A look pure awe flicked across Skylar’s face, followed by an expression of contemplation and confusion. “That’s so deep, it’s like an abyss. It’s a really cool idea though, that every person is a mystery that’s not meant to be understand. We’re all just a result of a bunch of people’s actions and choices too, so we’re so much more than just our story.”
“Kids do learn pretty quickly. Get burned once, and you usually don’t do it again - I guess in your case a little more literal than normal.” He nodded humming, “I think most kids bug their mothers. My mom insists that I used to stand at her knee and pull on her skirt every five minutes.”
“I... d-don’t know that w-word,” he admitted sheepishly, looking down. “Abyss. I d-don’t know it.” Still, Basile smiled a bit. “But y-yes, I agree. We’re m-made up of s-s-so many d-different things, s-some we’ll n-never know about. It’s h-how you can know s-s-someone better than th-they know themselves. Y-You can s-s-see things that they c-can’t.”
Basile chuckled, nodding his head. “Y-Yes, very l-literal f-f-for me,” he agreed. “S-Sounds like Maman. She used to s-s-say that that w-was the only w-word I knew how to s-s-say. She’d a-ask if I knew a-any other w-words besides Maman and I-I’d always sh-shake my head and t-tell her no. B-But then, of c-course, that was a-another word.”
