plotted starter idea for @ballerinaninjachemist
Lucifer stood in the hospital waiting room pacing. He was trying to wrack his brain with something, anything he could do to save Chloe from the poison tearing through her system. He needed a distraction, and looked up to see Trixie sitting on one of the molded plastic chairs looking almost as distraught and burdened as he was.
He moved to slide into the seat beside the child and asked, “I need a snack and your help.”
Her mom was hurt...again. Trixie didn’t know what to do, it felt like her brain had just stopped, as if time itself had just stopped and they were both sat there, just waiting for something to happen. Frowning as Lucifer slid into the seat beside her, Trixie felt her stomach sink, “is Mom really that sick?” She must have been if he was willingly sitting that close to her without complaining.
“I don’t have any cash for the vending machine,” she told him with a heavy sigh, her eyes going back to the floor. “You always have cash though.”

what did he care about the keys to Hell? the only keys that held any sort of interest for him were made of ivory, already bored with the conversation, but having decided to martyr his time he wouldn’t turn from it now. golden gaze watching her examine the drink, wondering if she’d try it if he found one of those ridiculous straws for her to drink out of. not that he made the assumption based on her form, but she was one of the guardians of innocence or some other such nonsense, the only reaction to what she’d said was a flicker of rage in his eyes before they were hidden behind his lashes as he finished his glass.
now that, that was interesting, mostly irritating, because he couldn’t just send Mazikeen, and he didn’t want to go himself until he learned more because he so hated falling for stupid traps just to get it over and done with. he’d only just got the smell of the last idiot off his skin, twisting the glass in his fingers idly before settling his hip against the bar, leaning down with his elbow bracing him.
‘and what do you think i should be doing, surely you’re not expecting me to fly off to go find this slanderer and bring him to some sort of justice, salvage my-’
he can’t help grinning, taking the glass away from her to lift in a mock toast before idly letting it fall back with a solid thunk.
‘my good name, as it were. why are you so worried for my reputation, little one?’
she wasn’t strong enough to hold Hell, so the idea that their father had sent her to govern Hell in Lucifer’s absence was borderline hysterical, and other than slander, which wasn’t incentive enough, he didn’t know why she’d bothered. did she want him to owe her a favour? was she trying to force him into a debt to her for her “free” information?
Frowning, she watched her brother, confused about what he was trying to do. For a moment she felt as if she was being questioned, like he thought that she had some ulterior motive, or some kind of plan. Truth was, she had used it to see him. How many of their family were down here, just hanging out, and capable of dropping in on.
Ionael pulled the glass closer to her, picked it up again and sniffed at it before she took a sip and coughed. Oh it burned. Like fire. Suddenly she found it fitting, as if their father had put together a drink that was perfectly suited to him. “I just thought you should know.” She stated honestly, “you always said that telling the truth was important.” Her brother was many things, devious, cunning, she’d go as far as to call him manipulative on occasion, but he wasn’t a liar. “You wouldn’t lie about people, so they shouldn’t get to tell lies about you.” It was an overly simplistic point of view, but it wasn’t entirely without merit.
Despite her young age, both in relation to her siblings, and her vessel, she understood some things. Without dark, there was no light. Without good, there was no bad. Without hell there was no heaven. For all of those, there were a million shades in between and all of it precariously balanced. The universe teetered on some strange homeostatic pinhead, should it sway too far one day, events would restore it, the balance would shift, ever ebbing to and fro, from dark to light, bad to good, heaven to hell. Too far to one extreme would take the world over the edge and that couldn’t be allowed to happen.
“Plus, I thought you should know in case anything happens...because if it goes wrong, then we know there’s going to be no world for you to have fun in.” That was what he was having here wasn’t it? Fun? “No ones going to want to party when the population of hell gets set free and ravages the Earth are they? I don’t think even I would like to play if that happened.”

They were meant to be on holiday, of course, most holidays didn’t end with ER trips...but here they were, car having rolled down the highway, and somehow, the two of them weren’t dead. Trixie supposed that their guardian Devil might have had more influence over their fate than they both realised.
“My tummy hurts.” She admitted, frowning at the doctor. “Is my Mom okay? She was really upset, and she was crying, and she was really scared...and she’s a cop and she doesn’t get scared...” oh, there were tears brimming in the girls voice. “She was upset and then she went really quiet...”
“I don’t mean to sound romantic, but if not for Gotham… there’d be Paris. Certainly, there are other cities I could call home, but I don’t think there’s another that would make me feel it.”

❛ perhaps another time, but thank you for the offer. ❜ what troubles him, shouldn’t be something for a child to hear no matter the mature state they possessed. still the soft smile remains curving against deaths lips as he watches her, for a moment. ❛ you mother is a smart woman though if SOMETHING is bothering you, you should voice it no matter how small it may seem. ❜ he’s not going to take his own advice on that simply because what eats away at him is the darkness, the unending knowledge that one day he would have to tear EVERY THING from this domain. including those he cherished.
“No.” Her answer is quiet, but final. “Mom will get upset, and she has lots to deal with without all of that...and I don’t think she would believe me.” Turning to him she frowned, sighing a little before she decided if she was going to tell him exactly what was bothering her. Then again, it all hinged on if she really believed who he was. “Lucifer really is the devil isn’t he?” Trixie asked quietly, like she was trying to keep anyone else from over hearing their conversation. “I know my mom doesn’t believe that but it’s the truth isn’t it? And that means that you’re really Death doesn’t it?”

