An Anomaly's Journey
Aka Magister Beahreth's whole deal... or something. Updated (Crown of Ashes)
It's about time for a rewrite! If you're reading this, congratulations, this is obscure and confidential information about Magister Beahreth and this update wasn't notified to anyone whatshoever... she'll kill me later.
╰─────────── ✧ ──────────────╮
Beahreth's gist and character is based around the fact that you can see and interact sometimes with other "Merlins" in game (Thing I still find hilarious.) Every magister relives the journey in their own timeline, but every incarnation is wildly different from eachother, and the most powerful ones end up breaking the lines between a timeline and the other, consciously or otherwise.
Where do they all blur together? In Beahreth's... much to her dismay.
╰─────────── ✧ ──────────────╮
Where does her story begin?
Raised by the former Arcane council after the previous Merlin brought her into Avalon (hc'd here to have been Merlin the First), she was assigned to be the next first seat as a mere child. However, this didn't affect her in any negative way and she in fact embraced the title with determination.
【Yet to write: Former Arcane council, Lorraine, Dethanial.】
One of her caretakers attempted to give her an identity beyond the mantle, naming the child "Beahreth"... it didn't quite stick, at least not outwardly, just somewhere deep in her mind.
Ghosts pass by every now and then, but not for enough time for her to see them clearly.
Grew up and was sent to the lyceum to both get a formal education and get to know the peers she was supposed to protect. And though her methods were a little unorthodox, she was still a prodigy and was often granted a few privileges, like getting to skip classes and experiment. It's here where she meets a rather odd classmate: Cyran, who always seemed to pay a little too much attention to her.
A thing they both seemed to have in common was curiosity for hypogean magic and what it entailed, but this would only develop further long after their fallout during the starshower spell scene. Petty little bastard...
【Yet to write: School years.】
Her last act as Student Council President was forcing the School Board to accept novice mages from lower status, allowing many more students to enroll in the Serene Lyceum without complications alongside nobles (That kind of backpedaled as years without her went by but oh well).
After graduation, "Merlin" spent a few years as a wandering mage, learning from Esperia and it's residents. She lived quite a few adventures in this timeframe such as:
Finding Giga and taming her enough to build that whole house over
Wherever it was where she found the relics now stored in the Mystical House
Meeting Contess
Meeting Hogan (Previous to the war)
Stumbling upon Celestials (The Twins, mostly)
Seeing the title pass from the previous Gawain to the current one.
【Yet to write: More of these.】
"Merlin" goes back to the Lyceum, half in hopes to find mages good enough for the next generations of the Arcane Council, half in hopes to settle down a little. She accepts Leymar's offer to stay as a teacher and settle in the tower near the Lyceum.
She becomes a stern teacher, strict, a little intimidating, but still speaking about the wonders of magic like a child would at times. Her classes were extra difficult to pass, but not impossible, and many students found that extremely irritating, including the one who would become her apprentice later on: a young pyromancer from the empire's Capital.

Where things start going wrong.
One of her first mistakes is finding Dura in her current state (The statue in Dura's trials). One way or another she finds that her time on Esperia is finite and might be even shorter than what she initially hoped. Trapped within a crushing existencial dread, she casts this sort of "Permanence Spell" on herself, that was supposed to keep her mind and soul intact across the next "Eras" of Merlin.
In her time teaching at the Lyceum, one of "Merlin"s former caretakers succumbed to hypogean corruption. She had to banish him personally, sealing him somewhere far from Avalon. Her curiosity for dark magic came back stronger than before, now with one of the goals being finding out how to revert said corruption. Emphasys on "one of the goals"
This is where she finds Cyran again, now a respected member of the Empire's Court, but not the Chief Court Mage just yet.
After some talking and negotiation, now as adults rather than impulsive students, they find common ground and start researching this dark, ancient magic together, studying its effects and trapping hypofiends in memory stars. There's a timeframe where they both wholeheartedly believe the other is finally on their side (they were both wrong). The War starts.
It's subtle and slow at first, Merlin is forced to pause her Lyceum duties to fend off hypofiends in small towns, a little too often for her own liking. Rare sightings become more frequent and she's left without enough time to be a teacher.
Somewhere during her last year as a teacher, already missing dates and deadlines for this bigger emergency, she and Cyran take this oportunity to push their research further. If more hypofiends are appearing then a source had to exist, and so they follow one of the trails back to an open rift. This is where a disagreement turns into an ugly fight, she wants to seal the rift while Cyran wants to harness it's power like how he had planned from the beggining.
Her sealing spell is tampered with by him and it turns into something like a ritual instead that hurts her deeply in the process, also messing with the spell she had cast on her mind. The fight ends with Cyran wielding a newfound power contained in the gem of his staff, while "Merlin" drags herself out of the cave where the rift sat in, unable to fully seal it. The war worsens significantly after this encounter.
Her mind starts to deteriorate at a painfully slow rate, slow enough to assist in the war by General Hogan's side.

The war worsened to a point where waves and waves of dark forces neared Avalon, and thus, the seed of life. A weakened Merlin had no other choice but to make the biggest sacrifice to push the darkness back into the pit where it belonged, but this drained was strenght she had left. And inside the Radiant Spire, she fell into what outsiders called "a deep slumber"
What happens after is a bit of a mistery, but what comes out of the Spire is not exactly "Merlin"... it's Beahreth.

Some Funky Fun facts! :
She looks a tad younger than she looked back at the Lyceum, this because starting over as a clueless blank sheet rather than an experienced mage.
She usually sees the "ghosts" in the corner of her eye, but if she catches a good glimpse of them some funny things happen: - Her eyes turn into the "Merlin" symbol for a moment (yanno, the one when you click around) and her head hurts a little depending on how powerful the Merlin is, or well, how strong is their rapture in time.
Her magic is blue with some hints of the usual warm, Dura-given gold. It's also colder, weaker, but there's a hint of the distinct merlin warmth somewhere.
Her name is honestly a mouthful and people often just shorten it to "Beah".
She's usually very playful, sometimes a tad cynical, enjoys annoying others, but overtime this behavior settles down as the journey grows serious... she'll still throw a jab or two at you though.
Despite her attitude, she's good with kids and enjoys teaching. A bit from her past that stuck.
I call whatever's broken her "magic battery", and it's perpetually stuck at like 30%, 45% in a good day.
Her body is always a tad cold and tired.
Can't fish. This girl is literally unable to fish, fish just bolt away from her if she touches water.
Her "Era" as Merlin was supposed to end with the second divine war, but while in the spire, Dura granted her a second oportunity which is the Bea we know today (typing it as a fun fact so i dont forget lol)
╰─────────── ✧ ──────────────╮
TLDR; Bea's whole deal started as an excuse to have her canonically annoy other merlins and turned into religious trauma existencial dread with a hint of betrayal here and there, she's fine tho.
