Future Lucy Alternate Universe Theory

So this is a theory I’ve had for a long time. Let’s begin by revisiting the 15th ending song for the Fairy Tail anime, right around the GMG arc.

This particular ending song has always struck me as out of place. Rather than the usual cutesy chibi animations, we got what looks to scenes depicting a version of Natsu and Lucy from an entirely alternate universe. Now alternate universes is nothing new. We know that the Edolas is an alternate universe with Fairy Tail series, but it’s likely that there are even more than just Edolas. In fact, it’s probably the case that each one of Hiro Mashima’s works is in some way an alternate universe of it’s own. Each universe shares similarities and differences with each other. Eden’s Zero, for example, has their own version of Natsu and Lucy running around going on dates.

But this got me thinking….What about different timelines like future Lucy’s? More specifically, what happens when everyone dies? We know that when you die in the Fairy Tail world, you first go through a beta heaven constructed by your own mind before you pass on. We can probably safely that the golden grasslands that Lucy went through was her version of beta heaven. But what happens after that? Do they go to a real heaven? Do all the different version of every character go to the same real heaven, or is there a different real heaven per universe?

Then it hit me like a truck. What if when you die in one of Hiro Mashima’s universe, you get….reincarnated into another world? Let’s take it one step further. What if the version of Natsu and Lucy that we saw in the 15 ending song of the anime was actually the reincarnated of future Lucy’s timeline? Well then that gives the scenes depicted in that song a whole different meaning. What we have here now is not just random shipping scenes, but the depiction of future Lucy reuniting with her version of Natsu after they were both reincarnated. Lucy looks to be waiting for someone (perhaps a date), but they didn’t show up. She leaves, and along the way she crosses paths with Natsu. They were going to pass each other by, but then they both felt a sense of familiarity with each other and ended up going on a date. Natsu then shows her the Fairy Tail symbol. So that’s it. Happy ending for future Lucy right?
