As a Christian, I must recognize that the Biblical problem with the month of June in America is PRIDE
(Please read further before commenting… noticing what I’m not saying… in fact if you are waiting for me to say “it” this is the closest I’m coming to that in this post)
Paul makes clear in Galatians 6:3-4, pride is the root of all comparison.
Save Paul, nobody has articulated this better than C.S. Lewis who said in Mere Christianity: “We say that people are proud of being rich, or clever, or good-looking, but they are not. They are proud of being richer, or cleverer, or better-looking than others. If everyone else became equally rich, or clever, or good-looking there would be nothing to be proud about.
It is the comparison that makes you proud: the pleasure of being above the rest. Once the element of competition has gone, pride has gone.”
For those of us that claim to follow Christ… Pride. Should. Not. Be. Part. Of. Our. Life.
1 John 2:16 (KJV) — “…the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.”
This verse hits it in the head for the month of June… if we are to join in, let us leave pride aside.
