*°࿐ HEART OUT!
“it’s just you and i, tonight, why don’t you figure my heart out?” — [yoichi isagi x fem!reader]
0.04; such a perv.
you tug on your uniform blazer as you make your way to your math class, the seasons were changing and with that came new responsibilities, new pressure— new feelings. although it was nothing you couldn’t handle, right? you had barely gotten any sleep last night, your brief facetime call with isagi replaying in your mind all night, you just couldn’t fathom how he was so nice to someone like you.
nonetheless, you hand in your work sheet and ignore it as you walk past him without sparing a glance. rude, he thinks to himself, but doesn’t bother to do anything about it. the class passes by excruciatingly slow, and everything your teacher says appears to go in one ear and out the other— you were hopeless. you were going to continue flunking, then you’d stop being coach, then you’d get your football privileges revoked as a whole, then your parents would— “l/n,” you hear a voice call, snapping you out of your train of thoughts, you look around, the classroom was practically empty besides you, your teacher, and yoichi isagi.
you nervously walk towards your teachers desk, nerves settling in, this is it, i’m never touching a football again. “you did really well on last nights homework.” your teacher smiles at you. oh. “well… i got some help.” you admit sheepishly.
“oh? from who?” your teacher inquires.
“isagi.”
“hm. i see.” your teacher pauses for a moment, “isagi, will you come here?”
isagi’s head whips up at the sound of his name, his big blue eyes widening— somehow making them look even bigger, if that was even possible. he slowly zips up his backpack and makes his way towards you, “is something wrong?” he asks nervously.
of course the only thing he’s worried about is getting in trouble. you think, holding back an eye roll.
“no, not at all.” your teacher states calmly, “in fact, i wanted to thank you. l/n’s been struggling a bit with this class recently, nothing too bad, but definitely not as good as she used to be.” your jaw tightens as you feel isagi’s eyes glance at you briefly, great, he just had to expose you like that. “she did really well on yesterday’s homework assignment, apparently you helped her?”
“yes,” isagi nods, “i did— is that against the rules? sorry. i just wanted to be helpful.” he attempts to defend.
“no, i wanted to thank you, isagi.” your teacher said, laughing lightly at isagi’s frantic demeanor, “and since you were able to help her tremendously, maybe you could perhaps tutor her? nothing too extreme, just twice a week, i think it would be really beneficial.”
cursed. that was the only logical explanation for what was happening to you. you were being cursed.
“oh! of course, i don’t mind at all.” isagi smiles softly, looking towards you.
your teacher raises an eyebrow at your silence, “l/n?”
“that’s fine.” you manage to grit out.
“it’s settled then. thank you, isagi.” your teacher smiles before dismissing the both of you. you quickly begin to bolt your way through the halls, anger slowly pumping through your veins— this whole situation was utterly embarrassing, and you knew isagi was nice enough to act like it wasn’t, which just pissed you off even further.
you could feel isagi’s presence as he shuffled after you, “hey, wait up!” he called out before finally catching up to you. “hey, that was good, right? you're doing better, and i'm sure tutoring will help you even more!" he beamed.
curse him and his annoying optimism. "what do you want, isagi?" you sigh.
his face drops ever so slightly, "uh, i was just gonna say that we should probably schedule tutoring after our conjoined practice's... 'cause it'd be easier since we get done with practice at around 6, and we'd already be at the same place..."
"whatever," you roll your eyes, "i'm gonna be late for english."
"oh! i also have english next, i'll walk with you!" he offers.
why. was. he. so. nice. you clench your jaw, "keep a distance, don't want people thinking we're friends."
“right.” isagi mutters under his breath, slowly trailing behind you. "so, you excited for practice tomorrow?" he attempts to start up a conversation.
"whatever. you and your team better not drag us down." you mutter.
you feel him visibly deflate behind you, "hey, you said it yourself, we're good." he attempts to defend.
"you're good enough." you shoot back.
a slight pout appears on isagi's lips, "well, for the record, i think you guys are really good."
