if i can get a little real for once in my smoshposting, i do think amanda lehan-canto has raised my standards so much higher for like. "celebrities" (using that term loosely because she still is not someone who most people have heard of or know who she is) responding to having gay allegations about them floating around. when courtney miller told her she was "never beating the allegations" as a joke during their trevor project fundraiser livestream video, amanda immediately responded very seriously with "i don't mind the allegations. it sounds awesome and incredible and i'm happy to be accepted into the community." like yeah, this is how people in the public eye NEED to be responding to shit like that, especially right now. obviously, there is a line that should be drawn when it comes to outright harassing someone over shit like that, but someone just making a statement that someone reads as gay or trans or any sort of queer identity is not an insult and should not be treated as one. like i honestly struggle to think of any reportedly straight celebrities who have handled gay allegations as strongly as i would say she handled that, and it was in response to what was technically a joke. thank you amanda, i love you amanda. everyone be more like amanda lehan-canto right now.
