Being open about being trans was never my choice as an author, as I was publicly outed multiple times before I could even come out myself because of this type of culture.

I'm genuinely happy people want to support my books and feel more comfortable reading them because I am trans, but I wish we supported queer books we resonate with instead of checking the author's identity. I was left with the hard decision of having to continue after being outed or to leave publishing and it was difficult. 

It feels like we are putting fiction over real author's mental health sometimes and I wish it weren't so. But I'm glad that some good things came out of this at least, and that it is easier to connect with readers now as an openly out author. 😭🖤