"of course we are."
isagi sighs, "you're really hard to have conversations with, you know that? it's like i'm talking to a brick wall. an angry, mean, non-chalant, arrogant, cocky brick wall. you know who else makes you feel like you're talking to a brick wall? rin itoshi! i told you, you guy's are exactly alike. well, honestly, you're probably friendlier than him... and that say's a lot about him. but, at least you reply in sentences, you're lucky if you even get a word out of rin. i'm kinda worried for the both of you, that cant be good, being this anti-social--"
"oh my god!" you snap, "do you ever shut up? talking to you is like turning on the TV and then fucking glee comes on and they just wont stop singing, and then the remote stops working so you're just forced to listen to singing and screaming. its annoying. you're annoying!"
isagi's eyes widen, "okay... i know you just yelled at me, but that's the most i've ever heard you speak to me... i'm kinda excited. i feel like we're making progress here. we're making progress, right? yeah, we are." he slightly smiles.
your face twists in disgust, "excited? you're such a perv, i knew you had a kink."
"oh my god, no! no, no, no! that's not what i meant... not excited like... that," he purses his lips, "i'm not a perv, i swear! i'm not."
you roll your eyes, ignoring him as you walk into the classroom without sparing him a glance.
WEDNESDAY, 4PM;
you huff as you tie your shoe lace, muttering angrily to yourself as you, along with the rest of your team, get ready for conjoined practice. "i swear, we've all began to think you're schizo. are you talking to yourself again?" kimiyo lets out an airy laugh as she sits down beside you.
"i just can't believe we have to do this. it's so stupid!" you say frustratedly.
"hey, i'm sure it'll be fine... maybe even fun! who knows? lets just give it a shot."
"whatever." you mutter before standing up, you clap your hands together, "alright girl's, you all ready? you guy's better give your best performances today." you say to the group of girl's standing amongst you in the locker room, your eyes quickly scan the room before sighing, "has anyone seen shiori? i swear to god if she's late again... i literally warned her about this yesterday." you ask as you receive many 'no's', you shake your head slightly, "let's just get out there, i'll deal with her later." you conclude before walking out of the locker room, making your way onto the field as the rest of the team follows behind you.
your met with the sight of a very confused boys team, standing there looking like they're five year old children who've strayed away from their mom's in a grocery store. you walk up to isagi, not bothering to greet him or the rest of the team as your girls line up in front of you. "alright guys, warm ups first. aiko, is your leg feeling better, no? 'kay, just sit out the last exercise... better safe than sorry." you mutter the last part to yourself as you begin warming up.
a few minutes pass, and you notice that isagi's team is very much still standing there doing nothing. you roll your eyes, "are your little perv's gonna stand there watching us warm up or are you gonna warm up too?"
isagi snaps out of it, "oh! right... warm ups, heh, yeah... definitely doing that now." he says before facing his team, who are all just standing there, basically loitering.
"we don't have a warm up routine." a red head mutters. he has nice hair, you think to yourself before sighing out.
"let me get this straight... you, yoichi isagi, have somehow become team captain. really, how you got this far is beyond me. and you're saying you don't even have a warm up routine for your team? what? do you guys just jump straight into playing? do you know how unsafe that is?"
"hey, hot stuff. don't go all prissy princess on us, 'kay? jumping straight into playing has never failed us. warming up is just extra steps... like foreplay. it's useful, not necessary." a guy with pink frosted tips speaks out.
your face grimaces as your eyes widen, "did you just compare warming up to foreplay?!" you exclaim, "oh my god, i was right. your team is full of pervs just like you!" you yell at isagi before turning back to the peculiar guy, "and who the hell do you think you're calling hot stuff?"
"you heard me," he smirks.
"cut it out, shidou." rin's voice cuts him off, "she's right. we should be warming up, it'll give us a major advantage."
"at least you have one sensible guy on your team," you roll your eyes, "get to warming up, pervs."
"hey, i'm sensible..." isagi mutters to himself as a pout forms on his lips.
you turn your back to him as you see shiori running towards you, "i am so sorry!" she exclaims, out of breath.
you turn to face her, "what'd i tell you last time, shiori?"
"that if i was late one more time i was off the team... but listen, i couldn't help it--"
"save your half baked excuses for someone else. i swear, this is your last chance. five laps." you say sternly.
"five?" she pouts?
"you were five minutes late, weren't you? unless you wanna make them six."
