listen bro listen. wilbur? he did such a good job with his villain arc because it built off of his previously established character traits of being paranoid and constantly second guessing himself. and a big part of that was because of eret’s betrayal in the first war, because it was so out of left field, it was so unexpected to everyone there that eret, one of the founders, the person who built up l'manburg’s walls and helped them get supplies and spent so long talking to tommy and tubbo and practically being their older sibling, would betray them like that. and it fucking messed up wilbur
niki wasnt there for the war so she didnt understand why everyone hated eret so much and she started hanging out with him. and in those early days? wilbur resented that. he started second guessing niki, even though she’d never even done anything against l'manburg, again and again, wondering if her loyalty was fake or not, because of eret’s betrayal. and that got so much worse after the election because effectively everyone turned against him and tommy when they were exiled. fundy and jack explicitly stated their support for schlatt as a president and that broke wilbur because he’d poured so much of his identity into his country only for it all to be ripped away from him, and fairly too. he had to come to terms with the fact that no one actually wanted him to be president even though he’d led all of them in the war and that doubly hurt because even his own son turned against him
losing all of that loyalty is what really kicked off wilbur’s character arc because he started perceiving himself as the villain of the story. and to make matters worse no one really visited him and tommy in the revolution base because they were still making their minds up about whether or not schlatt was really good for the country, but by the time theyd actually started siding with wilbur he’d already made up his mind about blowing up l'manburg. like tommy was there, sure, but wilbur was never going to listen to his younger kid brother. and i can talk about that for a long time, how he ended up being manipulative to tommy and the effect that the pressure of trying to make sure his own brother didn’t blow up their country and hurt their friends had on that kid, but my point here is that there’s a very clear track of what wilbur’s mindset was during the post-election arc.
he put all of his self-worth and value into being a leader that everyone could look up to, that everyone could rally behind, to the point that when he lost that title of president he didn’t know what to do with himself. and that’s the saddest fucking part, because wilbur thought he was irredeemable and unloved when really there wasn’t a single person in l'manburg who’d lost faith in him up until the point that he blew up that tnt. because he was never really past the point of forgiveness, no one fucking thought that. he just got so wrapped up in his own insecurities and paranoia that he lost himself to it
i dont take critism
Technoblade, who has executed Tubbo and helped destroy his home twice, also has a vault filled with withers: But why does Snowchester need nukes?
Tubbo, a traumatized child soldier who has fought in wars, been betrayed by friends, spied on an alcoholic dictator, been executed by the man in front of him, forced to exile his best friend or watch everyone else under him slaughtered, saw his country destroyed for the final time, became a death seeker and almost got murdered, thinks his best friend is dead again: People scare me.
today i offer you some of my designs for the dsmp characters that i’m happy with, tomorrow? who knows.
(basically i like to change my character designs depending on where the story is and incorporating my headcanons too so this is pretty much a reference line up that helps me remember all that)
Hey, hey guys
it’s kinda quiet uptown, right?
I can't get over.... the grieving. Like, the fandom's grieving. I open tumblr, and I scroll through my dash to see only more posts about c!Tommy and how every character's coping. How he didn't deserve it. Talking about how other characters have reacted. Creating art, and putting out somber writing, and letting out every feeling and thought, sad and angry and dissapointed.... it feels like grieving.
This hasn't happened before. After c!Wilbur's death, we discussed him, sure, and we talked about how we'd miss him, but there wasn't... this. We animated his last moments. We talked about what happened. But, it felt more like a spectacle. And the mourning that was done was done quietly, and passively, creating the typical angst pieces that got buried underneath all the other stuff going on, underneath discussions of betrayal and government and hope for the future.
But this time, we're united. This time, it's not pretty. It's not epic speeches and poetic exits and loud destruction. Cause there's a blanket of sadness covering every post I see, and the injustice of it all paints over the story more than ever.
This time, it's just loss.
And in a way, I feel it's fitting. After all, Tommy has always been known for his attachments - for how he cared so much about the most mundane of things, and created sentimentality where there was none. It feels right that'd we do the same, while he is gone.
