for the THK Soulmate AU a few questions(as someone that doesn't like the traditional aus and would love to see more of this platonic soulmates storys)
1. who is Bison and Fadels soulmate
2. what is the mark is it words, is it a date, a code, birthmark that they share
3. how does Kant fake it? does he draw or tattoo a fake mark on himself?
4. Bison realises it amongst the way and doesn't say anything? cuz i feel like at some point he would figure it out
5. is the dead bf Fadels soulmate?(this tie in with question one)
6. could Fadel and Bison be also platonic soulmates and Bison just acts with Kant to see to what point he lies?
7. is the platonicness a choice or is there some soulmates that are destined to be platonic? cuz i think the first option is better gives the characters more agency
8. is their 3rd brother(i don't remember the name but Peppers character) is the one that has a classic soulmate bond with JJs character?(also don't remember the name)
sorry for the many questions😂 but the AUs i am not that into i get a lot more nitpicky but i would genuinly like to know if you have answers for any of this points to broaden the world building and depth of the story
first of all, i love this level of investment into an au i thought up in the five seconds before i walked into work shdjdjd but!! i do have thoughts i’ve been ruminating on for these!! caveat that i do think there are all sorts of avenues to go down in terms of an au like this that would make it interesting, and if it’s written well enough, i can find most things compelling! but i will give answers to what my ideal version of this au would look like.
in terms of the world-building aspects, ie marks and how soulmates work in general, i think this type of au best fits in a world where soulmarks are one half of some kind of shape. and what i like about that sort of mark in particular is that while these shapes can take all sorts of abstract forms, there also IS a finite amount of shapes, right? like it’s definitely an insane AMOUNT of possible shapes, they’re all incredibly unique (especially when you get into color and size variety), but eventually you do run out of options, right? and this leaves a LOT of things up in the air, creates ambiguity if a shape is CLOSE but not exact, and allows for the possibility of someone having MULTIPLE soulmates as well!
which does lead me to one of your other questions, in that there isn’t really a definitive answer as to whether or not someone is your platonic/romantic/familial soulmate. the universe gives you the marks and that’s it, it’s up to you to determine if your mark matches with someone else and what kind of soulmate they are to you. and with that, there are of course people that believe it’s all bullshit, there are people that believe you have more of an active choice in what kind of soulmate that person is to you (or even if you want to believe they are meant for you at all!), and there are of course people that believe it’s all predetermined and that if you end up fitting more as friends with someone, that’s all you were ever meant to be.
now, into your actual story-based questions - i, personally, really love the idea of fadel and bison being soulmates as well! for me, i’d say it’s of the familial variety ultimately, but there is that option for anyone more into fadelbison romantically than me to explore the idea of them having tried a different route at some point? but, i do think it’s important for this au regardless that it didn’t work out and they landed on brothers. because bison being the little romantic he is always hoped there was someone else out there. he’s heard of people having multiple soulmates, and he wants a real, true, ROMANTIC soulmate.
of course, with that in mind, and with the fact that i did always love the idea of bison figuring it out in canon (and even do maintain that to a certain extent, bison absolutely knew something was up and chose to ignore it) that, yes, at some point, he does figure it out that kant is faking it. however, because bison so badly wants it to be real by that point, because he’s already fallen for kant, he convinces himself that it IS real, or that kant’s doing it because it’s what he wants, too (which he does) (of course that’s what kant wants) (but it’s not why…).
and given the way the marks are, i do think kant would have drawn on a second half to bison’s. the way i picture it, they have their normal one-night stand and because kant is covered in tattoos as is, bison doesn’t take particular notice or even ask about which one might be kant’s soulmark. but bison, being tattooless, kant notices! and maybe it’s a pretty distinct shape, so kant latches onto it by accident, which comes in handy when he does ultimately learn he has to seduce bison. and i imagine he would cover his soulmark with style and draw the one with bison’s over it. and maybe the mark he draws on isn’t actually an EXACT match to bison’s and that’s what makes bison take notice. ofc, once all is said and done, kant gets that mark tattooed as exact as he can make it to bison’s in a different spot because bison is his soulmate too, universe be damned <3
and i do like the idea of keen and his boyfriend having a normal soulmate relationship! bonus points, though, if keen’s soulmark is very, very similar to fadel and bison’s but just… not a perfect match. because i do love me some keen, the forgotten brother, angst <3 and i also like the idea of fadel’s dead ex having been his soulmate, too! makes it hurt all the worse <3
