K so I'm not gonna deny Jayce violated Viktor's DNR, but also...did Jay know "you must destroy the HexCore" was a DNR? Or was Jayce just supposed to know that?

Because it's a recurring trait of Vik's to either not say something outright/directly, OR to not tell Jayce something and just trust/assume that he'll know what Vik means. Viktor has also been doing a LOT of stuff behind Jayce's back, that's lead to knowledge he most likely hasn't told his partner.

Vik clearly didn't tell Jayce he was experimenting with transmutation on himself using the HexCore, and we know from S2 he also didn't tell Jayce that the HC killed Sky. While Jayce's comment about finding another way to save Vik's life could be seen as denial of Vik's oncoming death wrapped in hope, it also doesn't mean he inherently understood what Vik was "really saying".

"You have to destroy the HexCore." could've meant many things. When Jayce stops Vik's impulsive suicide attempt, he just got back from an act of vigilantism that killed an UnderCity kid. Jayce could've very well thought that Viktor came to the same realization that he did, which is that HexTech was going to be weaponized. Their own beliefs be damned. Vik's "request" probably looked like a man willing to sacrifice his life to prevent the corruption of his work/dream, not one involving a sentient, experimental archanic device.

Also post explosion when Vik's body and transmutations are revealed, Jayce sees firsthand that Vik was doing things to himself without Jayce's knowledge. Add in that Vik's notes show the work of a dying man trying to figure out how to use magic to save his life, and the picture that Jayce gets is one of Viktor desperately wanting to live by any means necessary. NOT one where he's fed the HC blood and is now connected to and subsequently controlled by the it.

Do I think he was actively taking in all that evidence and using it to reason bringing Viktor back? No. Jayce says it himself that he was acting on impulse and not reason. But that doesn't change the fact that the evidence suddenly revealed to him without context tells a very different story than evidence with context.

IDK but it's never sat right with me that fandom accuses Jayce of violating Vik's dying wish, when it's not clear in canon whether that was something Jayce inherently understood. (Remember, we the audience know what Vik knows but JAYCE sure doesn't.) Would Viktor have told Jayce everything if the explosion didn't happen? Maybe. Or maybe Viktor would've taken all his secrets about the HexCore to his grave. All I can say for certain is that unless Vik said offscreen "I've accepted my impending death.", Jayce is interpreting words with the only information Vik has let him know. Which to Jayce looks less like a dying wish and more like words of hopeless resignation. And when has Jayce ever let a hopeless situation stop him?
