‘ can we talk? ’ is a pretty awful way to start a conversation, but souji forgoes assumptions for the sake of his own sanity. he’d much prefer that yosuke come to him with any concerns anyway, rather than bottling them up or worrying himself silly.

my opinion on;
character in general: Like, I said before it is hard to have a real opinion of a silent protagonist. I still think I do love the protag, possibly because P4 got me into the series as a whole.how they play them: Okay, so, like legit, I gush about your Souji at least once a day to my girlfriend. I know everyone can interpret the protagonist anyway they wish, but your Souji falls most in line with I envisioned him being like. He’s sweet and gentle. I think actually your Souji’s gentleness is what I like most about him. But he’s also human. He struggles and has pains. It honestly kills me, when he’s hurting. He deserves happiness. Also, I particularly love your version (versions?) of Shadow Souji. The way it represents different emotions he represses around different muses just fits him so well.the mun: We also don’t talk much, but I really enjoy having you on dash and even more on Twitter!! I really do adore your Souji and you’re super nice to talk to, too!!

during the pageant he thought he’d pulled off the skirt & woman’s uniform top rather well. the style just fit& he’d adopted the personality it represented & ultimately had a pretty fun time ( despite his classmates’ critical judgment, but he never pays much attention to that, nor does he care ). but this it’s a cute outfit. better suited to rise, yukiko, or even chie. souji’s features are soft, but he’ll always be a boy that’s around six feet tall with no curves in sight.
the high-waisted skirt gives him the illusion, though, of a slimmer waist & wider hips. his boots are high enough to cover the majority of his legs, leaving only a window of thigh between the top of the boots & the skirt’s hem. the long-sleeved shirt doesn’t pose a problem whatsoever; he simply tucks it into the skirt & with that, the look is complete.
no wig or makeup this time. the faint pink to his cheeks isn’t superficial; it’s the real deal. he doesn’t know what to do or say, no pockets to hide his hands, so he holds them behind his back & keeps his gaze averted.

yosuke’s style is trendy. flashy. a hell of a lot more loud than anything souji wears. but he makes it work. attempting to brainstorm an outfit that won’t look awful & out of place on his own body turns out to be a difficult task. &, unfortunately, it’s not about what souji wants to wear, but rather which outfit of his partner’s does he like best? whatever it is, he has to commit to trying it on. he’s a man of his word, & he chooses one of the outfits that yosuke likes to wear in the summer: red pants & a graphic v-neck.
the shirt’s just a little too tight along the shoulders & across the chest, but it fits well enough. the pants pose more of a problem. already on the slimmer side, it takes a bit of time & effort to work his legs into them, but in the end he manages.

souji’s pale, with muted features, & red’s just so demanding. he can’t imagine that it treats him physically well.

yosuke doesn’t have all the exact pieces for such an outfit ( why would he? ), but he managed with what he could find. the sweater is nice & loose. he’s comfortable in it & warm ( an item that was probably high jacked from a certain someone. not naming any names—- ), the skirt is borrowed, and while he doesn’t have any thigh highs, he’d lifted a pair of tights as a substitute ( because as much as he would LOVE to ask his mom for some or to go BUY some; or, fuck, to be caught lifting some from his mom’s room—-be caught WITH them—– ) from teddie ( he’s decidedly not going to ask about the bear’s strange collection. let him live & yosuke can move on with his life ). yosuke adjusts his sweater again and again, pulls and tugs on it so it’s low; does the same to his skirt because he’s wearing one of these again. he’s constantly smoothing it down—praying that everything stays nice & neat & in place. someone better tell him he looks pretty or so help him—–
“h–how’s it look? like—-haha… i uh, think my legs look pretty great in this…! just—-just saying.”

Souji started off faster than expected! Not quick enough to leave him behind but he needs to half jog a few paces to be in step with him, pocketing the page as he does so.
“That’s irrelevant right now, don’t you think? I said I thought you would like it! That’s why I pointed it out.”
If he doesn’t they can definitely avoid an awkward situation, considering the latest trend in these movies seem more a PSA about IBS than anything entertaining.
“We’ve gotta focus on you some time, right?”
That’s how this works! So far it’s all seemed so one-sided, Souji may as well be his dad and that’s… an uncomfortable thought.

not because ha ha you’re a junior detective but because it sounds like it has the best plot. hopefully yosuke doesn’t think that souji’s just saying that to make him happy. he’s kind of touched that yosuke wants to direct more focus on what souji wants. much of his time spent in inaba is following whatever plans the others have ( although that’s not necessarily a complaint ).
he never really knows whether he should pay for the both of them but he decides to do it now when asking for two tickets to okina.

