A Collection of Symbols
My symbology pages from one of my grimoires. I tend to do this in every book because I never fail to stumble across new sigils, symbols, and glyphs. Of course I must jot down my favorites. đ€
Imma tell you something for nothing. Do not trust people who say they can give you "attunement" to entities for the low low price of one bazillion dollars. You can do that shit yourself. Be it by constantly invoking the spirit, or even drawing their sigil on a paper and meditating on it. You will become attuned to their particular energy, and will exhibit it. Strongest case scenario, sit down and draw that spirit's sigil on your body. Invoke them and ask them to possess you for a bit, go into it slow, do partial possession.
Something I think is often overlooked is that spirits can behave offensively.
They're not bound by manners or etiquette and I don't just mean speaking politely. Spirits can revel in offending. And they will use any topic that makes you uncomfortable in order to do it.
This doesn't make a spirit bad or evil. In fact, it's often a technique the spirit uses to deliberately make you uncomfortable, to test how you will react to their language or vulgarity.
So the question is: Can you push past discomfort to see what the underlying message is? Can you step back and examine why you're uncomfortable? And more importantly- can you learn from it?
Spirits aren't bound by our morals or ethics, and it's important to remember that this also extends to our social codes.
as someone who has had the grave of a parent disturbed for a stranger's witchcraft purposes*, it's always difficult to me when i see posts talking about taking things from graves (markers, plants, things people left for their loved ones) or burying things near, beside, at graves to charge a working or a tool.
i understand that a lot of witchcraft walks the lines between the living and the dead, but i don't think it's actually respectful to the dead or their spirits when you're disturbing graves, and it's not respectful to their living loved ones either. i think it brings up consent issues, but it also brings up issues of entitlement. i, a witch, struggle with the fact that someone else clearly felt entitled to my dead parent and their peace for a magical working.
*here's what i mean by disturbed in my particular situation because i know some people might ask what i mean : someone identifying as a necromancer and ceremonial mage was taking things from my father's grave and burying their workings there because of our surname (they associated the name with a profession and ethnicity that they felt would "charge" their working and bless it). it was all caught on camera after we got permission to set up security cameras after the grave was disturbed multiple times and things were stolen from it. the person was also keeping things taken from the grave on an altar for "charging spirit vessels" and admitted to believing they had "captured" my father's spirit and taken it home with them for magical workings. and the person eventually picked up criminal charges for the thefts, trespassing, and vandalizing graves.
Anon, this is legitimately horrifying and I am so sorry to hear that this happened to you and your family. I'm glad that person was charged - no one should be desecrating graves, no matter what their practice entails. There are definitely right and respectful ways to approach spirits in the cemetery without resorting to stealing items left behind by loved ones.
Thank you for sharing this â€ïž

I think my homemade God should have a tea pet dedicated to it where I pour offerings on it. I say ''homemade God'' however it's only partially true. I always give my offerings to the Earth because I don't live alone but if *** gets an altar, I'll give it ouroboros related stuff, birds and various other things. If I have a tea pet, it feels like I'm actually feeding it.
Everybody else's deities don't really have offerings poured on their statues. Maybe I'd also ought to give *** a tea pet and an oil pet for leftover spell oils just 'cause...or they can be the same object.
The tea pet itself will not be a thoughtform, its just a ''mouth'' for my God. Insert parallels to the Golden calf idol here.
Hello Lailoken! I keep noticing that older charms and stories make a point of doing things âthriceâ. Stuff like knocking three times, circling three times, repeating a name three times, even when once would theoretically seem sufficient. Do you think this is just a mnemonic habit or was the number meant to actually do something?
Based on my upringing and oersonal understanding, repetition in these contexts is rarely for emphasis alone. It is a way of establishing position.
Many folk actions are not performed in an empty world but in one presumed to have depthâsurface, verge, and beyond. A single act occurs only in the immediate place. A second confirms it. The third carries it across.
You can see this in formulaic speech. The first utterance addresses what is plainly present, the second reaches what is nearby but unseen, and the third fixes the matter so that it cannot easily be mistaken as accidental. After three, the action is no longer occurring; it has occurred.
This is also why the third is often the binding one. Promises sworn thrice, names called thrice, and knocks given thrice move from attempt to declaration. The number is less mystical than procedural: it converts a moment into a state.
So the practice persists not because people forgot how to count lower, but because three marks the point at which an action is understoodâby both speaker and surroundingsâto have taken hold.
Hello Lucien, I hope you're well! About the asks on fae lineages, I understand then that you don't believe the Fair Folk to have been Ancestors of the past, remote Kings and Queens or historical figures ascended into "Godhood", but entirely separate from humans? Where do you stand in relation to that common theory that fairies are the deceased? particularly as it pertains to fairy processions and mounds being burial sites. I would personally be inclined to believe that the term "fairies" include the deceased or spectral images of the past, among them great Heroes and Royals of the distant past or forebearers of great lineages, but certainly not all fairies are deceased humans. And you?
I donât hold to the idea that the Fair Folk are simply deified human ancestors, nor that they are wholly unrelated to humanity.
Anglo-Celtic folklore repeatedly places the Fae in an intermediate conditionânot gods, not ghosts, but a people who overlap the human dead in certain states. Across Anglo-Celtic cultures, you see three consistent threads:
1) The mound is both a fairy dwelling and a grave.
Barrows, cairns, and tumuli are simultaneously sĂde (fairy hills) and burial places. The dead are placed into the earth, yet afterward lights move there, music is heard, and riders emerge in procession. The living do not say âa ghost came out of the graveââthey say the hill opened.
