was reading a super interesting article in NYT and just completely zoned out half-way through. i seem to be singularly focused on coding.

using fear and anxiety to spur you into learning something can be powerful.

the debate over whether it's better to learn in small chunks every day, or large chunks infrequently, (as i asked myself here)continues. using codecademy's ruby lessons today, i forgot what a hash was. i had learned it yesterday, but without having used it immediately, i didn't remember it. so after a moment of struggle and brief panic, i reviewed what i did yesterday. is that momentary struggle/panic better for imprinting into memory? i certainly won't forget a hash again because of that.

big-endian means the big comes first; shouldn't it be called "big-beginian"?

i've procrastinated long enough. we received our prep materials on the 12th, and i've spent the last 5 days doing the following:

creating an unofficial cohort fb page

posting to that page

friending my fellow cohorts

fyi--did u know a cohort is the basic tactical unit of a roman legion? the more you know...

researching housing

surfing web about sf living

surfing web about sf bikes

building a sample app (see this post)

in other words doing everything but what i should be doing, which is focusing on the assignments at hand. old habits die hard.

it's official--I'm in the March 11 cohort, officially named "the Golden Bears"--my alma mater @cal's mascot. i've also been talking to 4-5 other cohort members--it seems that i've joined a fraternity that is more far reaching and more tight-knit than i had originally anticipated. this bodes very very well. we created an unofficial cohort facebook page yesterday, and we're starting to get to know each other via facebook.