"no! no, five is great." she says before running off.
"geez, this girl's a hassle..." you hear one of the guys mutter from behind you, you turn around, and just as you expected, it was non other than seishiro nagi. you had a couple of classes with him, you didn't know all that much about him, except for the fact that he was extremely lazy and reo mikage would practically do anything for him. it was a weird relationship, but hey, who were you to judge?
"i don't know, my monster's telling me this is gonna be fun." a yellow, bobbed cut boy with an alarming grin said from beside him.
"monster?" you question.
"he's my friend... he likes you." bachira continues.
"your friend?..." you shake your head, "great, a team full of schizo's and perv's. exactly what i needed."
"don't mind bachira, and don't take anything he says literally, either." reo lets out an airy laugh.
finally. someone on this team you actually liked. your parent's worked alongside reo's, which resulted in you forcefully hanging out multiple times as kids. he was actually pretty fun, but as you got older, you naturally drifted apart.
"reo, good to see you." you smile lightly.
"likewise." he nods, "quite the team you've got here, very organized."
"you know me." you shrug.
"i do, you're nothing if not bossy, golden girl." he smiles at the faint memory of you bossing him around multiple years ago.
"you two know each other?" isagi questions.
"our parents used to work together, naturally, we were forced to hangout many many times." reo shrugs mindlessly.
"hey, don't tell me you didn't enjoy my company." you put a hand to your heart, pretending to be hurt.
reo rolls his eyes as he laughs, "you know i did."
you smile softly at him before turning back to your teammates, "are you guy's all warmed up? we should probably get started." you say as they nod at you.
you turn to isagi, "we'll start with passes, 'kay? we'll group them into three's, we should have seven groups."
isagi nods at you before the both of you begin creating mixed groups of three's, you end up with isagi and rin.
"okay guys listen up, this should be pretty easy, we'll just do regular passes in formations of three's." you say before turning back to your group.
the three of you begin running, keeping a steady pace as you pass to each other. you had a patter, rin starts with the ball, he passes to isagi, and isagi passes to you. you've been doing this for around seven minutes before rin decides to pass to you instead, your eyebrows furrow, but you accept the pass nonetheless. you pass to isagi, expecting him to pass back to rin, but instead he stops the ball between his feet.
you look up at him, confusion plastered on your face but all his attention is on rin. "you're supposed to pass to me, not her."
your confusion only arises, was he really pissed because of this? "it doesn't matter." rin mutters.
"it does, our formation was you, me then her. you just messed it up." isagi continues.
"does it really matter, isagi? i'm sure he didn't even mean to do it." you sigh, not wanting to waste anymore time.
"i did." rin mutters, but his eyes never leave isagi's, that's when you realized, this didn't have anything to do with you— you could tell, rin was just trying to rile isagi up, and it was working.
you roll your eyes, "really, rin? grow up. i'm not gonna be in between your little middle school rivalry, i don't care about whatever issues you have with each other, leave me out of it." you watch isagi and rin stare each other down for another second before rolling your eyes once more, "you guy's looking like you're about to hate fuck each other, seriously, you're both pathetic. grow up." you say before walking away.
"next exercise," you yell out, "groups of two. pick your groups, i don't care. we're gonna focus on dribbling this time. one of you will start with the ball, and you're meant to get to the end of the field without losing it. every time your opponent steals the ball is five push ups for you."
an hour later, and multiple more exercise's, you've decided to call it a day. you sigh in relief as you walk towards kimiyo, sipping on water as you begin to make your way to the locker room.
"hey, it wasn't that bad, right?" kimiyo asks.
"you're just saying that 'cause you got to flirt with yukimiya the entire time." you roll your eyes.
"fine, you caught me there... but seriously, it went pretty well."
"i guess." you shrug.
"speaking about yukimiya... i actually can't give you a ride back tonight, he offered to drive me home— only if that's okay with you!"
"yeah, that's fine, i'll just walk home."
"are you sure? i can ask him if we can drop you off too, it's pretty late." she says, her tone laced with concern.
you smile softly at her, "i'm sure, kimi. have fun with him."
"you're the best," she smiles at you, giving you a slight hug before running off, "text me when you get home!" she exclaims as you nod.
