Hellion Gallery Presents âEma Showâ in Paris.
Opening tonight - June 21st, 2016 - at Galerie Artisik Rezo in Paris, France is Portland, Oregon based Hellion Galleryâs popular group exhibition âEma Show.â
Ema are small wooden plaques on which Shinto worshipers write their prayers or wishes. The ema are then left hanging up at the shrine, where the kami (spirits or gods) receive them. They bear various pictures, often of animals or other Shinto imagery, and many have the word ganâi (éĄæ), meaning âwishâ, written along the side. In ancient times people would donate horses to the shrines for good favor; over time this was transferred to a wooden plaque with a picture of a horse, and later still to the various wooden plaques sold today for the same purpose.
For âEma Showâ artists such as (above) AJ Fosik, Josh Keyes, Haroshi, Souther Salazar and Yoskay Yamamoto plus many others have all created gorgeous Emas in their own manners and styles. Â
âEma Showâ is only on display until June 30th, 2016. Â Definitely check it out if youâre in Paris!

Joan CornellĂ at Spoke Art.
Opening Thursday, March 3rd, 2016 at Spoke Art Gallery in San Francisco, California is artist Joan CornellĂ âs first ever solo show in the United States.
Through simple, wordless imagery, CornellĂ is able to effectively convey all that he sees humorous with pieces often reaching on and beyond taboo subjects. Â The shocking results are often completely unexpected, adding to the alluring confusion of what exactly we are witnessing.
The show will be on display until March 26th, 2016.