“And how long did that take, for your Mother and your Father to reconcile?” Azrael asked with arms folded and one eyebrow raised.
Clearly, by the absence of a deep, agonized frown on her forehead, the brief hallucinatory episode had subsided. She was present, once more, looking down upon Trixie with those strange grey eyes and listening intently to what the child had to say.
Azrael imagined that Trixie was probably a very loved child, a daughter to be proud of indeed. She couldn't help but feel envious. What was it like to have two loving parents? What was it like to be innocent, to be cherished? Perhaps, one day, Trixie could explain to her what it was like.
“It took her a long time, they fought for ages, Mom would go outside and sit in the car and they would argue on the phone, Mom tried to hide it but I could hear her because I sleep with the window open.” There was a certain innocence in her story, as if she didn’t truly understand just how severe the breakdown in their relationship had been. “Dad always missed things, like my school play, and my music recital, he stopped coming around to the house as well, at least now he can sometimes come over for dinner. We have Taco Night.” It was her favourite.
“It took them a long time not to me mad and hate each other I think...but they don’t hate each other now, but they don’t love each other either....they’re just, okay with each other.” That was better than hating she guessed, “and without everyone arguing everythings better too. No ones as sad anymore, but it means I can’t get cake out my Dad all the time now, he used to bring cake all the time to make up for missing things, and he’d give me money because he felt guilty.”

she never fails to AMAZE him, someone so young being so smart and philosophical. it was borderline amusing // lips curved ever so lightly as she spoke. icy hues lingering over the galactic portrait placed upon the wall — a simple drawing with paint, glitter and perhaps a few crayon he wasn’t sure // but it was beautiful to say the least. the THOUGHT behind it, the realization that she had when doing such a task, that was what spoke to him. ❛ my dear … i tend to forget just how smart you are for a child your age. ❜ he doesn’t mean the statement to be RUDE, nor would he wish it to be interpreted as such. lips curve, letting a small smile ghost across his expression as he watches the innocent soul. ❛ it is a lovely painting, one to put van gogh to shame. ❜
“I don’t think I’m that smart,” she shrugged, “Mom just says that everyone sees the world in a different way, and that even though there are lots and lots of people in the universe, everyone has a unique view on it.” Trixie explained softly. She certainly did see the universe in a different way, she saw the big picture. Like she could see a path through the universe that they were all one day going to navigate.
“Some people like to talk about what’s bothering them, Mom always tries to get me to talk about them too but I don’t like it, but if you do...then you can talk to me.” Trixie offered.
ofmusicandprayers:
“Or you could do that, yes,” he agreed, knowing full well that if he tried to discourage her from doing so, she’d more than likely research the term even more intently. Oh well. It wasn’t as though it could remotely be blamed on him if she found out.
“Also true. I’d say he’s scary if someone is mean to those who he cares about. He’s scary to those who need punishment.” San raised an eyebrow as she went into detail about the deals she’d made with the devil. “Cake is fleeting and money is forever… or something like that.”
“Cake is cheap.” Trixie interjected, “cash isn’t, he had to learn that I can’t be bought and sold with just cake like a child. After all, knowledge is power.” She stated with a nod, she wasn’t going to make that mistake and sell herself short early on. “He’ll think he can get anything out of me with cake and I can’t have that.”
holydeath:
“Why am I angry at him,” Azrael repeated, laughing morbidly under her breath. Children had an interesting, almost amusing way of seeing the world. Such fantastic simplicity. If only life operated the way Trixie thought it did, then perhaps Azrael would just be angry at Lucifer instead filled with rage and grief.
“There was a disagreement.” Azrael tried to explain, although she didn’t know why she was telling Trixie. “Lucifer betrayed our family for the sake of his pride. He stole from us and destroyed our home.“
For several seconds, the Archangel went blank, like she wasn’t present in her own vessel anymore. Azrael was, instead, experiencing her last memories of Lucifer. The flashbacks were so vivid. She could hear Lucifer saying ‘You should not have stood against me’, she saw the blood on her wings and the edge of Lucifer’s sword.
Truth be told, she wasn’t surprised by Lucifers past, even at her young age she understood that people had pasts...but people changed. The world changed. People got together and loved each other then split up again. Humans evolved and changed and you weren’t going to be the same person now as you were before. That was a given.
Yet, Azrael seemed almost tortured by it, and Trixie just wanted to make things better for her. Seeing someone so twisted up in sadness didn’t sit well with the little human. “And that makes you sad.” It was a statement rather than a question, Trixie frowned, a small sigh escaping her lungs before she looked up at the Archangel.
“It seems like a long time ago that it happened. It’s not good for you to have all of that inside you for a long time.” She thought out loud, “it’s like Mom and Dad, Dad did something and I don’t know what it is, but he did because they yelled at each other lots for a long time and then we had to move out of our house and come live in Grandmas house.” Pausing for a moment she shrugged her shoulders. “And it made Mom really upset for ages, but now shes not as upset anymore and that doesn’t mean that her and Dad are going to move back in and be Mom and Dad together, but it does mean that Mom can be happy and do things with other people.”
Trixie paused for a moment, getting a little frustrated with herself that she wasn’t making her point clear enough. “Mom got to be Mom again when she stopped being mad at him, but it doesn’t mean everything goes back to how it was before...”