"not that i was totally eavesdropping... but are you sure you can walk home alone right now? it's dark out, my monster say's it isn't safe."
you roll your eyes, what the hell was up with this guy? "oh, thank god for your monster. what would i ever have done without him? must be unsafe if he say's it is." you say condescendingly, your tone laced with sarcasm.
"mhm!" bachira nods frantically, "luckily, isagi's right here! he can drop you off, can't you, isagi?" you both turn to look at him, his eyes widen.
"huh? what— bachira." he says through gritted teeth before turning back to you, "uh, yeah. i can. i mean, only if you want to… we have tutoring anyways, so..”
"whatever. beats walking home. i’ll meet you out here in 15." you mumble, walking into the locker room for a quick shower.

an hour later, and multiple more exercise's, you've decided to call it a day. you sigh in relief as you walk towards kimiyo, sipping on water as you begin to make your way to the locker room.

0.03; indifference?
you flop onto your bed with a thud, you had come home to an empty house once more, but you were used to it at this point, it was nothing new. you had showered, watched three episodes of the o.c, ate 2 bowls of cinnamon toast crunch for dinner, and attempted to start on your math homework before you ultimately gave up, opting to scrolling through tiktok on your phone to hopefully pass time. you were bored out of your mind, kimiyo was busy with yukimiya, and, well... you didn't really have any other friends to hangout with, so tiktok would have to suffice.
you scrolled past the 15 second videos mindlessly, none of them were entertaining nor interesting enough— that's when the thought popped into your head; yoichi isagi. you were yet to text him, and in all honesty, you didn't even know if you could after what happened on the pitch earlier that day. but you had to agree on a time and day for your conjoined training... ugh. you decided to suck it up, exposure therapy, or whatever.

the phone rings twice before isagi finally picks up, the faint sound of rustling flowing through your ears before you speak up, "hey."
"hey, so, uh, where'd you stop?" isagi questioned, and your lips tightened into the faintest smile at how awkward he sounded. he really was a loser.
"question 2." you deadpanned.
"right," isagi sighed, "what exactly don't you get?"
"most of it," a brief moment of silence passed, "...all of it."
isagi let out an airy laugh, so quiet you almost missed it. "are you laughing at me, isagi?"
"no! no... i'm not." he quickly defends, "don't worry, i'm here to help you! we'll be done with it in no time."
you smile slightly at not only how optimistic he is, but also how incredibly nice he is. "if you say so... hey, d'you think we could face time? it'd probably be easier." you suggest.
"yeah!" he exclaims way too fast, "i mean, uh, yeah. that's cool. just gimmie a sec." he says, and you hear rustling in the background once more before an *incoming facetime from yoichi isagi* message pops up on your screen, you press accept.
you prop your phone up against a pen holder on your desk, and isagi seems to be laying back on his couch. "nice couch." you say, attempting to start up a conversation.
isagi has multiple things he could say to you right now... nice hair, nice face, nice legs— it was killing him how one of your legs was propped up on your chair, your chin resting on your knee as you bare legs and thighs were in frame— god, your thighs. isagi couldn't help but stare, not earlier when he saw you in your short football shorts, and not now when you were in your pyjama shorts. he felt like a perv, but they were just so perfect and they looked so soft and... "um, are you okay?" your voice suddenly snapped him out of his thoughts.
his cheeks turned red as his shame only grew, you definitely caught him. and if you didn't think he was a creep before, you definitely did now. "yeah... sorry. just got distracted." he tried to play it off.
you weren't stupid, you had caught him looking at your thighs earlier that day, and you had caught him once more just now. you almost wanted to laugh at how pathetic he was— at how flustered he was, trying to hide the blush that slowly grew on his cheeks.
"sure..." you trail off, "whatever, can we start now?"
