;;awkward encounters
ringeneering:
Rin was gathering his own things, books and papers and lecture notes, so he didnât notice any clumsiness on Reiâs part. He had a sheaf of papers in a folder â god, he really needed to consider digital notetaking â that tended to be a bit unwieldy. Maybe heâd look into thatâŠ
They stepped out of the cafe and Rin blinked a little as his eyes adjusted to the light. Rin headed for the library, walking quietly. He wasnât sure where to start as far as conversation was concerned.Â
He knew that he did not wish to discuss their⊠night together. If one could even call it that. Rin didnât remember it much, so he didnât know how much it counted. He supposed heâd know how much it counted after a quick trip to a doctor for sexually transmitted infection testing.
As Rei asked about where Rin was from, he turned to look at him. âIwatobi,â Rin said. âYou?â
Rinâs response to his question rather surprised him, and he turned to look at him with a clear expression of that on his face. âReally? Thatâs where Iâm from--â What are the odds that they would both be from there and wind up meeting like this.Â
âWe must have gone to different high schools I suppose, or you would at least seem familiar,â he added after a moment, adjusting his glasses with a brief nod. Apparently the two of them had more in common that he had thought as he snuck away that morning.Â
It made him feel a little better about everything. Their way of meeting still made him feel awkward, but it could have been worse, in the end. There was at least the potential that they could become friends from all of this.Â
âWhat school did you go to?âÂ
;;fallen captain
downyheart:
Ai pressed his lips together, feeling helpless and like heâd crossed a line with his prying.  But he could see how true Ryuugazakiâs words were.  How much he truly wished he could continue swimmingâŠ
He remembered a passing conversation with Rin last year, as Samezukaâs previous captain headed to the locker rooms late in the evening.  Ai was just leaving and surprised to see him.  âReiâs coming over to practice,â Rin had said bluntly, like that wasnât strange at all to teach a competitor in his free time.  It had become something that a number of Samezuka members knew about but never spoke of, out of respect for Rin and Rei both.  Rei had worked so hardâŠ
âWhat if Hazuki didnât know?â Ai blurted out.  The room seemed unnervingly quiet after he said it.  What was he trying to suggest exactly?  âI mean⊠ I wouldnât tell anyoneâŠâ  His words petered out and the helplessness washed in again.
Rei looked up in surprise at Nitoriâs words. Not tell Nagisa that he wasnât supposed to be swimming and continue to do exactly that? He would be lying if he said that the thought hadnât crossed his mind a few times since his doctorâs appointment.Â
And he wasnât planning to continue swimming competitively once he reached college. While he enjoyed it now, it wouldnât be the same without the current teammates, and he likely wouldnât be able to manage it with what he plans. So even if it did destroy his shoulder, he didnât need it for something like this ever again.Â
He chewed his lip as he thought it over, adjusting his glasses out of habit more than necessity. âIf Nagisa-kun didnât know, and you didnât tell anyone.... I guess it could be possible to continue swimming,â he spoke after a moment. Most of the responsibility would fall onto his own shoulders, of course. Heâd only gone to the doctor because of the twinge in his shoulder, and that would only get worse as he continued to push himself.Â
But it would have to happen if he wanted to continue being captain and swimming with his teammates.Â

