‘Such a beautiful disaster And if I could hold on Through the tears and the laughter Would it be beautiful or just a beautiful disaster?’
Beautiful Disaster - Kelly Clarkson
Teresa focused on her writing while listening to the boy in front of her. She acknowledged him observing the stain he made curiously. She wondered if he actually knew how to remove it. She put her own pen down and reached into her bag next to her for her wand.
She pointed her wand at the stain and whispered scourgify. Most of the stain vanished. There was only a faint hint of the accident. Teresa could see he was also sort of covered in ink but she felt it wasn’t quite approriate to point a wand at someone and cast a spell without asking.
She would be the one to screw up and make his shirt fly off or something. Just the thought made her blush profusely and she went back to writing her essay, her wand tucked back into her bag.“What about magic?” she asked. That had to be so much better than bread. Honestly she could come up with a list of things better than bread but she had to focus on dinner plates.“Any good at transfiguration?” I mean if she was going to have a conversation with the guy at least they could help each other with their work as well.
He blushed when she managed to do what he struggled so often to do - magic. “Thanks,” he mumbled just loud enough that she would hear it. He wiped his still slightly wet hands off again on his jeans, watching the ink smear into the denim material. Then he pulled out the textbook that he would need to do the essay that was due.
“Well of course magic, but that’s been around longer than sliced bread,” he reasoned. Flipping open the book he looked up at her question and offered a sort of half shrug. “I’m pretty good at the theory part of it.” He didn’t want to outright admit that magic wasn’t something he was good at, given that he was seemingly surrounded by people who excelled at it.
teddyhawkins:
Teddy, who managed to have his wand handy even when navigating the humdrum plains of Nebraska, couldn’t fathom just leaving it behind in his dorm. Either way, he set to tergeo-ing the ink away, pleased to watch the dark splatters disappear off the white paper. “It’s good to meet you, Skylar Tibbets,” Teddy replied easily, figuring that ‘I’ve heard of you’ was inevitably something the other had heard before, and not necessarily the most promising response. “Mind if I keep you company while you write your many apologies?”
Watching the ink disappear was very satisfying, even if he had seen similar things happen several times before. “Pleasure’s mine, I’m sure.” He shook his head at the next question, “Of course not, the company would be appreciated. I have plenty to write, and then I have to try and remember names again. You working on anything interesting?”
terripatterson:
She watched him wipe up the exploded pen with a wet towelette. She was almost curious if he had forgotten that they used magic. The pen ink didn’t completely come off and now there was a distinctive black stain on the table. She stared at it for a moment wondering if she should clean it up herself. Maybe she would wait until he left. He looked ready to leave before planting himself down again. A pencil? Not that she hated pencils. Pencils were alright. But she couldn’t help but wonder why he would use one.
“There are so many greater things, though. The internet, contraception, ya know.” she responded, actually thinking of more. Not that this was entirely relevant but the conversation was distracting her from this stupid essay.
Skylar stared at the black stain and wondered if he should try to magic it off. His wand was right there in his bag, but if he tried he might light the table on fire and further humiliate himself in front of a cute girl. He chewed on the inside of his lip, trying to remember the spell. “Oh true, phones and reality television. Lots of things really.” Maybe he could keep her distracted long enough to figure out the spell without fire being involved.

The Transfigured Mop Dressed in Human Clothes was right—the worst idea would be if Jake actually got him to try this, and there wasn’t a crowd to watch. He made a mental note to find something to draw people near to Jonker Hall at a moment’s notice. “Of course it’s not against the rules. Even if it were, I’d have you covered, bud. I’ve been here for ages, the faculty love me. You’ll never face consequences from those dicks, not as long as I’m around.” He gave the kid a reassuring smile. “In fact, if you’re ever in trouble, just let me know, and I’ll be there in a flash.” With a camera. And some kind of incendiary device, in case there was opportunity to lend some extra excitement to the situation.
