“Yeah–big weddings are always fun,” he said easily, nodding along. “No worries. We’ll make sure we find a place that can handle everyone comfortably.” There were so many gorgeous venues around Washington, and honestly, he was glad he’d carved out the time to come in person.
Usually, for out-of-state weddings, he stuck to video calls–consultations, walkthroughs, the whole thing through a screen. But something about the two of them had pulled him in right away. Enough that he’d booked a flight without overthinking it too much. He had overthought it later, of course–hands shaky when he told Ben, nerves buzzing under his skin–but sitting across from her now, it all felt worth it, especially since Ben had WANTED to go with him.
When she mentioned learning a song in Spanish just for him, his hand lifted to his chest before he could stop himself, a soft smile spreading across his face.
“That’s… really sweet,” he said, a little quieter. At the mention of money, he waved it off gently. “I get discounts through work, and we can absolutely figure something out together. Don’t stress about that.”
Her attempt at the name of the dance made him laugh–not unkindly, just warm and fond. He could see how much love she carried, how openly it showed. “I actually looked it up,” he grinned. “It looks like fun.”
For a brief second, he pictured his own wedding-and pushed the thought out of his mind because he wasn't going to spiral again over that.
He cleared his throat, refocusing. “Have you started looking at any food vendors yet?” Then, softer, with an easy smile, he added, “And yeah–I think that’s a great idea. Something that everyone can enjoy.”
