“Well that was a lucky break for you then wasn’t it?” She asked with a chuckle. It often surprised people because of her spotless reputation, that she could be quite adventurous at times. “That’s fair enough. People don’t need to know your business. Which I’m sure is a hell of a lot easier to keep to yourself in the city than in a town like this. Everyone here is bored out of their minds just looking for excitement any way possible.” That was her take on it at least, it was the only reason she could fathom people caring about what anyone else was up to.

beck chuckled and tilted his head to look up at the sky. one nice thing about being out of the city was just how many stars he could see. there weren’t many blinding lights drowning them out of the black velvet blanket of space. “yeah, you could say that,” he answered, still stargazing. “honestly, it’ll be nice to have a change of pace from the city chaos, gossip or not.” finally bringing his eyes away from the stars, beck raised a curious brow at savannah. “do you think there will be any gossip about you and me being behind this shack?” he asked, a hint of a smirk on his face.

“Gotcha. Do you like being back? I mean- Texas has to be better than fucking Philly…right?” the curly haired boy asked, having never really been out of the town let alone the state. “Honestly?” he began with a shrug, “It might be pretty bad. You should’ve tried out for football…we could always use someone with hops. Yeah, pretty much all summer. Mostly take girls out there. It’s a good place to hang out.” 

eyebrows raised, the grin slipped on beck’s face. he may have been born in dillon, but philly was his home. “woah, man. don’t go dissing philly, dude. that’s just not cool.” the two places were very different, so it was hard to truly compare them, but beck would probably still choose philly as the better place. even so, he did like texas and enjoyed being in a small town with family. “i s’pose i like being back, but i don’t know. it’ll take some getting used to, y’know?” laughing again, he let himself back into a carefree attitude. jet’s honesty was good to prepare him for what he’d find come basketball season, but it was pretty humorous. “yeah, i’m sure, but soccer season makes joining the football team a bit difficult. you play any other sports?” he wondered.

once people got to know her they would soon realize that a smirk or grin was almost always present in some way or another. most assumed that because she had good grades that she was serious but that couldn’t be further from the truth. “were his parents home?” she questioned as she raised an eyebrow. why was it that sometimes havin to sneak around made it that much more fun? probably because savvy often liked to see if she was able to talk her way out of trouble if she had to. it was like a challenge. “i’ve got a little experience in the area of cheer, yeah,” that was putting it lightly. sometimes it seemed like being a cheerleader was her identity. 

“uh, no,” he answered, laughing. “i’m not quite that wild.” as he said this, he wondered if she was. she was giving him the impression that she had a lot of fun in a lot of places just from the questions she asked him. “it was at a party, so no parents around. we were pretty hidden, too, so i doubt anyone even knew it was happening.” draining his cup, he turned to fully face her and leaned a shoulder against the wall.

School was back in session but Aurora found herself working an afternoon shift at the family business. The girl didn’t mind it, she enjoyed keeping busy and making some extra cash at the same time. It was mid afternoon at this point and she had been at work for a little less than an hour. Hearing the door open and the bell jingle, she smiled at her newest customer. “Oh yes, hello! Um, you can call me Rora if you want? Or Rory, I don’t really mind,” she replied. 

“cool, so i got it right,” he said. he wandered further into the store, heading toward a display of pre-packaged goods and glanced over at her. “haven’t seen you around school this week. are you at the other one?” he was mostly being polite. beck tended to hang around people with similar interests, and it was pretty easy to pick those out of the crowd. if aurora went to the same school, then he simply didn’t notice her.

the brunette knew that looking at her, most people did expect that her good girl side overpowered anything else, and once in a while it did, when the situation called for it. but the opposite was also true, and that, she thought, was just part of her ‘charm’. “gosh if i had a dollar for every time i heard that…” a smirk formed on her lips and it was hard to tell whether or not she was kidding. the girl glanced back over at the hammock, her grin growing at the fond memories it held. “sometimes you have to think outside the box. plus ya know when the urge hits it hits.” shrugging she took another sip of her drink. “a rooftop i can support that. but the rooftop of what?” there were loads of possibilities, an abandoned building, an apartment building, a school. “ah the perfect end to a winning season. and cheerleaders do it best, or so im told.” somehow, even though what she was saying was far from innocent, she could add a slight tone of innocence to it. “theyve got the endurance, flexibility, enthusiasm.”

he grinned in response to her smirk, feeling a little more comfortable (and not just because he was drinking). she certainly knew how to hook someone’s curiosity. it seemed like he was still being reeled in, the more she talked about urges and cheerleaders’ flexibility... “rooftop of my buddy’s house,” he answered slowly, still swimming in her words. this girl baked, partied, followed urges, and knew how to keep on the good side of all the parents. how could he NOT be interested? he chuckled. “yeah, that’s one way to put it. you speaking from experience or something?” his eyebrow arched, and his grin shifted into one more mischievous.

