Hunter would do close to anything for Stacey. They’ve been through quite a lot, and now that he had her back in his life, he wasn’t about to fuck it up. He was good at that, fucking things up with people, especially the people he cared about, but he’s been trying to not do that for the longest time. Hunter was sure he was succeeding, but to really earn Stacey’s trust back in him, he had to make sure he kept on doing things like this for her, to show her that he was really there for her. They never really talked about what happened when Hunter was at Dalton but he still felt it weighed heavily on their relationship. He was fighting hard to that to go away every day.
“Want to get out of here?” Hunter asked, his eyesight moving from his best friend to over to where he felt he was being stared at, and sure enough some guy was looking back at them, his facial expressions incredibly hard to read. “Head out for some lunch?” Hunter said a beat later, his eyes still lingering on one of the guys in the room that just couldn’t seem to stop staring back.
He wasn’t sure if this was the guy that kept harassing the girl next to him, but if he was Hunter wanted him to know that he was here, and if this guy wanted to start anything with him, he would be 100% ready to take him down. hunter was always up for a fight and he has never once backed down from a fight, whether that be a physical or verbal one and he wasn’t going to start now. Especially considering it involved Stacey, someone who was extremely important to him. When he felt like he was staring at this guy long enough, Hunter turned his attention back to Stacey, and, without thinking, Hunter cupped one of her cheeks, leaned forward and pressed a soft kiss to her lips. He really just wanted this random creep to know she was taken, or at least think it. That was all.
Things had been...a bit strained underneath the surface. Stacey had silently been waiting for the other shoe to drop. Mostly she was scared. She didn’t want to lose Hunter again. It had been hard going through the rest of her high school years without her best friend just a phone call away. Coming to Hunter, blubbering on about how she had an awful day and despite his not too touchy nature, he’d pull her into his arms and attempt to comfort her. Once the two reconnected Stacey saw how hard he tried to make sure that she would trust him again, trust that he wouldn’t get involved in steroids once again. It never ceased to amaze Stacey that Hunter would try this hard for her. The feeling always brought an utter sense of warmth to her. She loved Hunter, more than words could describe. She always had.
Upon Hunter’s prompting, Stacey nodded her head in response and adjusted the strap of her duffle bag on her shoulder. “Yeah. We can go get..” Stacey had followed Hunter’s gaze and trailed off, hating the feeling of dread and slight fear that filled her. Her blue-green eyes focused on Hunter instead, unable to look at the boy across the room for much longer. “I’d be up for anything. I’m starving and my feet definitely are starting to hurt already. Did you have something in mind?” Stacey asked quietly.
Stacey watched Hunter as he stared down the man who had been harassing her for the past month or so. It didn’t surprise her that Hunter was obviously going into full on alpha male mode in an attempt to send a message to him. What Stacey hadn’t been expecting was the gentle touch to her cheek then the soft kiss that followed. It felt like all of the air in her lungs had vanished and was overwhelmed with the feeling of Hunter’s lips being pressed against hers. A beat later Stacey eagerly returned the kiss and curled her small hands over Hunter’s broad shoulders. This sure hadn’t been the first time Stacey had kissed Hunter, but there was an almost different feeling to it. She reluctantly detached their lips and looked up at Hunter with an almost breathless look on her face.