Skylar grinned widely at his dorm-mate, the offer seemed so kind. It wasn’t necessary for the day - he already out of his room for the most part. “Thanks, maybe I’ll do it tomorrow. Basically out of the room now anyways.” Did all friendships start with one party on the floor? It was certainly starting to feel like that. “Really? That’s super cool of you but I couldn’t impose on you like that all the time.”
teddyhawkins:
Teddy cringed as the other spoke.Traps? “No need to write me a letter,” he replied lifting one hand in an ‘I’m good’ gesture. “I’m Teddy Hawkins. Salemite. Abbott by trade.” He watched the other scrabble with ink-stained paper for the briefest of moments before tugging his wand free from the knapsack. “Did you need any help?” Teddy asked brightly.
“Perfect!” Skylar grinned, glad that he had seemingly eliminated one person from the otherwise neverending list. “Tibbets, I mean Skylar. Skylar Tibbets. Hogwartian of Gryffindor.” It was a struggle to introduce himself for some odd reason. “That would be great, I’ve left my wand in my room again.”
teddyhawkins:
The great, the infamous, the… far less imposing in person. Teddy really should have recognized the pale-eyed Hogwarts student from living alongside each other for almost two months. He had heard a great deal about Skylar Tibbets, but the ink-covered individual was somehow precisely what he expected, and yet not enough. “Hello,” he greeted the other amicably, taking a seat while simultaneously taking care to keep his knapsack away from the growing mess. “Whatcha up to?”
Skylar only sort of recognized the person in front of him and couldn’t come up with a name which made him feel ever worse. “I’m writing apology letters, every morning there’s like a trap outside of my room, so I think I might have angered someone. But I don’t know who so I’m just going to apologize to everyone. And I’d like to start right now, I’m sorry for the mess and I’m even more sorry that I don’t know your name.” He started trying to clean up the ink with the already splattered pages.
grace--raleigh:
She kept waiting for discomfort to descend, as it normally did whenever she was around someone she didn’t know all that well. But despite being only really acquainted with Skylar on a school-mate sort of level, she was still okay as she recovered. He pinky-promised her, and she smiled a little, even beyond her nerves, locking her finger with his. “Thank you Skylar, you—you don’t know what that means to me. A lot,” she clarified, after a beat.
Taking a deep breath, she let it out, and felt more normal. “Let’s get you to the Infirmary, yeah? It’ll help me feel better, as well as you,” she confessed.
He grinned softly back at her when she took his offer, and nodded understandingly at her thanks. “No problem, only doing what’s right.” She had always been kind to him, caring even so to be able to return the favour felt nice. “Sure, I’m sure Nurse Redfern is looking at the clock wondering how I haven’t ended up there yet. Might as well let her know nothing terrible has happened, right?” His tone was joking and he opened the door, holding it for her.

terripatterson:
She didn’t hate the library as some of her fellow students might. However, on a pleasant and warm afternoon with a hundred better things she could be doing it was fair to say Terri was not in the best of moods. And, if anyone knew Terri enough, she wasn’t very productive when she was upset. She practically wanted to rip her hair out. Still managing to keep her calm composure. This essay on turning regular dinner plates into fine china was absolutely the most obnoxious and annoying thing she’d ever had to write. Who cared about the why it worked. It worked, that was all that mattered, right? Terri knew it wasn’t, but she didn’t really care enough at the moment. She was about give it up when across from her a pen had just exploded in a guy’s hand. It was irrationally funny but she didn’t laugh. She kept eye contact for a bit before acknowledging that he had greeted her most awkwardly. “Hi..,” she enunciated shifting a bit uncomfortably in her seat. “You’ll probably want to clean that up, I have another pen if you need it?” she said trying to be at least a bit helpful.
Skylar grinned slightly at the equally as awkward introduction, and wiped his hand off on hisjeans. “Yeah,” he sighed - cleaning the table off with a wet wipe from the package in his bag. “Oh no thanks, I think I’m going to take this as divine intervention.” He started to pack up the beginnings of what he had been doing when it suddenly hit him that he had an essay that was due - which of course he hadn’t even started. “And so I’m going to use a pencil,” he said, pulling one out of his bag. “Mechanical pencils the best thing since sliced bread.”
