At first, Byakuren didn’t know what on earth Bard was getting at–he was reaching into his suit and pulling a thin piece of paper out, and before she could even see what it was she suddenly and unexpectedly felt a chill dripping down her neck and through her spine; something terrible had happened, and suddenly she wasn’t sure if she wanted to find out what it was, if it had caused him so much pain and sorrow. Once she examined the name and title on the credential, however, it took her only a second to figure out what had happened–eyes widened and lips were pressed into a thin like so that they wouldn’t hang agape like an insensitive idiot’s, and her breath caught in her chest, heart skipping a beat. This…this meant…
“Bard,” she slowly began, completely at a loss for words; clearly he didn’t want to talk about what had happened, and she didn’t want to apologize as she knew anything she said would be an empty pleasantry without any meaning. Unfortunately, she wasn’t one for physical affection either, so she simply stood there silently for a few moments, swallowing heavily before she regained her voice once more. “I…I’m sorry to hear that…” she nearly whispered, falling victim to what she had tried to avoid; closing her mouth again so that she wouldn’t dig herself a deeper hole, she waited for him to reply–that is, if he even had anything more to say to her…
Ironically, a chuckle escaped Bard’s lips. It was almost ridiculous to think that, from one month to another, he rose up to be the headmaster of such a big organization. Indeed, the hitman didn’t get this title in an ordinary way, and it’s not a secret considering the clear changes on the other’s personality, even if it’s something he’s trying to control. Byakuren’s reaction wasn’t really unexpected, at least for him.
“It’s not your fault, you don’t need to apologise. If it’s anyone’s fault, it’s mine.” - He sighs heavily, finally turning to look at her. - “Sebastian, before I killed him, corrupted the agency. The headmaster was a puppet of his, and in the last few months a lot of hitmen targeted me. The only reason I’m still alive...” - Bard swallows, clearly getting a bit distressed with the conversation topic. - “My master eliminated them, but just when he told me...”
Shaking his head, the hitman stopped talking. He already told the heiress he didn’t want to talk much about the subject, at least for now, and it was already a ton of useless information that he just threw out of his mouth.
“I’m sorry, I just came back and I’m bothering you with these things, heh.”
