1. Your current favorite song: I am in love with Steven Battelle’s solo album. He made amazing music with his band, LostAlone, but his solo work is simply brilliant. I can’t stop listening to “Last Night On Earth”.
29. A song that cheers you up when you’re sad: When I’m sad I immediately turn to my 90′s music, specially BSB and Spice Girls. Choosing just one song is pretty much impossible, but I’ll go with “Who Do You Think You Are”. Brings me back to when I used to dance their routines with my sis.
33. A song whose message you don’t like: Blurred Lines. I’m not even gonna link that shit.

The Venue
I’d never been to this venue before and I honestly loved it. It was small in an intimate way rather than a squashed way, and absolutely beautiful to boot! Plus the acoustics were fantastic and it all just seemed to work.
The Support
I had mixed feelings about Jamie Skinner. On the one hand, you could tell he was passionate and by no mean was he a bad singer or performer. On the other hand, I definitely got the “grew up with the pop-punk bands of the early 2000s and never grew out of it” vibe which is definitely a vibe I used to dig but isn’t really my thing anymore.
The Band
Wowie wow wow. I don’t have a word except “fantastic”. I can’t imagine how hard it must be to play your very first solo show over, having to win over a crowd that (I imagine!) pretty much all came from your previous band and convince them that your new music is just as good. Well, colour me convinced - from the very first song. I honestly enjoyed every second of this - not only is Steven a fantastic performer with brilliant songs, but he has such strong stage presence and showmanship that everyone enjoys every minute of his show. I just had such a good time.
Overall
9/10 - Brilliant music performed by a brilliant musician in a brilliant venue, an incredible debut show which made me super super excited for the debut album (which, for the record, I love! Review coming soon)

The Good
Steven Battelle is a fantastic musician, this is known. I don’t know much about music from a technical perspective but from purely a fan perspective, this is great album. The lyrics are clever and lovely, there’s a huge variety in the styles of music and in terms of musicianship even I can tell that the songs are great. Songs like The Jump and Police and Thank You are somewhat reminiscent of the kind of music we’re used to hearing from him, while Nine Miles of Light and The Ocean Chorus are new and interesting kinds, and all are fantastic.
The Bad
Purely from a personal perspective, I wish there were more songs like The Jump - in my opinion, this is where Steven excels and I love this kind of music. While I do love the other songs, I’ve seen a lot of love for the more “relaxed” music and I’m definitely here for the rock.
Overall
9/10 - A fantastic debut album with great songs, a lovely variety and a little bit of something for everyone.