“I don’t usually insult the other Yosukes. What I… said to you?” He frowns. What did he say to upset Souji? Souji’s a really quiet person, so it’s hard to tell if he’s upset. “Everyone’s always giving me shit… so, if I fight back- then it’s wrong? If I tell people the way I really feel… then they’ll beg me to lie to them because it hurts? I guess- I guess it’s right not to express myself or open up to people. As a shadow, you should be against that- It’s funny…” All these jokes and no laughter.
“You… mean that?” Why would a shadow lie? “No. Unless you were making up all that stuff about it being hard to confess. Unless you were faking the love in your eyes. Un- less…” He pauses, considering. “…that’s just the way you feel about everyone. If I’m really so unimportant, you don’t have to drag me on. I was sure you were going to reject me and call me disgusting and never want to see me again, anyway, so…” Those actions would’ve been completely uncharacteristic of Souji, but his fears were so real at the time.
“But I never expected you to be. And I’m okay without you. No one expects you to do anything, but- you do things anyway. All of your responsibilities are things that you chose. If you neglected them, then people would be upset, and maybe some people feel entitled to your help- but if they really cared, they’d want you to rest. They’d want you to take care of yourself. They’d… hypothetically, might even resent themselves because they can’t repay you for what you’ve done for them, so taking care of you in any small measure would be the least they could do if you’d only let them…”
“ don’t you get it? sure, shadows revel in exposing the truth but that’s not how people work. human emotions are muddy, fragile, complicated. go ahead & ‘ fight back ’. defend yourself from these so-called offenses. just don’t forget that there are consequences & act surprised when somebody thinks you’re an unpleasant person to be around.
but maybe you have a point. & maybe i’m just jealous because you’re allowed to be an open book. ”
‘ i guess it’s right not to express myself... ’ ‘ i was so sure you were going to reject me... ’ yosuke’s ability to manipulate to garner pity is impressive. souji would’ve submitted to it; he’s weak. but as his shadow, so full of disdain, it’s much easier to brush that kind of selfish behavior off.
( ‘ if only you’d let them. ’ )

that’s the takeaway from this, & it’s fair. with one last look at yosuke, the shadow dematerializes into thin air.

the suit is well-fitted. sleek, black, layered over a charcoal gray dress shirt tucked neatly into a pair of dress slacks. there’s no tie.
one hand relaxes in his pocket; the other rises to touch the back of his head, smoothing down an errant strand of hair. his smile is calm but hesitant.
“ i hope it lives up to your expectations. ”

Yes what? Calm down, Yosuke. Of course he’d say yes. It’s not like this is really a first anything. He looks a fool now and overexcited and— He’ll berate himself more for this later but for now,
“T-today is good. That works.”
If he just sticks to his plans, things will go smoothly and maybe he can avoid being so… Himself about all of this. He pulls a sheet of paper, a clip from a newspaper, neatly folded into a pocket sized square, and opens it as he steps and turns so they can both see what’s written on it.
“I checked the times for today and I thought maybe you would want to see this one?”
He hesitates a moment and points out a comedy. It wasn’t his intended choice, there was another show at the same time— Something more date worthy, more in tune to his interests too- some crime film. He doesn’t exactly know the plot but it had piqued his interest. He just… really can’t do it though. A detective (sort of) going to that sort of movie for a date? How cheesy! Maybe a little narcissistic too. Maybe next time, and there will be a next time. He’d decided as much on his end already.
souji looks at the paper with yosuke & well. that’s not usually the kind of movie he’s into ( too many comedies try too hard or employ a sense of humor he doesn’t share ) but he’s endured shitty b-movie action flicks with chie & soppy romances with rise, so. it’s not a problem. although, he does skim over the other titles & their brief descriptions. seems like there are much better options.
“ i don’t mind either way, ” he says. “ are you sure you wouldn’t rather see something else? ”
whatever the case, he starts making his way out of the halls & toward the building exit. he blinks while adjusting to the bright light; despite the lingering chill, there’s plenty of sun to spare. assuming they’re heading straight to okina, he sets off in that direction.
