Final Thoughts: I like this movie more than I expected to and even more than I liked the first one. I’m a sucker for a movie where someone stands up for the helpless victims and gets the bad guys. It’s always a plus if there are kids and old people in it too... this one has both.

#1 Complaint: SPOILER ALERT!!!! - Don’t know why all the gang members just watched Denzel enter their hideout, take the kid, and leave and presumably just let it go and didn’t retaliate at all.
Re-watchable?: Probably not
Final Thoughts: Rare instance that the sequel is better than the original. Great action movie. Goes down smooth despite it’s 2 hour run time.
The Rider
The Rider- After suffering a near fatal head injury, a young cowboy undertakes a search for new identity and what it means to be a man in the heartland of America.

Final Thoughts: I was super impressed by the story, the people in it, and the restraint of the director to let it be what it really was to give us a window into this world. Maybe because I have an autistic daughter, the sister stole my heart completely and I love that she played herself and her relationship with her brother.

Re-watchable?: Yes. I know I’m gonna watch it again.
Final Thoughts: This is one of those rare gems I find that I just absolutely fall in love with. It’s this years Sing Street. I have no interest in rodeos, horses, or this lifestyle at all. Yet I was enthralled with everything on the screen. The director Chloé Zhao knocked this out of the park. Visually it’s breathtaking, and the story is amazing and she just lets it breathe. If Hollywood gets a hold of this movie, it would have been a complete mess. No actors, just the real people but unlike Clint Eastwood’s unsuccessful 15:17 to Paris, this one triumphs. Hands down my favorite movie of the year thus far.

Hotel Artemis - Set in riot-torn, near-future Los Angeles, 'Hotel Artemis' follows the Nurse, who runs a secret, members-only emergency room for criminals.

Rating: B Favorite Character: Everest (Dave Bautista) Least Favorite Character: Honolulu (Brian Tyree Henry) Favorite Quote/Line: “When I walk away, don’t jump on my back, okay?” - Everest #1 Complaint: Yeah the lines seemed like they were made up as they went along, but my main complaint is (SPOILER ALERT) that I wanted to the Nurse to team back up together at the end. Re-watchable?: Probably not. Final Thoughts: I loved this idea and I love how they executed the look and feel of the hotel. The used and aged feel of the dilapidated hotel was really masterfully done. In that way it reminded me of Firefly. Some of the characters were really good but the plot and dialogue fell too short to pull this movie up to ‘A’ status.

#1 Complaint: This movie is what it is and it doesn’t really have any points I would want to change. Maybe just more of the really interesting aspects of the rules and amendments they made to their game of tag. Maybe more flashbacks or those kind of things that made it really interesting to watch.
Re-watchable?: Yes
Final Thoughts: This movie was really fun. Really entertaining. Not really deep or profound but for what it was they did a really good job. Great casting and character development. All in all they took a good idea and ran with it to make a really fun experience for movie goers.

Final Thoughts: Very fun. I went in with pretty low expectations so it was definitely better than I thought it would be. Could have done with a few less cuss words but overall it was a comedy so it was supposed to make me laugh and it did so mission accomplished.
Ocean’s 8
Ocean’s 8 - Debbie Ocean gathers an all-female crew to attempt an impossible heist at New York City's yearly Met Gala.

Favorite Quote/Line: Debbie Ocean: These are all Russians. Lou: They’re hackers. Debbie Ocean: Are there no hackers who aren’t Russians? Lou: No. There’s barely any Russians who aren’t hackers.
#1 Complaint: There was a lot of missed opportunities in this movie for character or plot development. Things such as referring to the names of the different cons or Linus tailing them the whole time or having to call in Roman, or a lot of the little details that make the Ocean’s movies so epic.
Re-watchable?: Probably
Final Thoughts: All in all it was a really fun movie. I loved the costumes and makeup and hair. I really like how all the girls had really different personalities, I just wish we could have seen more of those different personalities come into play. Now let’s do a sequel where the cast from Ocean’s 11 teams up with this cast on an epic con. Anne Hathaway’s acting and facial expressions stole the show.

#1 Complaint: MINOR SPOILER- If a place is on lock down because 150 million dollar necklace is missing, you probably wouldn’t be able to push a food cart right out into the loading dock and drive away.
Re-watchable?: If you’re watching a marathon of the Ocean’s movies...maybe?
Final Thoughts: It’s a perfectly fine movie. Not bad, not great. The acting falls a little flat. It’s just sort of paint by numbers. Anne Hathaway absolutely steals the movie though. She is acting circles around a lot of heavy hitting actresses. There are some fun cameos. What really is noticeably lacking is the writing. The dialogue is not even close to as witty or snapping as the first 3 movies. The chemistry seemed forced between Sandra Bullock and Cate Blanchett. Gary Ross did an adequate job of direction but he’s gonna be compared to what Soderbergh did in the first 3 which isn’t fair since Soderbergh is one of the best visual directors we’ve had. Overall it’s fine but man it could have been so much better.
Solo: A Star Wars Story
Solo: A Star Wars Story - During an adventure into the criminal underworld, Han Solo meets his future copilot Chewbacca and encounters Lando Calrissian years before joining the Rebellion.

