I pretty much use this tumblr account for my Year in Review every year. AND I GUESS NOTHING ELSE. I obsessively catalog everything because I can no longer remember what happened in early January when December rolls around. Something to keep in mind: I have ADHD so my junk is all over the place. This year was a particularly hard to year to stay focused, so I didn't read as much as I wanted to -or rather, I started like 17 books and didn't finish them. I listened to a lot of music, but most of it was from not 2017.

I keep a notebook full of all the books I read, movies I watch, and the shows I see every year. In keeping with my annual tradition and thus only reason I use this mostly abandoned tumblr anymore (except for one random picture of Ric Flair I reblogged this year for some reason). I did not read as many books or watch as many movies as I wanted to in 2016 AND this is the first year I actually left a few things unrecorded in my log (!) because it was just an insane year and I was DISTRACTED. Part of connecting with who I am as a transgender man and living a happy, authentic life means changing my body to match my internal experience and the gender I feel, and have always felt that I am.

Since puberty, I have had breasts (large ones), and this has caused me great pain, anguish, frustration, and many mental health issues. As long as I have had breasts, I have longed for them to be gone from my body. I cannot even hide my chest with a binder, because they are simply too large to be bound.

Top surgery (specifically a bilateral mastectomy with male chest contouring) will be a great moment in my life, allowing me to present as the gender I am as fully as I can. It will mean I am safer in spaces where it may be dangerous to have breasts and present as male. It will mean improved self-esteem, mental health, physical health, confidence, and an all-around better life for me. It will alleviate much of the intense gender dysphoria I’ve experienced my entire life. It will be an unforgettable milestone in my journey as a trans person, and bring me one giant step closer to living in the body I’ve wanted since I was a child.

I’m asking you to help me in reaching this goal, in supporting a poor trans grad students’ dreams of being boob-free. My insurance will cover some of the expensive procedure, but unfortunately not all - and I need funds to survive while recovering.

I know you probably don’t have much, but whatever amount you can spare will be appreciated and celebrated, and I will think of and be eternally grateful for your contribution in all my glorious booblessness for the rest of my life.
