Chaotic academia is studying by candlelight, and the flame reflecting off the glitter of your glitter pen.
Imagine waking up at 4 am on a spring morning, after taking a nap at like 7 pm the night before, and going to the nearest field and bringing a blanket. You could have your breakfast there and just chill while looking up at the stars as they slowly start to fade into the blue- and then, grey- sky. Maybe you even brought a leather-bound notebook to write poetry in about the calmness and peacefullness of the energy around you. Being surrounded only by the sound of crickets, maybe even an owl or a crow. Just being alone and enjoying your own presence and forgetting about whatever else is going on in your life. Being half-awake; awake enough to remeber this moment but not awake enough to think more than two or three thoughts.
Truthfully, this is what I imagine death to feel like.
Calm.
the more you love
the more you suffer.
Vincent Van Gogh
for those who do not love their education deeply
you are not 'spoilt'
you are not 'wasting' anything or anyone's time
the educational system is awful & you have every right to speak out against it
a teacher must teach you, but they must also entertain and encourage you. if they do not, that is out of your control
most dark academics are making the best of a bad situation
your mental health matters more than grades
not every subject will thrill & excite you. not enjoying literature, poetry or art doesn't make you a 'fake' academic
you can enjoy a subject without studying it & you have every right to say you enjoy it
barely passing or failing a course is not the end of the world. you will get better, whether that means continuing the course or dropping it for your true passion
sometimes you're not good at something, even if you love it. don't sacrifice your mental & physical health to pass a course that you find impossible, but let yourself enjoy it if you can
remember your worth is not in your grades.
Oscar Wilde - The Picture of Dorian Gray
i really like just knowing things. learning new things is great of course but it truly does hit differently when you see a painting and know which era it's from and why it was painted in that way particular and how the artist was influenced by their time. it's nice just knowing how an author grew up and how that might have influenced a novel of theirs. it is a good feeling

here’s your reminder
to never become that person
with broken dreams,
stuck in a passionless job,
and living a mundane life;
you can do so much better than that,
become someone that you thought
you could only hope to be.

seeing glimpses of your past from old scribbles found in worn diaries, faded clothes that were once a signature style of your little self, dusty stuffed animals, children fairytale books, cracked glasses, a collection of coins and odd trinkets inside a cardboard box, just old things from an age that passed by, leaves a story, a reflection where once we thought of ourselves immortal now we’re in a path of finding ourselves, trying to find the same passion abundant in us as children, or spiraling down in another existential crisis, self-depreciation episodes, the thought of ending it all. we’re not as strong and capable as we thought we were. we become the villains we hate, yet identify with. it’s sad leaving the golden age of childhood, but as we lie awake in our rooms, staring at a dark ceiling, tears seeping uncontrollably, we find solace in our isolation, and sometimes even hope.
stem dark academia is so beautiful.
scratched notes of equations, detailed diagrams with annotations of bones & blood vessels, old notebooks containing maths problems invented & solved in a quiet afternoon.
classical music blasting from a cheap speaker. cold university dorms with posters of animal bones & carcass that were too beautiful to be passed.
debates over conservation expectations, dancing to the sound of rain after a long lecture. sleepless nights in the library, staring at a screen that no longer makes sense.
kind professors in tweed jackets & loose blouses, demonstrating how to calculate a sum, or take apart a specimen.
dirty fingernails from field work, dirty lab coats from schoolwork.
only interact if you want to fight. no friends just enemies
I've just finished reading The Cruel Prince and let me tell y'all this book has more plot twists than my love life
What if... we were two ladies meeting at a ball in the older times... and we laughed and danced together until it was midnight and you had to go home.... and when you were getting into your carriage, i accidentally touched your ungloved hands.... and we couldn't help but exchange shy glances...
wait so your moms didn’t yell at you for showing any emotion, especially for crying???? we are rlly not the same huh
that shot of snape from behind in godric’s hollow, with the blue lightning and black smoke swirling around him in that waist-hugging outfit > the rest of cinematic history
James: I bully Snape because he exists and because, per JKR, I envy his relationship with Lily
Antis: James bullied Snape because he was a nazi and he was into dark magic and also he could see that in the future he'd threaten a toad once, so can you really blame him???
