Hi! I’m a Portuguese illustrator from the 90's, focused on digital painting, portraits, fantasy art, and visual storytelling.

Barely Seen is my NSFW project centered on body positivity, freedom, self-esteem, personal expression and sexuality. My goal is to celebrate bodies in all their forms, especially the parts we often dislike, hide or feel insecure about, improving self-acceptance without shame.

I want to say a big thank you to this anonymous person, for wanting to participate in this project. The person portraited in this painting was feeling a bit insecure about her breasts. So, we decided to do painting of them to help her see the beauty in them.

Sometimes we struggle to see the beauty in our own bodies, not because it isn't there, but because it belongs to us. We fail to recognize in ourselves the same beauty that we would easily see and celebrate in others. Through art, I try to help people see it.

Hello everyone. Today I want to share not just this painting, but the story behind it.

Many of us experienced bullying when we were younger, often targeted at our bodies. Those experiences can linger, making it difficult to see our own beauty or maintain a healthy relationship with ourselves. These marks from the past act like lenses that distort our self-image, making us feel unworthy even when that couldn't be further from the truth.

@darkhippiedream is a powerful example of both this struggle and the healing that follows. She shared with me how shifting her mindset, about herself, her body, and food, was the most crucial step. From there, she took small, steady actions until she finally moved past the hatred she felt for her body.

This change in perspective was the key. It helped her realize she deserved more and inspired her to treat her body with kindness. Today, she is more at peace, which is truly beautiful.

This painting reflects her progress over the last three years, after she decided to start working out to become stronger and fitter. @darkhippiedream, your journey is incredibly inspiring. A few words from an anonymous model: "I lived my whole life hearing how my body was flawed, disgusting, too fat, too thin, without curves, with too many curves, from the people who should have loved it the most… I spent my whole life hating every centimeter of my skin and hiding it. Hiding it behind layers of loose clothes even in the heat. I stopped doing things with my friends because I didn’t want them to see how disgusting I thought I was. I didn’t fully live life because of the hatred I felt towards myself. A hatred caused by the people I loved the most.

Now, every day, I try to see myself with different eyes. I rarely succeed, but small moments, like when I look at this drawing, make it worth it, they give me hope that one day I will love myself the way I should, and the way I deserve.

Today is the day I allow myself to be vulnerable here.

I have always struggled with my self-esteem, not just about my body or my face, but about everything. I always felt like I wasn’t good enough, like others were better than me. There was always a voice telling me I didn’t deserve to be loved. I felt alone.

I’m not fully healed yet, but I can now accept that I have value. I’m starting to feel a bit better about myself, one step at a time.

Even though I’m getting better, I thought about this a hundred times before doing it. But this project is about exactly this, and that’s why I started it.

So here I am. This is my body. This is part of my story. Model: Me
