This hadn't happened before. He wasn't quite sure why. Perhaps before he'd been less inclined to be like this. But now, it seemed the most natural thing on earth, or any other planet. That it was welcomed by her so effortlessly and completely instilled a sense of peace in him rare to achieve. The thud of three heartbeats in tandem almost ticked like a clock, as if counting the minutes that went by before he drifted off again. Because he no doubt would, it was just a matter of time.
"Not complaining."
It was a low mumble that seemed to grate, but it was just from a few hours of actual quiet that his voice had grown croaky from underuse. It was rare for him to shut up for five minutes, he did hope it didn't discomfort her. But then this felt a reason to keep talking, and so he did, a sleepy sigh leaving him beforehand.
"What d'you wanna do tomorrow? I was thinking chips. And the moon, maybe. Moon chips."
Silly mutterings, of course, but it didn't matter. Even the most ridiculous suggestions would earn a reply, or a better suggestion. She was clever like that. And so he lazily shut his eyes again, cheek pressed against the top of her head, making speech even more of a mumble. Yet expression remained so serene, he wasn't quite sure how it was managed.
"Speak up, missus, don't have all night."