"yeah, sorry about that. so, for this problem all you really have to do is..." he began explaining the equation to you. all of a sudden, an hour had gone by and your worksheet was complete. you would never admit it out loud, but yoichi isagi was kind of a saint— maybe that was an exaggeration, but he'd offered to help you with your math homework, sat through an hour long facetime call, he'd been incredibly patient with you when you didn't understand something, explaining it over and over till you could do it on your own— he'd been so nice to you when all you've been was a bitch.
to sum it up, yoichi isagi was a nice person, you weren't. and it was really starting to piss you off— because people like him always helped, even when they didn't need to, even when they shouldn't.
what was this feeling... indifference? it had to be.
that was the only logical explanation. you would never be friends with yoichi isagi. never. the hatred you had towards him had only shifted into indifference. that's all it was.

“it’s just you and i, tonight. why don’t you figure my heart out?” — [ yoichi isagi x fem!reader ]
0.02; stay out of my way.
you walked aimlessly through the empty school hallway alongside your best friend, and current teammate, kimiyo namako. she’d been listening to you blabber and complain for the past half hour, in other words, she was a saint. “kimi, he’s just so annoying.” you repeat for the 5th time.
kimiyo sighs as she looks at you, “c’mon, y/n. it wont be that bad, you’re overreacting.” she rolls her eyes, “i’m actually kinda looking forward to it, they’ve got some pretty good members… and you remember that guy i was telling you about? he’s on their team…” she trails off, a faint blush dusting her cheeks.
it takes you a second to register who she was talking about— then it clicks. oh god. how hadn’t you noticed yesterday? he was like, the only guy on the team who had glasses, kenyu yukimiya. not to mention, he was suspiciously model like. “so that’s why you’re excited? ‘cause you’ll get to train with him? don’t tell me i’m not enough for you, kimi.” you pout jokingly.
she jokingly rolls her eyes at you once more, “i mean, it’s part of the reason.” she shrugs, “plus, it’ll be fun— and hey, maybe you’ll even make some new friends— ooh! maybe you’ll find a boyfriend!” she beams, and you grimace at the mere thought.
“first of all, i don’t need more friends. second of all, ew.” you say as the twinkle in her eye slowly dies down.
“y/n, you have like two friends. you’re the most anti social person i know, trust me, you need social interaction.” she insists.
“i don’t need anything.” you huff, “and i don’t just have two friends… i have the team, too.”
“they’re all scared of you.” kimiyo deadpans.
“two thinks can exist at once.” you shrug, “i don’t have time for friends, or boys, ‘kay? i’m only doing this because as much as i hate to admit it, they’re pretty good, and it might be beneficial for us.”
“whatever,” she sighs in defeat, “i gotta get to chemistry, anyways. what class do you have?”
“free period.” you mumble, “i’ll probably fuck around on the pitch for a bit.”
kimiyo nods as she begins to walk away, “don’t wear yourself out before practice, golden girl.” she says and you smile at the nickname, she’d given it to you years ago, when you were only 11 and you seemed to excel at everything you did— she claimed you were some kind of child prodigy, and the nickname seemed to stick.
you quickly changed into your uniform and walked out to the pitch, a faint smile on your face. this is where you felt the happiest, where you felt the lightest— your responsibilities could fade away for a moment, and you could become one with the ball, getting lost in the game. you had been so caught up in your dribbling techniques that you hadn’t even noticed when someone else had made their way onto the pitch, not until an unfamiliar voice spoke up. “free period?” he asked, his voice was monotone and quiet— it didn’t belong to anyone you knew.
your eyebrows ruffled as you turned around, met with a beyond bored face that belonged to rin itoshi. what the hell was he doing here? “uh, yeah. you?” you questioned, your voice unusually quiet.
he nodded in response, cutting the conversation short, leaving you both awkwardly standing there. “not a man of many words, i see.” you mumble, attempting to rid the tension.
“tch.” he scoffs. god, this guy really wasn’t giving you anything to work with. you sigh out of frustration, “you wanna practice together? or are we just gonna split the field in half?” you ask, your patience running out.
“practice together? you’re lukewarm at best, you couldn’t keep up with me if you tried.” he responds, his voice still monotone as ever.
okay, he’s cocky, noted. “is that a challenge?” you tilt your head, “because i saw you play last night, and yeah, you’re good— but not good enough to spew that shit at me.”
