first!”
“Really? That’s the big deal here?”
“What? You don’t want me to?”
“You can, but that doesn’t mean you have to be a complete bitch to Mal though! She’s nice. Maddie! Very nice! She’s one of the sweetest girls around! She’s been nothing but positive and amazing towards everyone here an-”
“God, I get it! She’s so much better than me and you’d rather have her around than me!”
“You’re literally a child complaining about this! Oh my god!”
“Well, I’m sorry that you made me somehow care about you so much that I don’t like seeing other people have you when I can’t!”
Madison grinds her teeth as she not processes what she said.
Fuck. She internally curses at herself.
“What was that?” Zoe asks.
“What?” Madison plays dumb.
A small smile goes onto Zoe’s face. Not a mean smile, but more of a kind, ‘finally’, smile.
“Say it again, Maddie.” Zoe nods.
“I like you,” Maddie mumbles out, looking at the ground and feeling her face getting warm.
Zoe approaches Madison and places a hand on her cheek, forcing her to look up and make eye contact.
“I know,” Zoe smiles a little bigger.
“You knew?” Madison snaps. “And you made me act like a complete idiot this entire time trying to impress you an-”
Madison’s ranting is cut off by Zoe placing a kiss to her lips.
“I wanted to hear it from you,” Zoe whispers out, resting her forehead against Madison’s. “I wanted to hear you actually say it, so I would know for sure that you actually cared about me. And I also didn’t want to make a fool for myself...”
“So instead, you let me make a fool of myself?” Madison scoffs out.
“No, no. You could never make a fool of yourself, Maddie. You just helped prove that this ‘New Madison’ can put away her ego and pride, to show me that she actually does care.”
Madison lets out a little chuckle before pressing her lips against Zoe’s once more, giving her a quick kiss.
“So I don’t need to worry about Mallory?” Madison asks.
“No, you don’t.” Zoe shakes her head. “She’s just a friend, like I told you.”
Madison smiles before wrapping her arms around Zoe, quickly nuzzling herself underneath Zoe’s chin and against her chest.
“Good.” Madison says, softly.
