This may be a weird question but you seem like someone attached to a lot of classics. Do you ever find it hard to get into something after the hype and fandom has seemingly died down? I accidentally got hooked on Attack on Titan but it feels like I totally missed the bus LOL

I didn't watch 86 until this year and it came out in 2021. I didn't watch Princess Principal until like 2020 and it came out in 2017. I was late to Orb by a year at least.

But art doesn't have an expiration date, so if it speaks to you, let it speak to you! You don't have to always engage in a fandom while you do it. : ) I definitely understand wanting to follow along with others-- that sort of community-building is so energizing! But it's also impossible to follow everything all at once, so you WILL miss out on something. don't let that stop you!

I think you'll find passionate fans for every series no matter how much time has passed. + you get the privilege of looking at something holistically if you come in at the end, and you have an entire body of fan content to jump into that's already established!

I’ve been getting into 86 recently and came across your art. Would you know any other animanga with a protag like Lena?? I’m kind of obsessed with her 😳

What I think makes Lena a compelling protagonist is that she’s on the right side of history but she’s not doing it perfectly. Her allyship is flawed. Her approach only works because she’s protected by the system she’s trying to undermine. She is not capable of changing the regime, but she DOES outsurvive it. 

There’s a really good write up I think about a lot that I’ll link here– I just love it. 86 is a deeply political work and I think Lena is a really good tool in that work. In that way, I think she’s fairly unique!

hell yeah!!!! thanks so much for saying so : ) I'm so happy that my drawing Shoshimin led to you watching it, it's such a great show. impeccably directed, outlandishly arresting for a show about people talking at each other.

if you enjoyed Shoshimin, you're almost guaranteed to be a Hyouka enjoyer, too, so everyone should consume them TOGETHER!

I think In/Spectre has that "insane girl and boy solve mysteries by talking" sauce, just with a little more of a supernatural twist.

Gosick is also a visually interesting mystery light novel/manga with a Victorian flavor!

Hi!! i looooooved that one au you did with amesame with gura as a bodyguard butler and ame as the rich head of the house. I'm kind of obsessed. Do you know any (preferably yuri but I'll take anything) recommendations for other stories with a dynamic like that? putting my brain back to where I was when I made that...I think that once again came from the time I consumed Princess Principal, The Favorite, Portrait of a Lady on Fire, and The Handmaiden in succession and it accidentally rewired my entire self. so if you do that it's like snorting yuri cocaine

Her Shim-Cheong had this angle of "privileged woman uses marginalized woman as a tool to obtain her own freedom, with a side of mutual self-destruction" that tickled this idea somewhat.

Jormungand is about a weapons dealer and her squad of bodyguards and they're all crazy bonkers in that way I was channeling, I think...it's not a yuri but there's at least ONE lesbian!

possibly The Executioner and Her Way of Life? I remember this as a bait-and-switch isekai that turned into a GL, and the premise intrigued me. need to return to this one!

i know you're a big fan of yuri (big fan of yuri) but are there any yaoi you dabble in? (any yaoi you dabble in?)

i feel like i don't read any dedicated BL.................all the BL i have been into has been incidental or noncanon...........

i used to be THE BIGGEST shooter for kaneki/hide tokyo ghoul dude. i was on some illuminati stuff trying to connect the dots on that one. in my heart it's still real.

OH I KNOW I really like Kii Kanna's BL works (Qualia Under the Snow, Stranger by the Sea)! Their style is a HUGE inspiration to me, I even have their artbook. I originally found them through their Soul Eater doujin, lollll

I see that you read manga, but do you read books too? If so what kinds of books do you like?

yeah! i recently read I Who Have Never Known Men and it ruled. mid-90s French sci-fi novel with a central mystery it refuses to answer, deeply allusive, powerfully bleak and energizing in the same measure.

some time ago I also read Margaret Atwood's Alias Grace and I keep thinking about it. surely I am not the only person to do a queer reading of this book, but thinking about the doomed female friendship at the heart of it moves something in me
