Progressive Field 5/30
9/21/18 Indians vs Red Sox
We were excited about this game, even before the trip. Becky’s favorite team is the Red Sox and this was her only Boston game this year. It was mildly disappointing since it was the game after Boston locked up the division the night before and mostly the B-team was on the field. But we loved Progressive Field and had a great time. Final Score: 7-5 Red Sox
BEER SELECTION: 4/5 In right field, there was a large bar area that had a lot of various craft breweries on tap from around the country. It was a nice selection. There was also more than just Miller or Bud Light available at most food stands and had a wide selection of brews on tap.
FOOD: 5/5 Cleveland offered a lot in the food department. There were so many choices, it was difficult to decide. We both ended up trying a hot dog topped with pimento mac and cheese, bacon, and Froot Loops. It was an interesting combination, but we liked it. The hot dog stand had several options, including a pierogi topped hot dog and veggie topped hot dog. There were also several other stands that had mini hot dog sliders, barbeque, nachos, burritos, and grilled cheese. It would have been nice to go to another game just to try some more of the food options.
TRADITIONS: 2/5 “Hang On Sloopy,” was a pretty big deal. The whole stadium sang along and spelled O-H-I-O during the chorus. There was also mascot race with hot dogs, which was somewhat entertaining.
OVERALL AMBIANCE: 4/5 The feeling of Progressive Field was great. There were several nods to the history of the team with a small area in right center field with plaques and statues to great players and managers. It was an awesome place to see a baseball game.
FANS: 5/5 Still no bad experiences. Everyone seemed to be into the game and had a great time no matter who they were rooting for.
MASCOTS: Slider is the mascot for the Indians. He was present on the field most of the game between innings. He also looks like a pink-ish Philly Phanatic. There also were the 3 hot dogs that ran in the mascot race as well.
SUPER ROPES: No
COMMENTS: There were several nice amenities at the ballpark. The scoreboard was huge, although we were sitting in the bleachers underneath it, so we couldn’t see what it had on it during the game. There was also some lockers that were free that were charging stations for your phone. We were both blown away by all the food options as well. The concourses were large and had a lot of room to move around as well.
OVERALL SCORE: 4/5 Progressive Field was great and we both enjoyed it a lot, it was almost on par with PNC Park. We both would think about a return trip in the future.