“you’re implying that you could be better than me? ‘cause i highly doubt it.”
what the hell was this guys problem? “i’m not implying anything, rin. all i’m saying is that you’ve never even seen me play, so how would you know that i’m lukewarm?”
he scoffs once more at your response, “give it your best shot, but don’t run off crying when you can’t keep up.”
you roll your eyes at him, tying your hair back in a pony tail before positioning the ball between your legs, “fine, let’s do this, one on one.”
you knew rin was good— but you also had no doubts in your own abilities, you knew how to keep the ball, and you knew that your perfect scoring formula never failed you. you weren’t intimidated by him in the slightest, he was just another cocky egoist who thought he was above everyone because of his last name, and you weren’t going to put up with his bullshit.
you could feel his presence close behind you, he was using the oldest trick in the book, keeping himself in your blind spot as a weak attempt to steal the ball. you dribble the ball between your feet, turning around and getting behind him in almost an instant. you could feel his eyebrows furrowing in confusion as your smirk only grew, “what’s the matter, can’t keep up, rinnie boy?” you tease.
“don’t call me that.” he huffed as he trailed behind you once more, he stuck out his foot right as you kicked the ball with force, landing it into the goal. his eyes widened, he missed? no. that was impossible, rin itoshi never missed.
you turned around to face him, “still think i’m lukewarm?” you tilted your head, your eyebrows slightly raising, and he stayed silent in response. you shake your head slightly, “i know your kind, rin itoshi, you think you’re above everyone else because you share the same last name as sae. but tell me this, if you were actually better than us, then why are you still here, huh? why aren’t you pro. you’re playing amongst lukewarm npc’s because you’re one yourself. so you may wanna lose a bit of the ego, because it isn’t doing you any favors, especially if you can’t steal the ball from a girl.”
you can basically feel the anger radiating off of him, “you don’t know anything about my life, okay?” he starts harshly, “and i’d advise you to mind your own business, that was strictly luck, you’re half baked at best. don’t get cocky, now.”
ironic— was telling you not to be cocky. you rolled your eyes at him, suddenly feeling a set of eyes on you. you turn your head around, your eyes meeting yoichi isagi, great. because him being here too was exactly what you needed. you huff, “looks like your boyfriends here.” you tease lightly, remembering the rumors that had been floating around a couple months ago, when rin and isagi were claimed as “DL’s” who got down in the locker room after practice.
“shut up.” rin mumbles, “he’s just as half baked, if not more. i barely even tolerate him.” you watched as isagi walked towards the both of you. he had an almost… irritated? expression on his face, one that you’d never seen on him.
“what are you guys doing here? we haven’t even decided on a day for our conjoined practice…” he said, his voice laced with irritation.
“we both had a free period, so we had a little one on one.” you said in response.
“oh. just you guys? alone?” he inquired even further.
you furrowed your brows slightly, “you got a problem with that, isagi?”
“no!” he replied almost instantly, “no. no problem at all.” he said, his jaw slightly clenched, and a faint smirk began to make its way onto rin’s lips.
“whatever.” rin muttered, “she’s all yours.” he said, walking away from the both of you, leaving you confused and only pushing igasi’s frustration further.
“him? really?” isagi questioned, acting as if you practicing with rin was the worst thing that could ever happen.
“what’s your deal, isagi? am i not allowed to practice with him?” you say, almost too harshly.
“you’re allowed to do whatever you want, i don’t care.” he responds, even though, he clearly does care. “i just don’t get why you had to practice with him out of all people.”
“kinda seems like you care.” you mutter, “you afraid i’m gonna steal your boyfriend, or something?” you tease once more.
“he’s not my boyfriend.” isagi huffs, “he’s just rude, and cocky, and—”
“so i’m not allowed to practice with him because you don’t like him?” you cut him off in disbelief.
well, yeah. is what he wanted to say, you’re you and he’s him. but of course, he didn’t. he couldn’t. you were barley even acquaintances, let alone friends, let alone more. he wasn’t allowed to feel protective over you, but for some reason, he did. “that’s not what i said...” he trails off, the accusation daunting on him.
“it’s what you’re implying.”
“i— whatever.” he sighs, “you can do whatever you want, you guys are two sides of the same coin. arguing with you is pointless, you think you’re better than everyone— just like him.”
your face drops at his words, “you think me and that guy are alike? you can’t be serious.”
