Royal Ballet Monday
March 2nd, 2016 || Daily Class Journal and Corrections
Day 3 with the brilliant Irina Chistyakova:
We had a class all on pointe today. I honestly had SOOOOO much fun in class and was just loving every moment of it. I love ballet so much. <3
Here are a few of the millions of corrections:
-(unlike my normal teacher) keep arms in front of you when doing allonge from fifth position arms
- keep arms in front of you in second position and relax neck area
- really plié in jumps and for turns
- pirouettes en dehor: get leg up before beginning the turn, really plié before going up to think of just really lifting while turning and not just spinning, and don’t turn in front leg before starting the turn (she demonstrated these corrections on a girl in my class)
Monday, May 2nd, 2016 || My Goals for Class
I have been working on my exam class for a few weeks, and we are just beginning to work on variations. Groups of three or two will perform different variations. We have only learned three so far, one from Paquita, Gamzatti variation, and Giselle Act I variation. So far, I want to be chosen to do Giselle. My class on Friday went very well when I rehearsed it for the first time for my teacher in my group because all of my turns were clean and solid.
Goals for Monday:
-32 fouettes on pointe (sorry for not updating you guys on my progress! Ever since I have been wearing my Suffolk pointe shoes, my fouettés have improved dramatically. I can do them so quickly now too. I am working to get 32 in the music for my exam, but you have to turn extremely quickly to hit 32. So far, my record is 29, but we have only had fouettés in our exam for a week or so. Therefore, I am confident I can improve.)
-Practice grand allegro exam combination.
-Do oversplits after class.
-Do feet exercises before class.
-Focus on upper body in adagio.
-Work hard to get cleaner turns in barre combination!
-Remember to do en dedan arms in the last pointe combination