Nodding at his words, Jet watched the ball beat against the pavement as the boy came slightly closer. “Yeah…I get it. But you got to see some more old friends, yeah? I mean, you used to live in Dillon…right?” the boy asked, trying to recall Beck’s story though he had never really paid too much attention to what was happening around town to know for sure. “Was your team good? I…uh, I’m sure the basketball team is good here?” He spoke with a slight shrug, genuinely unsure if he had even heard about the basketball team in general before Beck showed up. “Did you have a good time at the party?”

“that’s true,” beck conceded. “i did, yeah. we moved to philly when i was, like, nine. my grandparents live here, so i always visited, so it’s nice to get to know people again.” he had to admit that it was nice not to completely start over again. even though he was young and adapted to a new city and school relatively easily, moving away from the best friends he had grown up with was hard. he couldn’t imagine moving somewhere entirely new in high school. “we were state champs, so, yeah... i’d say we were good. we’ll see how it is here. maybe it won’t be too bad. the party was cool. sweet place to chill. do you go there other than for the parties?” he wondered.

for the first few days of class, beck had been spending his after-school hours at his family’s shop. this wasn’t completely out of the ordinary since the teenager liked to help out with the cars and spend time working on his own. he really just felt homesick, having to start his senior year with people he either barely knew anymore or didn’t know at all. this is probably what brought him into sweet escapes at nearly the same time every day this week. he was a sucker for anything sweet when he needed some sort of comfort. the bell jingled softly as he opened the door, stepping into the shop to meet a satisfying and HEAVENLY smell of baked goods. “hey... uh... rory, is it?” he greeted almost awkwardly as he caught sight of the girl who had served him his treats all week.  @aurorapeters​

“So, how are your classes going?” Jet asked, making conversation as he leaned back against his truck. It wasn’t that he was actually interested, but he didn’t know what else to say really. “Ready to play..uh, basketball this season?” the boy asked, chuckling a little at the idea. @bbradshaws​

beck caught the basketball as it bounced back to him from the hoop and looked over to his neighbor. he unconsciously dribbled the ball as he moved closer to jet, shrugging. “it’s school, so not the best time, you know?” he answered. his eyebrow arched as the other boy started laughing to himself, and that made beck fairly confused. what was so funny about playing basketball? he knew dillon was big on football, but did that make every other sport funny? “yes...” he replied slowly, unsure how he was supposed to react to the question. “i’m always ready for basketball, but, i mean, i’ll miss my team.”

savvy couldn’t help but chuckle slightly, “oh wow, how ‘mysterious’,” the brunette lifted her fingers to add in the air quotes. “you’re a teenage male, of course its happened over the last year or two,” in fact, she would probably be more surprised and maybe even a little worried if it hadn’t happened.  “you really are curious…” sav wasn’t actually concerned about him spreading rumors, he wouldn’t really have much of a reason to do so but she would participate in the pinky promise just to be safe. “since we’re at the lake, may as well start here.” lifting her cup to her lips she thought for a few brief seconds before speaking again, “i’ve ‘escaped’ in a few places nearby. the lake itself. the lifeguard stand. a truck in the parking lot. that hammock.” the cheerleader pointed in each respective direction.

his jaw dropped in mock surprise as she pointed out where she had sneaked off to at various lake parties. “savannah, you naughty girl,” he teased, a laugh filling his voice. glancing over to where she last pointed, he shook his head. “the hammock sounds... interesting. got to admit that i wouldn’t have thought of it.” he hummed and let out a whisper of a laugh as he mulled over her confession. he honestly hadn’t pegged her for the type of girl to “escape” from parties so often. then again, he only really got to know her again at the beginning of high school during his summer stay, and everyone seemed to have changed a lot since then, himself included. “i think my most interesting was a rooftop in the suburbs...” he took a long drink as he looked back in his memory, letting a few quiet moments pass before he jerked his cup down as realization struck him. “actually, wait, there was a time at a championship party where i snuck over to the neighbor’s pool with the cheer captain. great night all around.”

Rising his eyebrows at his neighbor as the question rolled off his lips, Jet just shrugged his shoulders and shut his truck bed. “What’s there to tell?” he countered, eyes traveling over the excessive amount of kegs that lined his tail bed as he spoke. “Alcohol, the lake, girls…it’s a good time. You’re not thinking of skipping it, are you?” 

“fuck no, i’m not an idiot,” beck said with a laugh. crossing the driveway towards jet, he took a look at the contents of the truck bed. there would definitely be alcohol at this party. that didn’t surprise him, but the amount just in jet’s truck did. how big would this party be? especially if anyone else brought liquor. the parties in philly were always just whoever could fit at his buddy’s house. “everyone goes? this school rivalry thing isn’t in the way?” he had at least expected that each school would have their own party, but he didn’t know how it worked here.

beck had just gotten word of the end of summer party, and he couldn’t say he wasn’t interested. he always had a big party with his friends and teammates back home (it was still hard for him to adjust his terminology of home to mean dillon), but this one seemed to be a townwide event. he had never been here long enough in the summers to attend or hear much about them, even the year when he spent the majority of his break with his grandparents. then again, he had been younger and a good bit naive. catching site of someone his age, he called out, “hey, what can you tell me about this party happening this weekend?”