“yeah, i do. and i know a part of you knows i’m right, tell me, l/n, what makes you so different from rin, huh?” he continues on.
“maybe the fact that i’m not an utter asshole?” you say, your voice defensive, and it almost sounded like you were trying to convince yourself, not him.
“are you sure about that?” isagi scoffs.
“whatever. this little spew has nothing to do with me, anyways. you just can’t handle the fact that he’s better than you, that i’m better than you.” you say harshly.
“you sound exactly like him!” isagi yells out.
you let out a scoff as you shake your head, “who do you think you are? you don’t know me, okay? and you never will, so don’t go thinking that you and i’ll ever be friends because of this little thing. stay out of my way, isagi.” you say before walking off, your shoulder colliding with his.
isagi huffed as he watched you walk away, here he was, thinking you guys could get along, that you'd maybe even become friends, but apparently not.
you weren't giving him much to work with, but if there was one thing about isagi, it was that he was not a quiter.

0.01 ; isagi-chan?
you let out an annoyed huff as you sat solemnly in your coach's office, you were beyond over this entire conversation— beyond over this entire day, in fact. you accidentally snoozed your alarm, resulting in you being late to your first period, where you were then greeted with a devastating 68% on your math quiz from yesterday. yikes, you thought before shoving the quiz deep into the depths of your backpack, hoping to forget about it and carry on with your day— which was basically just a series of unfortunate events. your stomach rumbled during chemistry, your mascara was clumpy, and your uniform was wrinkled. you truly just wanted to go home and binge some early 2000's sitcom, but no, you were stuck in your coach's office, being forced into something you really did not want to do.
"why do we have to do this again? my team is great. you know it, i know it. hell, even the entire boy's team knows it. they'd just drag us down." you huffed out.
"because, l/n. i'm not denying the fact that your team is great, but you could always be better. plus, it'll strengthen your team work skills, those boys are pretty good too— competitive, even. you'd all benefit each other immensely."
you groan out of frustration, "gosh, whatever. fine. who even is their captain?"
"yoichi isagi. you share a couple of classes with him, if i'm not mistaken?"
she was, in fact, unfortunately not mistaken. you grimace at the mere thought of the guy— he was way too optimistic, way too competitive, and not to mention, a total loser! how did someone as scrawny as him make the team, or let alone become captain?
"mhm." you hum out, "math and english."
"ah," your coach begins, "that reminds me, you're gonna have to get that math grade up, l/n."
great. because another lecture was exactly what you needed. "i'm working on it." you mumble. it wasn't exactly a lie, because you were working on it! well, sorta. you had attempted to study, but there were too many numbers, it just hurt your brain, which resulted in you giving up.
"you're excelling in every other one of your classes, this is really dragging you down." your coach started, "anyways, i'll let you and isagi pick out a day and time that suits the both of you."
you nodded in response, grabbing your backpack and slinging it over your shoulder as you began to see yourself, your hand had barely grasped the doorknob before your coach's voice sounded through your ears once more. "one more thing, l/n." she said as you turned around, "please, be nice to him." she said with a knowing look.
"no promises." you huffed before finally walking out of the room and making your way towards the locker room. you didn't even have practice on that particular day, the boys team did. but you thought, if your girls were going to be training alongside these boys, you might as well take a look at how good they were before. you mentally curse yourself as you make your way to the pitch, as expected, you were met with multiple stares of confusion by the boys on the pitch, but your eyes only roamed around in search of a certain someone— yoichi isagi.
your eyes met his, his face exhibiting utter confusion while yours displayed boredom. "uh...hi?" he started awkwardly, "its our day on the pitch...right? don't tell me i accidently got our practice days messed up! if i did— i’m so sorry, but we're already all warmed up and—”
"oh my god, stop." you cut him off sharply, "hasn't your coach talked to you?"
isagi's confusion only grew, "huh? talked to me about what?" he tilted his head, his eyes squinting slightly— he looked like a lost bunny. it was comical.
as if on cue, the boy's coach made his way towards the both of you. "ah, y/n l/n, i take it coach anri has already spoken to you?" he questioned.
you nodded in response— in all honesty, the guy creeped you out. his name was ego for gods sake, who the hell named this guy?