Skylar was sitting in the library muttering to himself as he made a list in a notebook. He was struggling to remember the names of everyone that he had interacted with in the past month which was frustrating to him. Under his breath, he vowed to make sure to learn more names of everyone that he so much as walked past. Then he pulled out a stack of printer paper and began to furiously write apology letters. A few moments later, his pen exploded in his hand and he groaned loudly before looking over and making awkward eye contact with another student. “Hi,” he said, dragging out the i sound for far too long.
jakecarsonmitchell:
“Bizarre… Well, have you? Angered anyone, spider or otherwise,” Jake suggested. “Also, have you considered going out the window instead, or just Apparating to class maybe? There’s probably a spare broom laying around here somewhere, I could take a look.” Please, fates, be kind. Let him go for being airborne. There was no way on the planet that wouldn’t make things ten times worse for Tibbets, and Jake was so here for that.
“I don’t think so,” he answered, a frown marring his usually happy face. Perhaps he ought to send out apologies anyways just in case, but he’d need to make a list of recipients which meant getting off the floor. Surely it could wait. At the next suggestion, he hummed slightly as he considered the two options. Apparition was out of the question, seeing as he didn’t have his license and he generally struggled with it. However, he had gotten marginally better at flying over the years so maybe that wouldn’t be disastrous “Not the best idea but not the worst either,” he mumbled, not realizing that he had spoken aloud. “There aren’t campus rules against that are there?” he asked, naively trusting his dorm-mate to tell the truth and to have his best interests at heart.
Headcanon: Skylar only knows of Ted Cruz as the Zodiac Killer, so if you mention him in terms of politics he will think that the Zodiac Killer got involved with the GOP. (Queue his genuine comments about Donald Trump being endorsed by the Zodiac Killer.)
jakecarsonmitchell:
“That’s so weird,” he agreed, stirring his coffee thoughtfully. ‘Every morning, you say?”
“It is. Yup every morning. Yesterday, it looked like I really angered a spider,” he explained.
“That looked like it hurt. You okay? I could get you some ice,” he said, smirking slightly.
“This keeps happening every morning, super weird. I’m fine I think.” He was laying on the ground staring up at his roommate.
grace--raleigh:
Grace wanted to protest, but she really did need a few moments to collect herself, and was incredibly appreciative of Skylar allowing her that. She stayed quiet, focusing on controlling her breathing and not letting the panic spin out of control. Looking over at him, she was also ridiculously glad that he was who she’d been with for this, and she was grateful it hadn’t been a stranger.
Her voice felt more like her own, when she spoke again. “I know—I know that you won’t, but just. Don’t tell anyone about this, okay?” The people at this Summit could very well be connections that would carry her where she wanted to go in her life— when she eventually figured out where exactly that was. She didn’t know if she could handle having them think she was scared off by some silly prank.
Skylar was glad that she didn’t argue, she deserved to put herself first sometimes without having to be forced to. The silence was nice, and he could hear her breathing slowly evening out ever-so-slightly. He smiled softly at her question and shook his head, “Never Grace, promise. Pinky promise even.” He offered his good pinky finger, as a sign of his loyalty.
Izumi smiled slightly at Skylar’s compliment, slowly raising her head from his arms and looking a him. “You are a good friend.” She whispered, as quietly as she could so people wouldn’t turn again.. “I guess, we could go together to talk to the pizza guy.” She muttered, before holding unto his arm. “But, please don’t leave me. I don’t know if I can handle it on my own.”
Skylar smiled brightly, “So are you.” The agreement came easily and he gently patted at her hand where it was clutching onto his arm. “I’m sure you’ll be impressed by Mr Jeffries, he is beyond chill. Of course I won’t leave you, that wouldn’t be very nice.” He walked over with her to where the Pizza Man was standing alone. “Hello again! This is my friend Izumi.”
