So elated for our friend and one of the largest sources of our musical inspiration, Rachel Grimes and her long-awaited vinyl release of the 2003 masterpiece, Systems/Layers. Since Balmorhea’s inception, Rachel’s has played an immense role in our musical thought and output. Last week we got the incredibly sad news that we lost our friend, label-mate and previous drummer Mike Bell. He played drums and toured with Balmorhea from 2009-2010. You might also know Mike from his group Lymbyc Systym, who we have admired from the start of our time as a band. We feel honored to have been able to make music with him for that brief but important time in our band’s life and feel lucky to have encountered his wild, dynamic and sensitive spirit. Our hearts go out to his family and close friends, especially his brother and musical collaborator, Jared. We love you.