ringeneering:
Ah, internship. The bane of all of their existences. Every sciences or engineering guy Rin knew was gunning for a great internship, and it was a stressful topic at the best of times. He didnât like to think about it too much, really. Speaking of, he really needed to â
Oh! Rei said yes?
That was unexpected. Rin grinned a little. âGreat,â he said.â It took a certain kind of person to appreciate an invitation to do research together. Honestly, it could almost be considered a date, given how theyâd met and all. That thought made him cough a little, but Rin quickly bent to gather his things in an effort to cover it.
âI was just about to get going,â said Rin. âSo if youâre fine with drinking coffee while youâre walking, we can head that way together.â He smiled again, softer this time. It would be nice to have someone to chat with about their respective fields.
Picking up his bag, Rin shouldered it and swallowed the last of his coffee. He glanced down at Rei, waiting for a moment.Â
Rei nodded as Rin mentioned he was heading out, and he set his cup down long enough to stand and shoulder his bag before he picked it back up. His nerves were still showing through slightly in his almost clumsy movements, but he was hoping that Rin wouldnât be able to notice that. They hardly knew each other, after all.Â
Although that wasnât the most comforting of thoughts for him, especially considering how they met. But he seemed nice, and he was hopeful that they could at least be friends after everything. They seemed to get along well enough.Â
He pulled himself from his thoughts as he followed Rin from the cafe. There were a few moments of quiet while he thought of something to talk about, something simple-- even small things would help him get to know Rin better.Â
âSo where are you from?â Easy. And if he knew the town then that would lead into even more possible conversations. He was rather proud of himself for managing that.Â

âHow thâa fuck else wouldjaâ explain hangovers, huh?â He questions, throwing it right back at the glasses wearing male. After a quick inspection of the bluenetâs face, he finds the glasses in question to be crooked, and shortly after snickers again.
âHey, hey, you gotta come home with me, okay?â Heâs dealt with this drunk idiocy before. Heâs friends with Sousuke. âMister calculator-bullshit.â
âYour bodyâs d.. d...â Rei paused, unable to find the word he was thinking of, âYou donât have enough water.âÂ
That made sense to his muddled and sluggish mind at the moment, and he wasnât technically wrong. But it also wasnât a phrasing he would normally use. He frowned after a moment and cocked his head in Rinâs direction. âWhy do I have to go home with you?â The question was posed in an almost childish tone-- he couldnât help it at this point.
And I would put my own happiness aside in a heartbeat just to assure you were okay.

Gou nodded in agreement. âYes, your right. We should check if they can float and then what swim style to know. From there I think we can come up a game plan on training.â Feeling pumped, Gou grinned brightly at him. âRei, this is so exciting! I canât wait to see what this year will hold for us.â
âIâm definitely getting excited now that I know we can continue,â he agreed with a smile and an adjustment of his glasses. âIâll come up with a schedule for tomorrow and get it to you sometime during the day so youâll know what weâre doing during practice,â he told her as he tucked the list of applicants into his bag. âAnd weâll have to see if we have enough funding this year to get new uniforms as well--â he was already building the list of what needed done in his head as he spoke, eager to begin the year on the right track.

Frustration is never fun. Gazes slowly rolling toward him againânormally theyâre     enough to at least ENCOURAGE Tooru that he has some talent of his own after     building up experience. Today it only serves to add PRESSURE.
UP goes another ball as the brunet tries to jump and serve again, still not able to     produce the amount of power he WANTS to. Clicking his tongue in disappoint-     ment, hazel eyes turn on a bespectacled young man at this point.
â Oi, Rei-chan, how STRONG do you think you are? â
Caught again-- but the question makes him pause as he cocks     his head thoughtfully for a brief moment before he answers,     already knowing what he can say.Â
âNot very strong-- certainly nowhere near your level, Oikawa-senpai...  I know that what skill I have comes from out-thinking the other teams,â  his voice is honest as he answers, rolling a ball between his hands. âI wonât win in a head to head battle, but I can to try to get around them as best I can to score a point.â
penguiniisms:
 |âŒ| â As they started off towards the restaurant, Nagisa    began playing with Reiâs fingers subconsciously in order    to keep himself awake, but still smiling to himself as he    wouldnât want to spend any other day without his boyfriend.
Walking up to the door then being motioned to go first, the    penguin kept his fingers intertwined with his and pulled him    along after taking a step through.
Rei let Nagisa pull him through the door with a small smile, quickly getting them a table and sitting down across from him. Â âMaybe you should get some tea? It might help you wake up,â Rei suggested with a slight smile. It was always clear when Nagisa was tired, and the goal of their venture out was to wake him up, after all.
