Batman: The Long Halloween May be Getting the Animated Treatment

According to a new report, Warner Bros. is moving ahead with an animated adaptation of Batman: The Long Halloween.

Revenge of the Fans is reporting exclusively that Warner Bros. is working on a two-part animated project to adapt the 12-part Batman: The Long Halloween comic. From what the site has been able to dig up, this would be a stand alone film in the same way as The Killing Joke and The Dark Knight Returns adaptations were.

Additionally, the report goes on to name some of the voice talent said to be attached to the project, but it is unknown which parts they will be playing.

Troy Baker is on the list, but seeing as he has played both Batman and the Joker in the past, you can take your guess here.

Jensen Ackles (Supernatural) has played Jason Todd in the past, so this would be a new part for him this time around.

Naya Rivera (Glee) is another one that she could be just about any female part.

Titus Welliver (Sons of Anarchy) could be up for several older roles.

David Dastmalchian previously played a henchman in The Dark Knight,

Katee Sackhoff (The Flash) might be a good fit for Poison Ivy.

There’s no indication when this project will be officially announced or when it might hit our screens, but considering the popularity of this storyline it would definitely be high on a lot of people’s ‘must see’ lists.(x)

Hi! I have a John Doe related question. :D You mentioned in an ask that he has a slight preference for Bruce over Harley so I was wondering when John himself realised that? Since he answers the "are you in love with me?" question that Bruce asks him with a no. I'm really fascinated to know what goes inside John's head/what you guys imagined goes on, when you were writing the very batjokes subtext-heavy scenes. Was the no a lie? (And if this is something you legally can't answer, I understand.)

Nah the subtext was all intentional. In that alley in 202, John may not actually be “in love” with Bruce just yet. Or he can’t quite bring himself to acknowledge it at that point. 

It actually makes sense that until John becomes Joker (his “true” self) he cannot verbalize how he really feels about Bruce. John is repressed, Joker is free.

Around what point when creating John Doe, did the creative team come up with the concept of making him bisexual / falling in love with Bruce? Had it been planned from the start? Were you all worried about any negative feedback? Thank you so much for putting in as much of it as you could! It's great to finally know definitively that John was bisexual and had feelings for Bruce!

It happened very naturally. The basic idea from the start was that John was obsessed/idolized Bruce and Batman, and it sort of just shifted into something more flavored romantic as the season went on. All the episodes had an obvious homoerotic subtext for humor’s sake (I even wrote those 202 lines where he says Bruce is handsome, like so handsome) but then credit to writer Meghan Thornton for actually having the guts to put those “loved” lines into 205 and sealing the deal. Once those were in, I remember having a frank conversation with the lead designer that we should commit internally to having John be bi, and I agreed. It weirdly kind of came together from multiple writers all adding to it each episode, without us actually coordinating on his bisexuality until the writing of episode 5.