#1 Complaint: The first 10 minutes. I thought they were gonna ruin my childhood...again, but they redeemed themselves.
Re-watchable?: Yeah
Final Thoughts: Full of fun and nostalgia. The actors did a really good job of bringing themselves to the parts as opposed to trying to do a bad karaoke version of iconic figures. It did a great job of bringing in the expanded universe into the movie without treading on sacred ground.

#1 Complaint: I would have cut that opening out completely and started the movie with Han already in the Empire and fighting on Mimban.
Re-watchable?: Yes. (Seen it 3 times already)
Final Thoughts: I really don’t know why this is getting so much hate. It’s very good. Alden Ehrenreich becomes more and more like the Han we all know and love as the movie progresses. I had heard going in that Donald Glover dominates every scene he’s in but I thought Alden is the winner here. This has so many middle fingers pointed at Lucas in it. The expanded universe is beloved for a reason and for Mr. Lucas to shy away from it is slowly corrected here. Not everything mind you. This movie definitely has it’s flaws, but they are easily overlooked for how fun this is.
Avengers: Infinity War

#1 Complaint: A few of the CGI scenes were pretty bad. But my least favorite thing was not seeing if Shuri (one of my favorites) is alive or not.
Re-watchable?: Yes
Final Thoughts: Really interesting, and entertaining. Much better than Civil War. I loved having more of the Marvel universe all together. Thanos was an amazing bad guy, and many of the characters like Thor and Gamora got even better as this story line progressed.

#1 Complaint: Like all superhero movies, my #1 complaint is that good actors and actresses get roped into multi movie deals so they’ve been wasting away making comic book movies when they could have been making GOOD movies. How many years have we lost from Robert Downey Jr? Who knows what projects that Mark Ruffalo has had to turn down because of scheduling conflicts. I need these to be wrapped up.
Re-watchable?: Sure.
Final Thoughts: This is one of the better MCU movies. I put it on the upper part. I will say that the further away I’ve gotten from this movie, I like it more. However some of the best dialogue from this flat out stolen from Dr. Who. You’re better than that Infinity War.
Isle of Dogs

#1 Complaint: Squeeze in some more scenes of them making sushi. That was awesome.
Re-watchable?: Yes.
Final Thoughts: Wes Anderson is pretty much always a great choice. This might make it into my top 3 right behind Darjeeling Limited and The Royal Tenenbaums. I loved it. Visually unbelievable, fantastic script, characters, and voices. The soundtrack is also oh so good. My very favorite is that you can’t always understand what the humans are saying. So good.

Final Thoughts: I know Wes Anderson is not everyone’s cup of tea. But those in the know, will love this, his latest effort. It’s so fantastic, so witty, so clever, so perfectly paced, so beautiful. It absolutely is the best film I’ve seen this year with “A Quiet Place” right behind it. Great job Wes. I can’t wait until your next one.

Final Thoughts: It was so good and so powerful. The theater was absolutely silent because everyone was so captivated. So much to the point that someone had accidentally knocked over their purse and every person collectively gasped because we thought the creatures would come for us. So much restraint, so much originality, great acting. Really, really great film.

Final Thoughts: This is a near perfect movie. In a day and age where nothing is original, this one was. It was like no other movie going experience I’ve had. The sound and/or lack of sound played a huge part in not just the movie but also in the theater. It was almost like no one wanted to make a sound in the theater just in case one of the monsters heard us. John Krasinski knocked this out of the park. Emily Blunt deserves serious consideration come Oscar time. The kids were also fantastic. Millicent Simmonds was incredible. I almost picked her as my favorite character. I’ve not stopped thinking about this movie since I saw it. By far the best new release movie I’ve seen in a long time.

Final Thoughts: It’s a perfectly fun movie. Not great, not terrible. I’ve been missing Dominic West ever since his McNulty days. There were times that this movie was edging on being really good. I felt like I was playing the videogame. Then it would throw in some pretty bad CGI or remind you what the plot was and it would go right back to being a fair to midland movie.
Death Wish

Final Thoughts: Didn’t have high expectations going in which usually sets up for being pleasantly surprised. And I was. Very satisfying, fun movie. It accomplished what it set out to, which is all you can ask out of a movie. I saw the original when I was a kid and never saw any sequels because of how bad the original was. I’m glad I saw this one. Not a lot of meat here, just a good little snack. You can skip this in the theater though, it’s a rental type for sure. If I didn’t have movie pass, I would never have seen it.
