What to do after a Car Accident/Crash
DO: If anyone is injured: Call 911
Move the vehicles off the road if it’s safe to do so (out of the way of traffic), and if the damage is minor. If the damage is severe, do not move the vehicles.

This may not have any chance in BC, but good to know about if you’ll be moving to Ontario or another province who may offer this insurance to young people in the future.

Left Turn Wrong - May 03, 2015
Left Turn Wrong – May 03, 2015
We are all human… But can this be a reminder for us all to handle the left turn with a bit more care.
Left turns are serious and should be treated with respect! At least, that’s my opinion.
Check twice before turning; for there may be something there that you just “didn’t see.”

Q: Can I back out of my driveway across double yellow lines?
There is no specific law against this. You are only required to make sure it is safe before you reverse and to avoid impeding traffic.
Please consider the much safer option of reversing into a driveway whenever possible to avoid the need to reverse out.

Q: Can a New Driver Rent a Car? (Potential Options)
Honestly it looks like slim pickings if you are a young, new driver and are looking for alternatives to purchasing a vehicle and relying on public transit. Here’s what I could find after a very quick search:
MODO Requirements
MODO
You need to be at least 19 years old with a valid BC driver’s licence.*
You also need to meet Modo’s driving standard:
N licence or better;
No at fault accidents…

Q: Turn Signals when Backing up
Q: Turn Signals when Backing up
Q: When I back up, what kind of signal do I have to use?
Same as when you are going forward! That way, the other road users around you may better understand where you plan to go.
If you are going straight, don’t signal.
If you are backing to the right, signal right.
If you are backing to the left, signal left.

Q: Passing on the Right to Turn Right
Q: Passing on the Right to Turn Right
Do not pass on the right to turn right, Accept your sometimes-given right to pass on the right!
Hi, I had 2 quick questions.
1. At an intersection where it’s only 1 lane each way, theres is often room to create 2 lanes, so the right lane can turn right. I do this purely out of convenience but I assume is in fact illegal, right?
2. I have a bad habit of resting my hands on my lap at a red light…

Q: Left Turn Traffic Light Procedure for Motorcycles
Q: Left Turn Traffic Light Procedure for Motorcycles
Question:
I took my motorcycle road test yesterday and passed. But I got called out on how I was performing left turns. My riding school drilled into us to not enter the intersection until we were sure we could proceed immediately through the turn…not to enter and wait like a car does. This is because of the vulnerable nature of motorbikes to getting hit by cross traffic not seeing you there.

Auto Crime Enforcement Month!
Auto Crime Enforcement Month!
Happy April!
Apparently it is Auto Crime Enforcement Month and we are being reminded to take steps to prevent needless loss after 2014 saw a spike in auto theft compared to the previous 10 years. Are we getting lazy?
RCMP would like us to Treat our Keys as Cash. New car technology in the last 10 years has made it difficult to steal a car without the key, and thieves know this.
We must all do our…

New driver Q’s: How can I apologize after I’ve made a driving mistake?
Question: How can I apologize after I’ve made a driving mistake?
Unless you happen to be pulling into the same parking lot (in which case you could offer to buy them a coffee!) then you can not really apologize. Just learn from the mistake, forgive yourself and move on. And, the next time someone else makes an error just simply forgive them (spread around the good driving & driver karma) instead…
