The power goes out almost every day now, and in my Western dependence on electricity, I feel like life stops when the lights are out. All the things that seem real in the daytime or the glare of bulbs are nothing more than shadows, artifacts from a former, brighter life. I can only lay in bed, breathing, hoping with each breath the lights will pop me back into existence.
