it’s like. yes i think the safety of people who engage in sex work is important… and that being conservative about sex helps nobody… but i also think porn is depressingly, absurdly evil beyond words as an industry. there is no way we can comprehend how much damage it has done to society. like… some girls say they like sex work but how can those feelings be considered equal to the literal destruction that industry has caused? all of us know about how it’s inextricably linked to pedophilia, violence, trafficking… i think it’s repulsive when affluent first worlder women think sex work is empowering because they know they’re protected and won’t be damaged by the industry the way women in the global south are. honestly ages ago i saw a joke text post on here like ‘don’t make an onlyfans. go to trade school instead’ and you know i’m thinking we’d be better off if more of us literally did that instead of being influenced by influencers

#somebody on tiktok said this better than me but also#sex work can be empowering on an individual level but not to women as a whole#like the sex work industry does not literally empower women. it does not give us more power or status in society. it does nothing to#dismantle patriarchal systems. in fact it upholds it.#it’s the same with the whole girlboss white feminist etc movement#getting a nose job or wearing ‘natural makeup’ or bimbofication or whatever tf they’re calling it#can be empowering to one person bc it makes them feel confident#but it is not inherently feminist or radical or empowering to women#you can’t dismantle patriarchy while also benefiting from it#like if your feminism is derived from things that just happen to be exactly what men tend to want you to do…. re-examine it maybe  *credit @spacestylans