This implies not haunting but continuation. The person buried does not linger as a shadeâthey enter a community.
2) The "Faerie Host" often behaves like the dead in the context of mythic pattern.
Night rides, the Wild Hunt, the Sluagh, and the procession of the Good People resemble funerary retinues for a reason. They travel in companies, keep ranks, carry torches, and move along old roads and boundariesâexactly the paths of funeral passage. Encounters are often said to leave witnesses weak, drained, or âtaken,â which even mirrors the old belief that the dead draw vitality from the living. Likewise, in several traditions, the newly dead may be seen riding among the Fae within a year of burial.
This similarity to human funerary practices may very well stem from human attempts to understand, mimic, and appease the otherworld, but they may also represent a vestigial continuance of human practices within ranks of fae spirits that once were, but are no longer, human.
3) âElfâ historically overlaps with âthe powerful dead.â
In early English usage ĂŠlf was not a tiny glittering being, but an unseen causing spiritâresponsible for illness, trance, inspiration, and beauty beyond human measure. In Norse belief, burial mounds of notable men became sites of cult, and the dead within were called elves (ĂĄlfar). Offerings were given to them seasonally as one would to land spirits.
So rather than âhumans become gods,â the pattern might be said to look more like this: While the ordinary dead rejoin with divinity, the restless dead become ghosts/wraiths, the settled dead become ancestral spirits, and the potent/integrated dead become elves.
In other words, some fair folk were once human, but not recently humanâthey have crossed a threshold of belonging to the Otherworldâs society. They are no longer tethered to their humanity, yet not primordial spirits either. They are the assimilated dead. This also explains why folklore insists both that fairies predate mankind and that humans can join them. The host is older than any one people, but continually receives members.
So I would say, the Fair Folk are not merely the deceasedâbut the dead are one of the ways the Fair Folk are populated. Certain humans, especially those buried in old ways, remembered ongoingly, or who were powerful in life, may enter that company. Beyond the sheer liminality of the sites, Faerie mounds being tied to burial sites is not coincidence; it is mechanism.
The Gloaming Folk are a "civilization" partly "indigenous" to the Otherworld and partly "recruited" from humanity across timeâwhich is part of why various wights feel so uncannily familiar, yet never quite human.
I really don't need it,it's most likely a phase but tell me why do I want to buy a chef apron that says ''Kiss the my ass'' and a chefs hat so I can wear it when I do my magic and wizardry just for shits and giggles. Or maybe I can wear it when I'm making food too.
Yeah, I got two robes and two cloaks but those aren't my exclusive spell outfits. I am magic already so I just lounge around in my house wearing my wizard shit if I'm cold. The sleeves are too long to be practical without getting dirty/wet/catch on fire.
You should lowkey just DIY one
I know that the original on Fangamer is about 24 dollars but it's pixelated to hell and back. I'm not much of a ''draw the words on with sharpie myself'' kind of person either. I would rather go on etsy and pay someone to put the words on themselves and it might(?) be better than a classic dollar general apron because they have to physically obtain the materials, sew it and then put words on it.
Maybe.

Yeah, I got two robes and two cloaks but those aren't my exclusive spell outfits. I am magic already so I just lounge around in my house wearing my wizard shit if I'm cold. The sleeves are too long to be practical without getting dirty/wet/catch on fire.
Got my work closed for a few days because of snow out of pure spite by angrily singing the snow miser song in my head after walking out.
No candles or herbs, just bare naked spite music.
Since I've already been meditating on so-called 'true evil',I'm just going to tell you what I've realized for a while.
So the universe is created and the Earth was formed. The very first lifeforms:bacteria, came into existence. What were they doing? Eating because that's all they could do. They ate basically chemicals and the most simple lifeforms were made of chemicals. They ate each other too. They killed each other. What am I going with this?
Before there was kindness and empathy, there was evil. Well, murder specifically. There had to be evil before the bacteria learned about avoiding the other bacteria that could eat them. And then years passed, evolution happened and now we can feel empathy.
So-called 'Evil' as a concept is fundamentally baked into EVERYTHING in this universe and even right now, our cells die to make new ones and our body produces stuff that also kill each other to keep us alive.
You're gonna tell me that hack ass philosophers and occultists in the past could write about the so-called ''fall of man'' because of our ability to murder and steal even though nature created these things without further prompting?
Your universe can't possibly be made out of love and light because shit DIES AND THE MOST SIMPLE LIFEFORMS IN EXISTENCE KILL EACH OTHER. We have teach our own babies empathy otherwise they'll be messed up.
Common on, really?
Evil is just nature manifesting in inconvenient ways and that's that. There's no occult book on this planet that could ever convince me that goodness came first before evil.
The problem about so-called energetically aligning someone to an ascended timeline makes me think about how you would get the perfect life in theory and you're hogging all the good energies but all the other versions of you aren't going to get any of the perfect timeline energies. Since you would be in perfect timeline, you aren't going to do energy work to help the other hypothetical selves in other dimensions therefore they're ''stuck''. Can more than one ''you'' be in the perfect timeline? I don't think so.
It would be better if you helped everybody in every dimension in every timeline instead of just hogging all the blessings to yourself. Like throw spells around...?
Well actually I don't know about what I believe in terms of timelines and magic, this is just a thought experiment that I posted online so someone could throw their opinions at me.
Devin Splintergiver is the guy whose only weapon is an unsanded 2x4
Well duh he needs it to cast powerful splinter spells.
I tried to give myself a super cool wizard name on Wizard101 but my Rog Ally ruined my finger inputs now I'm just Devin SplinterGiver.
I didn't want to be Devin I wanted to be Demetrius but I guess the universe had other plans.
