Hey! How are you gonna plan your wedding?

“I ‘unno. I think Dice and I are gonna have very different tastes in how we want our wedding planned. He’s more of a fancy-shmansy kinda fella, I’m more of a down-low fella. He’d want somethin’ more extravagant, I’d want somethin’ more laid-down. We’ll see, when it comes to it. I figure we’ll be able to reach a reasonable compromise.”

 “Don’t I know it, sugar! You wear your trampiness like a crown, y’know. An’ nothin’ is more mutt than a wolfdog. But I got good enough genes, so it ain’t all bad. I mean, look at this handsome face.”

You check up on your boys recently? Kettle's boys, I mean.

 “Uuuh, naw. I’m sure Kettle’s got ‘em under control… as much as you can, with those two, anyhow.” Batty starts fiddling with his nails, as if he could see them. “He’d ask me to babysit ‘em if it was too rough on the old crook. They’re gettin’ older now. Less time to spend with Uncle Batty, y’know?”

“Yuh, it’s fun sometimes, gettin’ hounded by nonnies’. Feel like I matter. Like a celebrity or somethin’ fancy like that. But sometimes, I just wanna pluck the pretty petals from yer faces and stuff ‘em down holes you ain’t got.”

A few chuckles slipped- While he didn’t like the fact that Batty was, well, blind, it helped in this situation. Carefully opening his hands, Dice took hold of one of Batty’s wrists, in order to hold his hand palm-up-

He put a frog in his hand.

A fat, green and brown frog with a permanent frown on it’s little face. The amphibian sat there, as though it now owned the blind man’s hand, with sereneness. It even croaked a little. “I remember ya tellin’ me about the frogs,” he explained, with such an expectant grin. “Found that fella outside my door, if ya can believe that.”

 “What--”

Ugh, it was slimy! 

 And squishy! And...

 “Oh my gosh!” Batty yipped, pulling his flat-open hand closer to his person, tail wagging faster than the little frog’s gullet could throb.

 “Oooh, what kind is this? River?” His nose twitched, and he opened his mouth again, eyes squinting impossibly harder. “Naw... this little fella’s a type of treefrog.” 

 The wolf-dog’s finger ran over the surface of the frog’s slimy snout, to which the little thing gave him a hearty croak. Though he was a little startled, he began to laugh. “This ‘un is a barker. I wish I could see the little fella... aw, but you an’ I both know I ain’t needa’ see things to know they’re cute.” He ran a finger over the frog’s back. “Like you.”

Now, Dice wasn’t one to hop on a bandwagon so quickly. But, the rumors of a “dog walking into poles” and a real “upbeat fella” walking around Inkwell was enough to spur him on. There was only one well-known mutt on the isles, anyway. It’d been some time since they bumped into eachother.

A passing conversation in the past convinced him to snatch up something en route to where he’d heard him last. Asking around the busy city had him strolling from A to B, and the instant he caught sight of goofy green trousers and those endearing, squinty eyes, it was like striking a jackpot.

“Batsy!” he called, hands cupped tightly over something wriggling about between his palms. The man was trying not to laugh. “Batsy, you’re not gonna believe what I found!”

 In all honesty, it’d been a wonder he’d ended up nearly downtown. He could faintly recall being asked to do something, but with all the smells around the city, and bumping into more poles than need be, he’d ended up on his own way. 

 He’d been able to strike up conversation with a few pedestrians before he’d gone sidetracked again, near wandering aimlessly. It’d been quite some time since he’d visited the city, with so much to run into -- but today seemed like an alright day. 

 Well, he supposed, ears pricking up at the sound of his name, it was about to get even better. There was no mistaking that voice, and he’d hardly have give a sniff to find out, though if he had he’d most likely find the lulling scent of lavender cologne and perhaps just a hint of some fancy-schmansy chardonnay. 

 “Ashy!” Batty was most certainly pleased run into him, but couldn’t quite put his finger on why he would immediately have something to show him. He’d figured a hug would be the first order of business, though, curiously he could hear the hint of laughter in the other man’s voice.

 “Watcha got, diceman?”

   “If we were made of cellophane we’d all get stinking                                          drunk but FASTER!!”
