Hi I haven’t posted in like ten years and guess what brought me back
Some of the best writing advice I ever got was if you’re stuck on a scene or a line, the problem is actually about 10 lines back and that’s saved me from writer’s block so many times.
I feel like I need an elaborate explanation
Often times, I find myself stuck on what a character should say next or what should happen in a scene to connect A to B or so on. When this happens, I fall into the trap of writing and rewriting the same few lines over and over, and becoming more and more dissatisfied every time until I give up.
But problem is almost never actually whatever line I’m trying to write at the moment; the issue is the stuff leading up to the line. Maybe there are structural issues with the set up, maybe I wrote a bit of dialogue that was out of character leading to a discussion that doesn’t make sense, maybe I’m missing a vital piece of exposition or expositing too much. It could be a lot of things, but the important part of the advice is to look back and be willing to consider changes to something earlier in the work (even if you’re really attached to like a piece of dialogue or a particular sentence or something) instead of trying to find a way to force out a scene that’s not working.
That makes a lot of sense. Thanks for explaining!

Work Song by Hozier except it’s being sung by what sounds like a few fellow laborers a ways up the coal mine that you’re working in. It’s dark and cold and grueling work, but whoever the singer is, he has a sweet story and a sweeter voice, and morale seems to pick up with each beat.
By the end the entire mine has begun mining in harmony, but as you look for the source of the song… no one claims the credit.
i’ve heard a lot of people talk about the EXCELLENT potential of a high intelligence/low wisdom dnd character (i.e. an brilliant academic who keeps setting their dumb ass on fire because they always store their wand in their back pocket)
but i’ve not seen any posts about the equal potential of a high wis/low int character (i.e. someone incredibly perceptive who gives deep and meaningful reassurance to their friends and then 5 minutes later asks what a can opener is)

I can’t realistically see Book!Gendry being legitimized and inheriting Storm’s End. Even disregarding the fact that Edric and Mya exist in the book or that Gendry wasn’t ever claimed by Robert. Just solely looking at his personality, it doesn’t seem viable for him.
Now this is not me saying Gendry wouldn’t be a good Lord, or that he’s not smart enough, or that the Stormlands wouldn’t be better off with him. He’d be a wonderful Lord and he actually gives a shit about people. But his personality is not compatible with a Lordship.
Book!Gendry is a Chaotic-Good Borderline-Anarchist. He mocks highborns, is visibly disgusted by “Lords and Ladies”, calls King Robert a “fat drunk and lech” and doesn’t care who hears, said he would beat his father bloody if he ever met him, threw shit at the other apprentices because they called him “bull-headed”, isn’t afraid to tell the King’s hand to get fucked when he wants to buy his bull helm, and joined a Band of Outlaws the first chance he got.
I personally cannot see this type of person agreeing to accept a Lordship or Kingdom, and if he did take it I could see him using it to try and overthrow the regime or something. I really doubt Book!Gendry’s story will end the same as Show!Gendry.
Thats my boy 😂
That being said, book!Gendry is ABSOLUTELY Arya’s jam as a partner.
Gendry: *rolls in from a fistfight he instigated after shit talk*
Arya: That one. I want that one.

Last year (I think? Time has lost all meaning) @historiograph sent me the Pacific Arcana - a Pacific Rim themed tarot deck. I had missed out on it when it was being produced, and had been desperately scouring the web looking for anyone willing to part with theirs, so this was a total surprise and a delight.
What I love about it the most is how, since I love the movie and am so familiar with the canon and universe, interpreting the artwork on the cards feels like second nature. It adheres loosely to the RWS system, but of course has its own interpretation. (Also instead of a King the deck has a Prince card and the Queen is the highest ranking, love that!)
I just wanted to share because the spread above is what I pulled for myself yesterday, and I was filled with such a sense of joy that I’m on the right track, and appreciate the warnings given, as well. So thank you again, @historiograph, for giving me the chance to own a deck that means so much to me and is so useful. I owe you forever.
