31 Days of Horror, Day Sixteen: The Vourdalak – Unquiet Things
This was a strange combination of creepy/campy that never really leaned far enough one way or the other, suspended in a weird middle ground between nightmare and absurdity, but the story was linear enough, so it wasn’t too, too surreal. A French nobleman stranded at an isolated manor, a vampire patriarch played by a skeletal puppet, siblings gathering garlic flowers and yew in the misty woods. Gorgeous visuals, all grain and shadow, like something that wandered out of 1970s Eastern Europe. That ending! Gosh.
