i know the daltons true height thing was years ago but since i was just there, might i offer the parc spirou heights
for some reason they made Averell a full 50cm taller than jack when the others all have a 20cm difference
Canon 1m Joe is amazing to me though
I'm unsure if you know this or not, but in both the French and Dutch versions of LTB, Blutch (and most other characters) still habitually respect the more polite second person pronouns for those higher in rank than them, which isn't very obvious with the English "you".
Chesterfield always speaks down to Blutch, using "toi/jij", whereas Blutch, no matter how little he respects Chesterfield, refers to him as "vous/u" each time (despite literally cussing him out multiple times per comic I'm sure). This is most obvious in the comic where we see their origin story entering the army for the first time, where Blutch makes the switch right after they both get their ranks. I thought that was interesting.
I do! I’ve actually read most of LTB in French as only about 20 of them are in English. Though in French Chesterfield mostly uses the formal you towards Blutch as well (seems like everyone in the army is formal? Someone who is a native speaker can speak to that over me but that seems right from what I’ve read). I haven’t actually read the backstory album in French (that’s one of the few that was in English when I started) so I never noticed that switch, I’ll have to check it out sometime haha.
Personally I think their forced formal/casual dynamic in the New York Riots album is especially funny to me. Blutch is over here using Chesterfield’s first name and the informal you around the rioters but not ONCE does Chesterfield refer to Blutch in the informal you. Just. Can’t bring himself to leave his army brain for long enough to get out of the stupid undercover situation he got them in and the formal you is a part of it.
wow, your masterposts on LTB are great! Nice to see someone on the Internet analyse the comics I grew up on. One of my favourites is the one where Blutch saves a child from getting executed. Good stuff!
Thanks haha, Blutch is such a compelling character. I could write essays if I had the time
This has been stuck in my head for DAYS now, I’m infecting everyone else.
Update: I paid for the song

was reading the Blutch masterposts do you think the canonfire also triggers his trauma
Maybe? I don’t think I’ve thought of that personally since he’s around cannons fairly often with no huge issue. Granted it’s a lot more unavoidable than situations with cave-ins considering The War, so he may just be “handling it better” for now?
Which way do you headcanon the order of Daltons' heights?
The analogue to the original Daltons method (Joe, William, Jack, Averell)
"The Daltons" cartoon theme method (Joe, Jack, Wlliam, Averell)
I don't care all that much
Ever since I've started to reread and rewatch various Lucky Luke media, I noticed that the first method shows often in comics and movies (for example, in The Lone Riders, Daisy Town and The Ballad of the Daltons).
But The Daltons 2010's influence is strong too.
Me core
it's not 100% set in stone yet but i'm gonna try to go to a BD convention in Brittany later this month, because one of the guests is JEAN-CLAUDE FOURNIER HIMSELF
so, perhaps my dream of having my Bizu book signed will come true?? finger's crossed??
Oh cool!! That’d be awesome to have a signed copy! Definitely wishing you luck on that!!
Read the Papercutz translation of Eglantine’s Secret and got a bit of a reality check lol. I always think about what they could do with her and forgot that in the actual album she’s in she kinda just does the same 3 things over and over. Like yeah she’s rambunctious, she’s willing to use force to get her way (that’s what the other kids are doing, so what if she has super strength), and she doesn’t care what others think of her! She gets into playground squabbles with other kids despite being super strong cause she’s NOT Benny. I love that about her! But yeah these things do mostly just get shown by her throwing other kids around and taunting them repeatedly.
I do genuinely hope she’s in the new series, but rereading the album was a good reminder that my image of her in my head is a LARGE part headcanon & theorizing how she COULD be done rather than the little we actually see of her. Even if she is in the series, I gotta tone my expectations down.