"what's going on?" isagi asked, and you zoned out as ego began describing the situation to isagi, as well as the rest of the team. a few groans were let out, but you couldn't really blame them, it wasn't like you wanted to do this either. "right." isagi nodded as ego walked off, "but, uh, why are you here right now?"
"i wanna watch you guys practice." you rolled your eyes, "y'know? take a look at your play styles... your strengths and weaknesses. in other words, if you guys are worth my time."
"wow, okay, harsh." isagi mumbled, "i guess that's fine, though."
you watched from a short distance, mentally taking note of each player and what they were good at. in all honesty, they weren't that bad. in fact, most of their team was quite good, you were almost taken aback by how good their chemical reactions were, and how well they meshed together. although there was one guy who stuck out like a sore thumb— rin itoshi. he was insanely good, but he refused to talk to anyone, keeping his words to a minimum, occasionally mumbling a quiet 'pass' every once in a while. but hey, who were you to judge? it clearly worked for him, and the rest of the team didn't seem to mind either.
"rin itoshi," a voice sounded out from beside you, causing you to turn your head, your eyes met with isagi's face, an almost disappointed expression washing over his eyes.
"yeah," you nod, "he's good."
"of course he is, he's rin itoshi." isagi says, as if it were obvious.
"is that supposed to mean something to me?" you deadpan.
"you really don't know who he is?" isagi questions, and you shake your head in response. "sae itoshi's younger brother— he's basically a prodigy."
"hm," you hum in response, that's why his last name sounded familiar. "whatever, what's that guy's deal?" you point towards a white haired guy, completely disregarding the previous topic, leaving isagi both confused and grateful at your lack of interest towards rin.
"seishiro nagi." isagi says, "he only started playing 'cause of reo." he points towards the purple haired guy who was basically attatched to nagi. "he's really good... but also, really lazy. he basically thinks everything's a hassle."
"yeah, what's up with them? they seem oddly close." you peer your eyes at them, "they infatuated with each other or something?"
isagi lets out an airy laugh at your words, "not quite..."
whatever that means.
"pretty solid team you've got here, isagi." you admit.
"what?— oh, thanks." he mumbles, turning his head away from your line of sight, praying you cant see the faint blush on his cheeks.
"right." you nod slowly, "i'm gonna get going now." you say before pushing your phone towards him, which he peered down at in confusion. you roll your eyes at him, slowly running out of patience. "put your number in, isagi." you say sharply, "or are you expecting us to telepathically communicate a time and day?"
"oh! yeah, of course, my number." he grabs the phone, "obviously we can't communicate telepathically... that would be crazy. so you need my number... so we can set up a time and day, obviously. um. yeah.'' he trails off awkwardly, refusing to make eye contact as you smiled in amusement.
"don't tell me i'm the first girl to ask for your number, isagi." you tease condescendingly, isagi's silence confirming your suspicions. you let out a slight laugh as you take the phone back, "i'm glad to be your first, isagi-chan." you tease once more.
isagi's eyes widen, "isagi-chan?" he repeats in shock.
"relax." you smirk slightly, "i was just teasing. i'll text you." you say before walking away, leaving him flustered and alone.

*°࿐ HEART OUT!
"its just you and i, tonight. why don't you figure my heart out?" — [ yoichi isagi x reader series ]
⋆˚࿔ — synopsis; blue lock academy was your average high school. advanced classes for the smart kids, regular ones for the less academically blessed, mediocre cafeteria food, and two different football teams. a girls football team, and a boys football team. both teams tended to stay out of each others way, it was just easier that way, up until the team captain's were told they had to conduct conjoined practices to 'evolve' as players! you, the captain of the girls football team, were not pleased to hear about this! i mean, what an utter waste of time and energy, right? meanwhile yoichi isagi, captain of the boys football team, seemed not to mind as much.
⋆˚࿔ — tags; fem!reader, non canon to the anime or manga (blue lock is a regular high school, not a training facility), high school au, angstangstangst, enemies (?) to lovers, reader is pretty bitchy, jealous isagi, use of y/n (i try my hardest to use it as little as possible cuz it lowk cringes me out but sometimes it must be done…) thats all i can think of for now ill add more as the story progresses!
